The East is ours for the taking next year.
Miami while good, is a not a serious threat I don't see how they match up with Kyrie or KD. They are also are going to save cap space for GA.
The Bucks will be in awkward position next season with GA a FA next off-season and Bud a failure in the POs
Toronto will be going all in on GA but they have a ton of FAs (Lowry, GVV, Gasol, Ibaka)
I think our biggest threat will be Boston TBH. Brown and Tatum will continue to grow and they should be able to make the tweaks needed to be a perennial threat in the East.

It's the West that scares me.
LAL - LBJ and AD
LAC - KL and assume PG with a new coach
DEN - Jokic and Murray are tough match-ups
DAL - healthy KP and Doncic will be a tough duo for years to come.
GSW - Is going to be a force next year with everyone back and their picks to play with
Utah - is such a good team, but the West is so good there is a slight chance they don't even make the PO if they have an injury or two

Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season

Uhh... Jason McIntyre must have a secret account on here. So, he predicted Kyrie and KD or Kyrie and Jimmy Butler to the Nets. Now, this.

Paul George was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a massive blockbuster deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. After the move was made, the Clippers were immediately dubbed NBA Finals contenders. Now that they have ended their season in disappointing fashion, it appears that George could be on the move again to the Brooklyn Nets.

That comes from a report put out by Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports, who stated that George could be traded this offseason. He also made it clear that the Nets are the top potential landing spot for George.

“I’ve heard, at the exit interviews, Paul George didn’t get ‘rave reviews’ from his teammates. My source would not be shocked if Paul George was shipped out of town and the potential landing is the Brooklyn Nets.”

My body is ready.

Seriously, I understand the concern over bringing another moody star to Brooklyn. But you can't create a better fit for our needs in a lab!

Guys like Aaron Gordon, Jrue Holiday, Victor Oladipo and others have upside and downside. George has it all. He has the size to be our primary defender against any star 1 through 4, is a sniper from 3, and has impeccable motion off-ball. I know he's only guaranteed for a year, but chances to add a 3rd top-15 guy like Paul don't come along often.

I'm alright with moving anything not nailed down for PG. If we can ship Taurean in the process so that we can keep one of Dinwiddie or Levert, even better. But whatever it takes, I'm in.

my only caveat: do not mortgage the future. Two future 1sts maximum. If they demand more, they can keep him. Nothing is certain with or without PG, and there is an opportunity cost to everything.

Honestly, after seeing the FaceTime video with Dennis Schroeder. I am not very high on Paul George as a winner in this league.

The way he kept laughing at the Clippers being “stacked” and losing in the 2nd round despite being the reason they lost and fired Rivers doesn’t sit very well with me. I rarely judge guys like that but even Schroeder was smirking like “is this dude for real?”

If George wants to join the Nets and kill that Playoff P stigma, he needs to grow up. Straight up.

Fair, very fair. However in a tertiary role, I feel that his antics would mean less. He's clearly not a leader, which is fine because we have defined leaders already.

Just so long as he doesn't go sleeping with his teammate's fiancee again, we'll be good.

Or dating Steve Nash or JV’s relatives...

Fun Fact: PG dated Doc Rivers daughter...then cheated on her with a stripper that he disowned, then married because she was pregnant all before being traded to the Thunder.

So, technically he smashed Doc’s daughter, broke her heart and got him fired.

yep. as constructed right now, we have maximum depth, two superstars, and two solid bigs that can pass and finish. I'm not in favor of trading anyone unless it's for frickin Giannis or someone on that category tier.

It's only game 1, but The Lakers size absolutely punished Miami. Tyler Herro is a -45 in the plus minus.

Right now the rebounding disparity is 48-29 LA with 6 mins left in the 4th. I don't want to hear anything about small ball or big man not mattering.

There is no denying the fact that size mattered. Joker knocked Clippers out, Lakers killing Heat.

Proof that it's NOT a small world after all.

Gone are the days where winning teams trotted out a lumbering ox in the middle (sorry, Jason Collins). The modern NBA requires at least a modicum of passing, shooting and ball-handling at all positions, if you're going to advance in the postseason.

But if you have all those things AND you have size, you still can dominate the team that doesn't.

Hey, on minimum deals, I'd be all for it! 8-)

Seriously though, I'm not for reunions just for their own sake. It has to make on- and off-court sense. I'm not sure how close K&K are with PG, but the 3 of them make a ton of sense together on paper.

Pretty much. Centers and PF becoming skill position more than ever. We going to need Allen improve significantly soon, hook shots, elbow jumpers and passing going to be a must. He'll become an all star with all the attention we'll get from media.

the beauty of it is that those teams will kill each other before we even have to see one of them.

Absolutely not. I watched the Clippers and Paul George was hot garbage for most of the playoffs. I'll stick with LeVert and Spencer.

Paul George **** ed Roy Hibbert's wife when he was on the Pacers. He is not a good teammate, and it was clear that he and Leonard had zero chemistry between them.

We don't need Paul George. I remain convinced that our defensive issues can be fixed through the MLE and draft and we can keep pur depth.

We need to see this team play before blowing it up. We can always make major trades mid season.

The East is really looking wide open last year.

-Toronto is basically done
-Philly is a joke
-Miami had a good run but they don't make the Finals without the bubble

Boston is good but Brown/Tatum are just not as good as KD/Kyrie.

The biggest threat to me is still Milwaukee. We have to hope Giannis continues to underperform in the playoffs. If he figures it out he will be a tough matchup.

I would take Paul George in a heartbeat. He'd a perfect third option, who is an excellent fit defensively. One of the best off ball, high volume 3pt shooters in the league, and a high level defender with ability to switch with ease. The guy's value is at an all time low, but people getting caught in recency bias, he's still a top 15-20 player in the league. He's unreliable as a 1st or 2nd option, but as a 3rd option, you're taking a lot of pressure and offensive responsibility off him, and imo, it's the ideal role for him to excel in.

With that being said, Clippers are not going to trade him, and if they do, they especially won't trade him here. The only way it can happen imo, is if its a 3-4 team deal where Clippers are getting a legit star like Beal back.

A whole lot of assumptions there. Our team has just as many question marks if not more. Can KD come back and play at superstar level, returning from the worst injury in sports? Can Kyrie actually stay healthy for most of reg season and playoffs? Can Nash handle high pressure as a rookie head coach? If we don't make any major trades, how are Levert and Dinwiddie going to fit in? How can we be a good defensive team without good perimeter defenders? What will our locker room chemistry be like if we go through a rough stretch?

"Toronto is basically done", and "Philly is a joke", and a good amount of NBA fans out there think that we're a trainwreck waiting to happen. It goes both ways.

I'd prefer to roll with what we have and see where things are by the trade deadline.

Bringing in Kyrie, Nash and KD is introducing three major X factors as it is, plus there's the body of newcomers to next season's roster and coaching staff. That's a lot. IMO it's going to take time just to get all that meshed, and adding a PG13 rental doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Not even mentioning his character issues, which don't seem to fit this franchise very well.

By midseason, Marks should have a much better idea what's working, what's not, and where we might need help. I think that natural process should be allowed to play out.

Also, something Nets fans seemingly don't want to acknowledge at all is that our top three players all have significant injury concerns, and there's a chance that will directly impact our needs coming up to the deadline. Another argument for hanging on to available assets for the time being.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
