We can't really say this yet.

If Cleveland goes on to win the title, I'm sure most will probably look to whatever changes the Cavs made post-Blatt's exit and say that's what made them better.

The problem now is that the Cavs really need to win the title to justify this. It's ridiculous to see a coach fired with a career winning percentage above .660 and a season winning percentage at almost .750 with already half of the games played this season.

Btw, Blatt was originally offered an assistant HC position by Steve Kerr on the Warriors but turned it down after the Cavs offered him the job.

I don't think Thibs would ever be an assistant coach again but I can very well see Blatt as one. Although I assume he'll probably be tabbed as one after the season is done and there are more coaching vacancies.

I hope he gets an interview and if he doesn't get the gig, I hope he'd be offered a spot as the lead assistant.

yes and no.... i mean mark jackson had a great win% in golden state, but he was a bad coach. they ditched him and now are an insanely elite team.

blatt wasnt working. and for them its less about coaching or system and more about getting the ego's in sync. like when pat riley axed the coach to step in, manage the egos, and go get a title.

Blatt always had a deer in the headlights look. He just never had a chance, since he noticeably wasn't able to imprint his personality on that team... he was pretty much just a passenger over there. So for that reason, I expect them to be better... since they won't be able to have the coach excuse anymore.

Well, when your best player comes in and starts playing GM/Coach/Owner, I don't expect a 1st year head coach to succeed.

Regarding them being better...well, they went out and dogged it vs. the league's top team. Their offense looked pretty good to start the season but once Kyrie came back it reverted to ISO ball. It's not a coincidence they got whipped.

You do not let the inmates run the asylum. Lue is a yes man coach. No assistant coach gets a multi year extension following a head coach getting fired. That move was mandated by Lebron James and Rich Paul. When Cleveland brought Lebron back they signed a deal with the devil and you can bet the next contact Lebron signs will have another opt out in the 2nd year to keep Dan Gilbert on his knees like a damn dog

i dont blame blatt, but if you dont command respect, the inmates are going to run the asylum. im not sure he has head coaching chops at this point, unless its on a super young sixers type team. too many egos in the NBA. which is why i wouldnt sign up for blatt. i want someone more established

I'm not really vouching for him, but I can see how being thrust into that position with no NBA experience can be unsettling. Can you imagine Brad Stevens thriving in a situation where your top player and one of the 3 best players in the world doesn't respect you from day 1? Lebron treated Spoelstra like trash too early on during his time in Miami.

I told at the start Cleveland should had played hardball and call the Bron out and take the risk. he is coward about his image, he would not leave.

I think we should hire Mark Jackson.

I know all the hate out there about him, but I think he has a great relationship with players and could recruit some free agents to come here. I think hes learning and could do better.

Someone like Thibs or Blatt are not going to help change the dynamics of this team. I think Jackson would be great to watch.

I'm cool with Blatt as HC- he has a system, and how many years of HC experience? Somewhere near 20 right? He runs a Princeton offense and knows specifically which type of personnel he needs to make it work. He never had a fair shot in Cle - you could tell next to none of his stuff was being run, and yet he still got the Cavs to the ECF and 1st place in the East this season. Lebron didn't take his direction, and that was clear - James' let me drive to the rim and make the correct pass has gotten him far, but it won't get him past the Warriors or the Spurs without being surrounded nearly exclusively with excellent off-ball spot-up shooters. Kerr wanted Blatt on his staff, so this dude knows his Xs and Os.

you mean lebron got them to finals in spite of him

last years finals was like watching two idiots play chess neither coach really distinguished them selves

kerr finally decided to make a change after 4 games

and blatt had no clue how to respond

Whatever happened in GS that got him fired from a playoff team a season before the team won the NBA title is so toxic that even Cleveland's GM refused to cave into Lebron's demands to hire him.

That speaks volumes considering how bad Lebron is punking the Cavs right now

Don't know much about Blatt, but its pretty refreshing to hear a coach talk actual situational basketball during timeouts

I'm interested if that means Coach/GM or Coach/POBO... and in either case, I'm not sold either way if its a good idea or bad.

I'd probably be down with Thibs Coach/POBO with Colangelo as GM
