Should have been 54 games not 72. its absurd.

Could not make the money work. They needed 72 for the TV deals.

Sucks but thats the way it had to be.

The players would lose a ton of money too. They had to agree to it for this to work.

You lose alot more money via injury then you do with a modified CBA/Schedule/TV contract amendment. The players union wasnt unanimous on this one, so there were differing opinions.

The league or players shouldnt be putting money over healthy.

TV stations are dumb here too. how many prime time games features scrubs because of injury?

lakers/nets had no AD/Lebron/Harden. tonights nets game no Harden/KD. last sixers game no Kyrie/Durant. clipper game no KD.

they maybe have extra games but most of those games are trash due to starts being out

I think we have a shot to win with Kyrie in the line up. We need to pressure them relentlessly on defense and force turnovers. Another big battle will be on the boards if we can team rebound on both ends, we have a decent chance.

Like Prok was saying with Vogal, we need the same mentality. We need a guy to step up like Mclamore did for the Lakers and Alize could be that guy, I read his contact is not guaranteed so he has got to play like his career depends on it. We also have strong veteran leadership from Jeff Green.

Our rotation will be Irving, Brown, Harris, Green, Claxton, Jordan, Shamet, TLC and Alize. We are going to get pounded and there isn't anything Nash can say or do to change this fact.

Read back to what i was talking about. i was looking for hunger/effort, not us getting a W.

Less cocnerned about that with kyrie playng

oh yeah i expect effort, but winning this one seems like a tall order. We'll see.

We have no shot of competing tonight. Not only are two of our big 3 out, but a good amount of our solid rotation players are out as well. Philly are extra motivated for tonight due to the implications, and they're fully healthy.

I mean that's fine but they should have at least tried to stretch the season out so that it ends in August. The league seems hell bent on getting the NBA back to it's regular late October start time at the expense of player safety.

Thats simply not true. Injuries do not equate for the lost revenue of 20 games.

Especially in local TV deals where people will watch regardless.

Also injuries would happen in any season. Maybe not to the same degree but they would happen.

With Kyrie in and LMA out i like our chances to be right there. we will have mobilty/finsihers/defense with Clax/DJ.

Depth is likely what kils us though. we are looking at probabl 18 minutes of:

Brown | TLC | Johnson | Perry | DJ type lineups.
'
They will have 3 times or so they have extended minuts vs that with a chance to pull away big.

I'd like to see nash fire these guys up with how LA was fired up to play is sans there 2 stars. that would help.

we could easily go up 12+ early to build a cushion if we come out with a purpose. Kyrie has beat better teams then philly by himself.

The networks didn't want to do it because it would compete with the Olympics and because of the poor viewerships numbers in late summer of last year.

I think this was the only option tbh.

Obviously its not best for the players but are the players willing to give up money?

These TV deals are what give them their contracts. Most other people have had to deal with worse during COVID.

From a players perspective, a major injury could certainly cost them alot more then a reduced revanue from a modified TV deal for less games.

You could lose this and next season plus see your next contract slashed significantly.

As far as local fans watching anyone, im sure the majroity here arent watching this game if kyrie was out.

They certainly are not getting rhe ratings they would with less stars being out for the big games. The way advertizing works, you guarantee your sponsors a certain time slot and ratings. if you fail, you typically need to give them credit/money back (unlikely) or gift them another commercial spot or game (very common). so they could see some losses on that end. it probably doesnt equal the losses of 18 less games, im sure they ran models on it, but it doesnt help

So they will get destroyed by the sixers and Lakers in the same week and everyone will talk about how this team can’t win a championship blah blah blah. I understand injury management but Nash should have kept Durant out last night and played him tonight.

Realistic expectations for this game, so not really expecting a W. What I do want to see is the surviving roster compete. Specific focus on rebounding and team defence.

I mean it’s okay to downplay this game ( injuries to key players etc ) but I want that fact to motivate / challenge the others to fight ( for pride / bragging rights ) if not the record.

Go nets!!

Agreed we should have kept KD out yesterday.

But it might be good if we become underdogs. I didn't like how so many talking heads were saying we were a lock to win.

Will give these guys more motivation.

I disagree.

Without KD, a loss to minnesota was possible. With KD a loss to the sixers is possible.

Best chance to come out 1-1 or better was playing KD in the first game. if we lost both we would be 2 games behind philly. now if we lose we are just 1 game back.

I agree about the underdog thing, but also that the first time they see us full strength is in the playoffs. so the first time they feel the full force of that punch in the face they will be shook.

So any word if Kyrie is playing or he just doesn't feel like it today? Either way we have too many guys out so I don't think we win. But without Kyrie we get smoked by 40 plus points, with Kyrie we can probably keep it close but I say a 10-15 point loss.

Is cheeze going to miss the rest of the season? If so then we need to sign a ball handler to take his spot. It's crucial. A game like today we could of used him, now we're hoping Kyrie is playing. If he's not playing then it will get so ugly with TLC,Shamet running the point.

Disagree. we could of beat Minn without KD, we was rolling with him on the bench.

And also we're already behind Philly, they own the tiebreaker. So if they win tonight, we're not just 1 game back we're basically 2 games back since they own the tie breaker. With Kyrie and KD we basically match them. We would of def beat Minn without KD.

- Kyrie is playing tonight
- Chiozza broke his middle finger, not his hand, had successful surgery. 6 weeks is the typical time frame

We have fared pretty well when just 1 of our stars is in the lineup. Including beating some really good teams:

Just Kyrie 3-1 (beat: Jazz, Knicks, Hornets)
Just KD 3-1 (beat: Denver, Minny, Knicks)
Just Harden 4-2 (Beat: Suns, Blazers, pistons, pacers)

Combined thats 10-4 with 8 of 10 wins coming against playoff teams.

i wouldnt completely write us off for tonight

No argument there.

Well, the next TV deal is going to send the salary cap skyrocketing anyway so the players will be fine in the long run
