Q. What do you strive to achieve in the NBA to hopefully bring more light to the Bosnian players growing up like yourself a couple years back?

DZANAN MUSA: I want to have, first of all, work ethic, to show them how it’s done. Work hard every day, stay humble, not get obsessed with media, with social media. Stuff like that. I just want to be humble and show them how it’s done.

I like this kid he's fiery and confident but sounds like a hard worker.

This guy's ball handling ability/potential seems to be way beyond what Bogdanovic can do. He also seems like a better athlete to me, with a much quicker first step. On the other hand, he's not the shooter that Bogdanovic is, and his 3pt shot seems to be inconsistent. Also doesn't seem to have any post game which is something Bogdanovic did have in Europe.

I like most of what I've seen from Musa but his body build/frame and T-rex wingspan is a concern. Hopefully he also takes out the Kobe esque chucker mentality out of his game here in the NBA.

isn't Kenny's system based on chucking?
Chucking 3s, yea. Musa's weakness seems to be iso plays tho. His idol is Kobe so it makes sense.

When you mention Kobe , for me something about Musa suggests that same hard edged arrogance too although obviously he’s not as good

Musa once said:

„To je bilo na kampu. Imao sam 11 ili 12 godina. Ja stvarno ne volim gubiti. U igri jedan na jedan, ispred mene bio je igrač koji je imao 18 godina, bio je dosta jači i nisam ga mogao pobijediti. Udarao sam ga, tukao, ali nisam ga mogao pobijediti. Na kraju sam zaplakao i otišao. Nema veze. Sad kad bi se sreli, bila bi drugačija situacija."

Will try to translate this:

"It was on (some) camp. I was like 11 - 12 years old. I really don't like to lose. I played one on one againt a 18 years old player, he was much stronger (than me) and I couldn't beat him. I hit him, I kick him, but I couldn't win. In the end I started crying and went away. Never mind. If we meet again, it would be a whole different situation."

Really says a bit about his charachter.

From interview after he was selected by Nets tonight

Q. The human body is obviously a huge thing playing this game of basketball. How important is your mindset? How important is the mental in this?

DZANAN MUSA: I think the most important thing is your mental strength and your basketball IQ. You have (Nikola) Jokic from Serbia in Denver, he doesn’t have a muscle in his body and he’s still one of the best centers in the NBA. You have to have it in your head.

Throwing mad shade at Jokic.

First time when he joined practise of the Bosnian senior national team, and he was like 17 and barely played serious basketball in life, asked about the team he answered: "We're good, there's me, Teletovic and Nurkic".

Lol that was funny but he's just stating facts, Jokic looks weak as hell and has zero muscle mass, I'm amazed that he's able to be very good at Center with no strength. He needs to get in the weight room though seriously. I just don't understand how you are in the NBA and I have more muscles on my body than him.

One mock draft has him at 19:

https://www.peachtreehoops.com/2018/6/20/17485232/nba-mock-draft-2018-dzanan-musa-luka-doncic-atlanta-hawks

He's been compared to Doncic, without the point guard qualities.

They're saying he would have been drafted much higher if he was willing to be stashed. That sounds good. G-League maybe.

OTOH, isn't it a bit strange that with Vezenkov, Musa and Kurucs, we've got three Euro SFs that're all 6-9 shooters? Is it a Marks' obsession, believe, fetish, he's playing odds or just coincidence?

Speaking of Mirza...I miss that guy. Had the heart of a warrior, and he was honestly one of our best players in his 2nd year with us. Also had a really good year with Phoenix.

Unfortunate about his PEs though.

Is he though? He's not lying.

I'd rather be unathletic and one of the best centers in the league than athletic and suck lol.

LOL what a boss!

I was one of (if not) the first to be on the Musa bandwagon before tonight's draft. Now that I'm finding out all of this info, I'm loving it even more. Even if he flamed out in end, I'm sure he'd go out with a bang lol.

i had atlanta and brooklyn as top destinations for dzanan musa, cause these are rebuilding teams which means hes likely to get a chance to play right away (and i like kenny atkinson), which likely wouldnt be the case if he joined some playoff team

as a bosnian, im cheering for him and im sure hell show his worth... good luck to him and to you guys!

I agree... lazy comparison. Bogs is a really built, strong, player. This guy seems leaner, quicker. not nearly as strong.
