Welcome KD!!!

Post#223 » by Paradise » Sat Sep 7, 2019 5:24 am

KD finally speaks on the Nets!

"Yeah, I'm excited about this group. Obviously with me not starting off the season, you’re going to see a lot of guys step up and go to another level as a player. Caris, Joe Harris, Taurean Prince.”

“I think everybody is going to step up and take it to the next level. We got great coaching, great front office, a great fanbase that’s excited for something new. It’s a fresh start for everybody I feel.”

Team Durant’s plan is for him to hole up here all summer, then transition to his new home in New York City soon after Labor Day. He’s flying east tonight to look at a few places. Friends have urged him to consider Manhattan, but Dumbo, he thinks, might be more his speed. He wants high ceilings, a sick view, proximity to the Nets practice gym. He lives for a gym, prides himself on rolling out of bed straight into practice. “I don’t wear matching clothes…I don’t wash my face, I don’t brush my hair. I just come in there and go to work.”

Durant says his decision-making process was as simple on the inside as it looked from the outside. Brooklyn was the right fit; he just knew. He didn’t even speak to the Nets before his decision, he says. He didn’t need a PowerPoint. He’s always felt big love as a visiting player at Barclays Center, he says, and he wondered what it might be like if he were on the home team. Plus, the Nets offered the opportunity to join his “best friend in the league,” Kyrie Irving.

KD admits he never felt accepted in Golden State:

Of course, Durant says, he was conflicted about leaving the Bay Area. “I came in there wanting to be part of a group, wanting to be part of a family, and definitely felt accepted,” he says. “But I’ll never be one of those guys. I didn’t get drafted there.… Steph Curry, obviously drafted there. Andre Iguodala, won the first Finals, first championship. Klay Thompson, drafted there. Draymond Green, drafted there. And the rest of the guys kind of rehabilitated their careers there. So me? ****, how you going to rehabilitate me? What you going to teach me? How can you alter anything in my basketball life? I got an MVP already. I got scoring titles.”

“As time went on,” he says, “I started to realize I’m just different from the rest of the guys. It’s not a bad thing. Just my circumstances and how I came up in the league. And on top of that, the media always looked at it like KD and the Warriors. So it’s like nobody could get a full acceptance of me there.”

Yikes... it's like a smorgasbord of cringe-worthy Durant quotes, today.

The one about being willing to return to OKC until he got turned off by their collective 'poor attitude' was maybe the most amazing one of all.

I don't think the WT articles give the full context.

"His mother recalls one particularly appalling piece of video: a Thunder fan firing bullets into a No. 35 jersey. Bullets—after she and Durant and half his extended family relocated to Oklahoma, after they embraced the community, after Durant gave a million dollars to tornado victims."

Imagine being in his position who had done so much for the OKC community in his time there, only to receive the amount of vitriol he did on his return after leaving. Not just from fans, but also the organization staff.

I sincerely hope KD (and Kyrie) can have productive careers with the Nets, maximising their strengths and minimising their headcasery.

If anyone still doesn't understand why OKC fans were deeply offended by KD's jump to the Warriors, or how KD seems relentlessly oblivious to why they felt that way, feel free to cruise over to the GB and listen (and/or argue) with the many... many other posters commenting on all of today's KD quotes.

Have fun, and have a nice day.

I’m sorry but I don’t care if it’s off topic but Oklahoma has a very ugly history with black people and racism. It was always a running joke that they had zero black fans in the stands during the playoff runs and it wasn’t too long ago two black men were hung mysteriously.

So, it’s obviously going to make some people and others who are knowledgeable on their history or their own self respect to tolerate that kind of disrespect and think it’s okay because he left a loyal fan base? OKC continued to mishandle it’s stars after he left. So, I don’t see why it’s wrong for him to express not wanting to return.

I hope yall are ready for some serious beef this season on here. KD and Kyrie have these fools out here triggered hard. we're going to be seeing a lot of crap thrown our way on this board from bitter ass Knick, Celtic, and now Thunder fans and I won't be surprised if Raptor fans want to try and get a piece too.

Everyone stick together. anyone who talks down on the Nets is getting lit up on here. no need to curse at people or break rules but when these idiots come on here next month be prepared.

KD and Kyrie are Nets. Until proven otherwise, they're good with me and I hope you all will rally behind them as well. They WANTED to be here. That in itself is enough for me, a fan who has watched this team since the 90s.

Despite my earlier nitpicks about these two, I'm increasingly impressed by the various signs I've seen indicating how very hard they work and how very dedicated they are to their craft. As one small example, KD is reportedly choosing his Brooklyn home with a high degree of bias towards how close it is to the Nets practice facility. Evidently he wants to kind of just roll out of bed, skip right over, and practice for hours. I love it.

At the end of the day, that stuff tends to mean much more to me than some silly media or internet kerfuffle. Individuals are going to be individuals, sometimes a bit odd or different, but bball is what these guys are actually paid for, and in real world terms, it seems to me that they're both crushing it.

If things do get a little weird for whatever reason, I expect Kenny, Sean and their respective staffs to deal with the matter with skill and professionalism, just like they've always done.

TBH I was highly skeptical when Prok said some time back that last season's Celts were much more of a train wreck than previously known, but it seems to have been pretty much confirmed all the way down the line at this point. Side note: crow isn't really that bad, especially with the right hot sauce.

So... yeah. I'm increasingly with you on this one, MDB. These guys earned a clean slate by the merits of their own play on the court, and their complicated previous engagements suggest that laying the blame on any one person is something to be avoided by those who aren't just inexpensive excrement-agitators.

If trolls or borderline trolls indeed attack us in future, thoughts like these will probably form the bulk of my response. I'll just be keeping it real, after all. For all I care, they are free to make fools of themselves arguing against facts and reality.

Yeah it's just typical salty fans ignoring what is actually being said. Someone went to his HOUSE and put up a For Sale sign with Coward written on it. They had to have police at his house 24/7. This wasn't regular fan hate. This stuff crossed the line.

Disappointed as a Warriors fan that he left but I guess he just couldn’t mesh with the Warriors stars.

Wish him the best in his recovery.

But there is definitely meltdown potential with Kylie and KD. Their history certainly points to it.

Good luck though, should be an interesting couple of years.

I hope KD will play in 2019-20 season. Maybe in March he will return? I hope he will return to his old form, it's such a shame he torn his Achilles in Game 5. He shouldn't have played.
