Re: Official Nets Trade Spculation Thread
Something I've run in to when I try to set up trades for the Nets: the hard cap. I don't think RealGM or the ESPN trade machines have this built in, but apparently there's a hard cap and we're over it, so like, any trade has to bring us under it (which is like 30M). Maybe I'm misunderstanding it though.

No, we're not hard capped. The fanspo site is wrong.

Besides Durant/Harden/Kyrie/Patty/LMA I would put everyone on the block.
I just don’t think this personnel helps the stars. The don’t make dislodging screens or are rolling threats that help collapse defenses. Their also isn’t someone reliant in the short roll and the Harden trap isn’t going away, a god damn counter for that is crucial. They don’t rebound well enough. They don’t defend stars and the domino effect stars cause well enough. They believe one extreme shooter is better than multiple .33% shooters and that’s wrong.
4-15 just isn’t it for this team. More size and shooting is desperately needed.

LMA is part of the problem? Why wouldn't you put him on the block?

He’s a pretty good backup center. He shouldn’t start and I don’t think that was the plan, Blake regressed or went back to who’s he’s been for a couple of seasons and Nic didn’t develop into anything significant yet. On a team that didn’t want to prove SSOL they would’ve accepted the 18Rockets was the blueprint(like the Suns and Jazz did). He would be NeNe. Or even if we small balled like the Warriors(small but they have always played a lineup filled with actual wing sized players who can defend) he would be West/Bjelica). He shouldn’t be starting or closing. Just a spark plug. I know we want to cut cost but it’s just not possible tbh. It hurt us desperately we have 4 starters and Joe don’t complete the other 3. Relying on buyout/ring chasing older guys has a clear fault. They unlikely are positive defenders. Good for some consistent offense but that’s about it. Nash or the next coach will eventually see this and have 4-15 be 2way players.
While I would keep him I wouldn’t have chosen none of the 4-15 for this team. Including Patty. I think you could’ve gotten 10ppg from a 2way player. With this 3 they are destined to be low usage players. They need to attack opposing offenses and take spot ups/paint shots.

Re: Official Nets Trade Spculation Thread
Marks needs to make some moves.
We need another vet playmaker that can hit shots + a stretch big(Jeff Green role) that can be a positive(Not Milsap or Blake)
Getting Kyrie and Joe back will definately help, but the roster isn't good enough to win a chip.

Spears also reported that the Hawks had interest in a trade for Simmons until the 76ers broached the possibility of including Harris.
Windhorst reported that some executives have speculated that offloading the money of Simmons and Harris could pave the way for the 76ers to pursue James Harden in free agency.
https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/265407/76ers-Trying-To-Include-Tobias-Harris-In-Trade-Of-Ben-Simmons
At first I thought it would be a bold move to strip down a playoff team mid-season, but given Simmons won't play & Tobias is underachieving, it makes sense. Of course if they strike out in FA, then it might sting a bit. Philly can trade their first in '22 or '23. Can they get Atlanta to throw in enough picks to get OKC to take on Tobias?
If Morey thinks he has a real shot at Harden in FA, is there any combination of assets that Philly & Atlanta can put together to get Marks willing to deal Harden in conference?

I don't see anyway marks deals Harden in season. He really has to let it play out. you can rent Harden for a year for 7 picks + levert/Allen only to trade him for scraps after. KD is locked up, but that means nothing. gotta keep him happy or he will ask out too,

Nash has cried about spacing for a month. Marks should at the worst use a TPE to take on a 1-way role shooter on a 1-year bad salary or something

I agree, it's unlikely. I'm just wondering if there's some combo of picks & players (Simmons, Collins, Gallo, Curry, Reddish, Thybulle, Maxey, etc.) that would at least get Marks thinking about it. If you're handing over a star in conference, you have to extort your pound of flesh. I would think such a deal would have to start with picks, cost controlled players like Curry & Maxey, one large salary from ATL in Collins or Gallo (I think Collins could carve out a role here where as Gallo is likely a rental). Atlanta would also need to throw in Reddish. We'd dump Carter & Millsap. It's the type of deal that would essentially roll back what we gave away. but with some more proven role players at the expense of a few picks.
I'm becoming terrified of the idea of maxing out Harden & Kyrie this offseason. Harden is starting to give me Deron vibes in terms of explosiveness and conditioning just falling off a cliff. While Kyrie is injury prone, I can accept that risk. It's the constant disruptions and distractions that worry me. That being said, I have more confidence in Kyrie still being able to play at a $50mil per year level in 4 years than I do James.

I only see us taking on salary if it really moves the needle. It not going to be for a 10th man, unless he can also play some point.

I'm also worried about us maxing Harden and Kyrie and one or both falling off. I think Kyrie might fall off a little bit and become more of an inefficient scorer but still contributing. Harden I think will fall off really bad. He doesn't stay in shape, his game has been based on explosion to the rim and strength to draw fouls and score. He's clearly lost a step since we acquired him, his 3pt shot has really gotten bad and refs aren't giving him cheap fouls. Plus, Harden needs a very specific offense to succeed which restricts a) players we can acquire/use and b) how other players play. KD and Kyrie can play in any offense. Harden needs the shooters+lob threat he had in Houston.

Re: Official Nets Trade Spculation Thread
Just throwing this out there for fun, assuming Marks believes Harden will walk or has reservations about maxing him out.
Nets get: John Collins, Seth Curry, Cam Reddish, Tyrese Maxey + Picks (e.g. 2022 2nd from PHL (most favorable of ARL, BKN, CHA), 2023 PHL 1st & 2024 ATL 1st).
Philly gets: Harden, Jevon Carter
Hawks get: Ben Simmons, Paul Millsap
If we do move Harden, it's more likely in an offseason S&T.

I'd make that move (assuming fear if Harden leaving)

That's the kind of haul I want if we're gonna trade Harden. Though I think Millsap is on a one-year-deal so he wouldn't be part of it.

He's in the first year of a one year deal, so he doesn't have veto rights like Blake and Bruce. We have a full roster. We'll need to trade/cut an equivalent number to what we bring in, so Millsap and Carter would be cut if not included. One more player would also have to go via trade or cut.

My bad I wasn't clear - if we do it in the offseason Millsap couldn't be in it. I very much doubt they trade Harden (or Kyrie) in-season.

If the Clippers do in fact become sellers, should we have any interest in guys like Ibaka or Batum? Batum could help if he can stay healthy.
