I mean, I don't want to keep going on this, because it's really not all important, but his stats are in 23 minutes. Give him 36 minutes, he's averaging a double/double. Along with the potential to lead the league in blocks. Even with just 23 minutes, his numbers are nearly identical to Al Horford, who was an All-Star. That, to me, is not average.

Anyway, I'm starting to think Favors won't be traded.

In all fairness, let's just agree to disagree, because I don't see an ending to this.

Hmmm, someone that actually knows what he's talking about. What do you know.

Btw, comparing Pritcahrd to arguably the best GM in the league in Presti pretty much speaks for itself.

We compared him because you were calling Pritch a genius and asked us to find a better GM within the last 5 seasons, and we found you one that's years ahead of Pritch.

I can't buy a same day off as my friend so I probably won't be catching it until it comes out on Blu-Ray. Gotta love Pixar...

Maybe perrenial All Star was a bit of a reach, but I see an 18/6/3/1/1 guy that plays lock down defense, scores on stellar efficiency and is lethal with the money ball.

Wow, can't you just take a day off to catch it?

Presti and Pritchard are Magic and Larry of there fields. There both great. Can't blame Oden on Kevin. Every signle gm and 90% of fans would have taken Oden.

You still take that hit on your resume. of course its on him with a pick that high. Do I understand why he did that with Aldridge and Roy on board and a bigger need at the 5? Of course. But no one cuts the Blazers slack in 1984 for taking elite college center Sam Bowie over MJ. Or Dumars for taking Darko when most GM's loved him. They were losing Okur that summer and had Tay and Rip set up for the next few years. Why take Melo, or Wade? Stll...hits that resume when its that high and you are deciding between the best. its not a middle of the round pick. You have more pressure to get it right...and it has to be factored in.

Now I stil think he did a great job there...and respect the hell out of him. But...yes...you do have to pin it on him.

Because it's possible this is getting buried in all the Free-Agency hoopla:

Meanwhile, back at the gym, they're getting excited about the player Johnson calls "the manchild". Dave D'Alessandro quotes one insider: "He competes like hell, and he’s even shooting it well right now. He’s got a chance to be really, really good." Trade bait, a chip? "Not the way this kid has played the first three days."

http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2010/0 ... cy_da.html

Near the end of Friday’s practice, Derrick Favors received a pass along the left baseline, posted up, and spun right, drawing a foul as his layup attempt rolled off the rim. He hit the first free throw, missed the second and Avery Johnson saw the opportunity for a teaching moment.

The Nets coach sent Favors back to the charity stripe, but ordered everyone else to the baseline, leaving his rookie all alone between the white lines, ever more aware that each miss meant a there-and-back sprint for a group already run ragged. With Terrence Williams offering encouragement before checking Favors the ball, the 18-year-old calmly swished one, then another. Practice ended, and a test, perhaps, was passed.

Awesome to hear them rave about Favors.

We have more talent than the Bulls now. Once we clesr to max 33 and they clear? We have MUCH better talent as that we will DUMP THE HUMP and they have to lose one of their top 3 to get there.

Early look at Damion James...if anyone wants to know what type of player he is, I think all Nets fans should be happy after reading this article.

I didnt scout him before the draft...but the video I have seem of him since? Honstly? I see a guy who is a lot more Marion than Wes Johnson is. That might be a stretch for a low pick...but I dont think he should have gone that low. I am optimistic we got a steal.

We had a lot of back and forth about the Nets...and should they have bought a second rounder. Sounds like they got two guys the had interest in without buying the picks.

Z-Men Join the Nets

Brian Zoubek and Ben Uzoh arrived quietly this week. Without notice, the Nets announced that they had been signed to contracts. We like both signings for a lot of reasons.

Zoubek was, on a minute by minute basis, the best offensive rebounder in the NCAA last season, averaging 7.7 offensive rebounds per 40 minutes. His 16.6 overall rebounds were good for third. It's an axiom among NBA scouts that rebounding is the skill set that transfers most easily from college to the pros. Zoubek has had the added advantage of having played for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke. He's also a winner. Before winning the NCAA championship at Duke, he won three NJSIAA championships at Haddonfield High School. In fact, his teams went 110-10. In 2006, he was the State Player of the Year...and could become the 13th and quite possibly the last Jersey native on a Jersey team. Here's an interview and some highlights.

Uzoh hasn't gotten any attention this week. After all, he's not from Jersey. He's from Texas, San Antonio to be precise. He is, as Popeye Jones notes, a big point guard: 6'4" in sneakers, with a 6'9" wingspan and is a muscular 200 pounds. He's athletic and explosive if not a great distributor. He plays good defense. His draft prospects always point to his steadiness, his consistency and his defensive ability. He was brought in twice for workouts by the hometown Spurs and Kings. Here's an interview and some highlights.

Another reason we like the signings is because of what they represent: a willingness to spend money, even if minimal amounts, to get things done. Not something we saw a lot of in the Ratner Era. "We had both guys targeted in the late second and we were going to buy a pick to draft either one but got lucky when they went undrafted," says a Nets insider. When other teams approached both of them, the Nets decided to give them an incentive to sign with New Jersey. "Both guys have partial salary protection in their contract." No one is saying how much, but generally teams will provide a five-figure guarantee on the $473,604 rookie minimum.
They still have to make the team of course and historically undrafted players signed to partially guaranteed deals don't make it. The biggest partial guarantee we've seen dropped on an undrafted player was the $200,000 Isiah Thomas gave to Patrick Ewing Jr. In spite of that investment and and his name, Ewing Jr. didn't make the Knicks.

If we're shopping backup point guards, I would prefer we give Boki an audition instead of a raw unproven prospect.

Boki had some real talent, and was showing steady improvement last time he was in a Nets uniform.

Just my opinion.
