Scoop B started the rumor, and now every web site and analyst just runs with it as if it were facts.

Marks is not dumb to put himself in a situation where he has to pay a below average undersized guard who can’t shoot $30+ million when he’s ages 32 to 36.

Look at how quick the 76ers screwed up their roster by overpaying role players. Even the Celtics had so much hope, and now if you go on their board, they are trying everything they can to dump Kemba. That’s exactly what would happen to us if we traded for Jrue.

Imagine being saddled with paying a 33 year old declining Jrue Holiday in 30 million in 3 years.

There are better moves to be made. Patience is key.

you dont have to. he only has 1 more year left. if extended, he would make less. if not extended you wouldnt owe him that. and he is by far our best shot at a title

If I'm the Pelicans, LeVert + Allen for Jrue or even LeVert, Allen, Prince for Jrue and JJ are absolute no brainers. I don't see how they turn that down or get anything better. It fits their timeline perfectly. JA is already a good starting center. Caris is the type of playmaking 2 who would be good next to Ball + has good upside.

Teams usually screw up and try to rush into contention when they have a star like Zion though. They should be focused on peaking in 2-3 years.

I think it's totally on Marks and how he sees LeVert and JA.

We’re so deep that our starting 5 from last season:

Dinwiddie / Temple / Harris / Prince / Allen

Could all be part of the 2nd unit. This was a starting 5 that made the playoffs. Which team in the league has that luxury?

We would still have KD, Kyrie, LeVert, DJ, the MLE, and the 19th pick to add to this lineup. Nash has talked about continuity. The team has a family vibe to it. You can tell there’s a chemistry of brotherhood between the core players that’s hard to create.

Imagine throwing all that away for a SG who can shoot.

he can shoot
he isnt under sized
he isnt average

he is an elite defender, all-star calibur player and would instantly make us substantially better.

the swapped butler for horford basically. we arent dumping a butler and jrue is much better than horford.

He can’t shoot.

Holiday 3 point percentage when closest defender is within 4-6 feet:

2019-2020 - 32% on 2.5 attempts
2018-2019 - 30.3% on 2.1 attempts
2017-2018 - 31.3% on 1.6 attempts

Even on open shots, he’s below average.

Just for comparison. Let’s look at Caris LeVert on open 3’s the last 3 seasons:

2019-2020 - 37% on 2.4 attempts
2018-2019 - 35.9% on 1.6 attempts
2017-2018 - 38.7% on 1.1 attempts

Holiday been in the league since 2009 and still is trying to figure out how to shoot. If after 10 years in the league, you’re still trash on open shots, how can we count on you in a Game 7?

—-

6’3 for a SG is undersized.

—-

He is average. There are easily 20 guards in the league that are light years better than him.

Realistic dream off-season for me would be:

Dinwiddie
Prince
Rodi or Claxton
19th pick
‘21 1st top 4 protected

For

Jrue

Then...

Allen
Temple
Musa
2nd round pick

For

Covington

Then...

Sign Justin Holiday to the Taxpayer’s MLE.

Then...

Re-sign Joe Harris.

he is already probably better than allen with a higher ceiling and cheaper. allen would need to go to a third team. Levert is a bad fit, he wouldnt get the touches/usage needed to have value there

i think it could work, but you need a 3rd team to take our pieces and send value to NO

Yup. Whether it’s LeVert or Dinwiddie headed to the Pels, if Allen is in the deal it’s only for value, with him headed to a 3rd team for a pick somewhere between say 8-15 headed to New Orleans.

Yea dont come at me with that noise. your data has no worth without expansion and context. It is just cherry picked.

what is the volume on threes taken with defender within 4-6 feet
what percentage is that volume of overall volume
what is the overall percentage. you dont get extra points for hitting an open 3 vs a contested one. they all count the same

Jrue shot the league average from three (.353, leauge average was .358) with higher then league average volume. His career average is right at league average as well (.354) he isnt a sniper, but to say he cant shoot is flat our wrong and just biased .

The way it works is New Orleans sends Allen to Boston and gets multiple 1st round picks in return. Allen with the Celtics gives them a lob threat which means you can no longer play zone against them. They would even get his Restricted Free Agency Rights.

So for the next 5 years, they would have a core of Tatum, Brown, Smart, Kemba, and Allen, while we’re stuck with 36 year old Jrue Holiday. Sounds like a great plan. Let’s help our biggest rival in the East.

So of neither LeVert or Allen are good fits/inferior players to what NO has now (and no, I do not think that Hayes is better than Allen currently), why would they even do business with us? The notion that we're going to trade for Jrue via a 3rd team seems far fetched to me.

30% on open 3’s. 3 year sample. You can be as delusional as you want, but the numbers are there. Absolute trash when it comes to hitting open jump shots. Funny how you ignore the numbers when they don’t support your narrative.

I've warmed to the idea of Jrue. He's a first class person, a great leader and locker room presence and is probably ready for a contending environment. We have discussed his middling shooting splits, but he's going to have better looks as a 3rd option.

I liken the combination of him and Kyrie to Thomas and Dumars. Joe wasn't tall either, but long, smart and determined as a defender of anyone 1 through 3. Holiday has the same mentality and versatility. If he becomes a 38% shooter from 3 in a reduced role, great. But even if he doesn't, he adds a ton of value.

FWIW, I don't think we would need to offer him a max deal in order to keep him. It may be 3 years, $84mil or something, but as many 2021 free agents as are available, I think we could retain him without getting into a bidding war.
