Re: The Official Allen Crabbe Thread
I wonder whether Kenny may consider bringing Crabbe off the bench since the current starting 5 has done so well in the 3 pre-season game....or is it even possible to bring him off the bench with his contract + the fact that he probably removed his kicker in exchange of a starting spot in Brooklyn.
Do you install Crabbe in the starting 5?...and if so, who do you remove between Lin, Carroll or RHJ?....I think DLo and Mozgov are complete lock to start.

Re: The Official Allen Crabbe Thread
Crabbe definitely surprised me a bit last night. Looked quick and alright defensively, and love the fact that he's got a quick trigger with the 3 ball. Not sure if he or DMC should be starting. Too early to make the call.
I wouldn't mind if Kenny gave DMC the last preseason game off to rest and let Crabbe and Levert get some more burn

Re: The Official Allen Crabbe Thread
Are we assuming RHJ is the starting PF?
If so, then maybe Crabbe at SF as a starter seems right unless we go DMC n RHJ both as starters then Crabbe's offense off the bench....
well damn, i think there's an argument for either way:
Crabbe - RHJ........... DMC - Booker off bench
DMC - RHJ............... Crabbe - Booker off bench

Crabbe is a long term piece. Seems like they are leaning towards a Crabbe/LeVert/Acy/Booker combo off the bench.

I personally like Crabbe paired with Booker more as there's more balance of experience this way. DMC/RHJ (A vet and a younger guy) and Crabbe/Booker (Younger guy with vet). If Atkinson sees DMC and Crabbe being roughly similar in quality of play, I suspect he'll give DMC the nod.

KP got shut down again by Rondae. He's 100% starting.

I think Rondae's starting too.
But the difference between "starters" and "bench" is going to mean less on this team because of KA's plan to have either Lin or Russell on the floor at all times, and how many good (and similar level) rotation players Nets have.
KA's plan is actually kind of quietly revolutionary.
Lin and Russell will each play about 18 minutes without the other (if we assume they are both playing about 30 minutes as seems likely).

Re: The Official Allen Crabbe Thread
I got the impression from AC’s postgame comments that he’s aware he won’t start but he’s excited about the amount of freedom he will get.
I think we’ve got a set starting lineup. Plus, our level of effort will require alternate nights off for Carroll.

yeah, Carroll is going to have rest days so Crabbe will get his chances to start.

i cant see him starting over russell, rhj, or DMC. i think he comes off the bench. on games when he is hot he may finish games though.
right now the DMC/RHJ combo is the best thing we have going for us. we severely lacked 2 way players.

Re: The Official Allen Crabbe Thread
Pretty sure Crabbe will start or will eventually get the starting spot. To me, it makes sense to drop Carroll to the bench unit as the backup 3 and have Levert as the backup SG instead of Levert playing at 3. Or RHJ can be dropped for Carroll to play starting 4, but I like RHJ as a starting PF more with his rebounding, defense, and hustle.
The starting lineup as it is, I do like it (especially the team chemistry/fit between Carroll and RHJ) but ultimately, Crabbe has to play enough minutes in the rotation (unless he plays badly), and he's not being paid $18 million to be a bench player here. He's the best shooter on the roster and still has decent potential left. Carroll can be productive for us, but he's 31 and the veteran in the roster. His playing time and development isn't as important as Crabbe's.
Lin/Dinwiddie
Russell/Levert
Crabbe/Carroll
RHJ/Acy
Mozgov/Booker
It'll be tough for Joe Harris and Kilpatrick to get minutes in this rotation unless injuries happen. Kenny Atkinson will have a tough job keeping all these guys happy because a decent amount of them won't get enough minutes.

I agree here..Crabbe has to start since he's an elite shooter which forces team to game plan for...so it's between probably RHJ and DMC since Kenny seems to be locked on starting 2 PG in the back-court to quicken the pace.

Re: The Official Allen Crabbe Thread
DMC and RHJ are building too much cohesion defensively throughout these past three games to now throw in Crabbe at the start of the season.

Agreed. Crabbe and DMC will both get 20+ minutes. I think Dlo and Lin will be the only guys pushing 30mpg, everyone else will be between 20 and 26.

Forget the shooting. His length and athleticism, especially his quickness, is a lot better. Now add in the shooting and it's easy to see what the Nets saw in the first place. He has prime-Korver potential.
Did he get overpaid? In all likelihood yes. He is probably not $75M better than Harris. But Portland absorbing 25% of that along with Nicholson makes it much better to get him a year later than expected.
Despite a great shooting night in his first preseason action I still stand by that there is no much that seperates him from joe harris. I can see why those he havent seen much of crabbe would feel otherwised based on last night. but i saw large portions/full games of about 30-40 games for the blazers last year, specifically to watch crabbe.
If he can maintain 42-45% from three on increased volume, that will go a long way. We will have to see on that. he looked engaged on D, we will need to see if that continues over 25+ minutes 82 games and not vs. the knicks in preseason.
Harris shot the ball pretty well this preseason himself.
I dont think anyone can say Crabbe is worth 17 million more then harris. but thats not my point. i dont think he is worth twice what harris makes let alone 10 times.
That said, im not goign to flood the game threads or here with that as my issue is not with crabbe it is with marks. i love crabbe as a fit on this team. i just dont like him being our highest paid player who is being paid like an all star and eating up a huge chunk of our cap space to be here. and i also felt like we should have gotten a first rounder for taking that contract off of portlans hands and bailing them out like we did.
but im all in on supporting crabbe while he is here.
If Marks offers the contract that you say he is worth then no way is he a net right now. Even if marks offered Crabbe $10mill a year Portland would still match and not need to trade. The truth is he had to do what he did. If the salary cap went up to $120mill as many expected gm's thought/assumed it would then Crabbe would still not be a Net. We still have players on Rookie deals that when they are up for re-signing Crabbe, Mozgov and Carrol will be just about off our books. So I don't buy into wasting/hogging up cap room. Because even though I love our preseason form so far. I don't think we are a attracting quality free agents for a while yet.

As I said in another thread, it's possible that he was upset the Blazers matched the offer sheet. He didn't like being the decoy for their scoring backcourt and wasn't playing as well as he could. Sounds like he's super motivated now. Perhaps Kenny and his system has done good things for him? on both the defensive and offensive sides.
OTOH, since he got injured in training camp/preseason, I guess he can't complain if he comes off the bench for the while.
Thanks for the honesty.MorbidHEAT wrote:My dislike for Lin started during Linsanity. It was absurd. It's probably irrational dislike at this point, but man he gets on my nerves. He's been tearing us up though.

DMC and RHJ have been the best two players on the floor for this team thus far. Crabbe will eventually start, as well as LeVert.
This is all leading to a Russell/LeVert/Crabbe/RHJ/Allen led roster anyway.

Yep, 2019/20 baby! Having Caris and Crabbe building chemistry over the next two seasons will be very useful when we are ready to be a force.

AC. He was the player we thought would originally be the franchise cornerstone, and I still think he could become a cornerstone for BKN. Hes going to shine in Kenny's offense and defense.
Edit - I love the nickname AC for Crabbe. But with Quincy Acy on the team and doing fantastic, it could get confusing, So I would like to propose Cool Breeze (his nickname in Portland). It suits him to a T. Good luck to Allen Cool Breeze Crabbe this season!
