Guys in the top 14 picks from 91 to 06. I did to 06 because the newer drafts are harder to judge talent at this point. Give them a few years and we will see and I also only went to 06 on the above 15 guys.

- Mutombo, Steve Smith, Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, Robert Horry, Chis webber, Anfernee Hardaway, jamal Mashburn, allan houston, glenn Robinson, Jkidd, Grant hill, eddie jones, brian grant, jalen rose, Mcdyess, Rasheed wallace, KG, AI, Camby, Marbury, Ray allen, Antoine walker, Koby, stojakovic, duncan, billups, mcgrady, bibby, jamison, vince carter, dirk, paul pierce, jason williams, larry huges, elton brand, steve francis, barron davis, richard hamilton, andre miller, shawn marion, jason terry, corey maggette, kmart, mike miller, jamal crawford, tyson chandler, pau gasol, jason richardson, joe johnson, richard jefferson, troy murphy, lebron, melo, bosh, kaman, hinrich, tj ford, dwight howard, devin harris, ben gordon, luol deng, andre iguodala, bogut, marvin williams, deron williams, chris paul, raymond felton, andrew bynum, bargnani, lemarcus aldridge, brandon roy, rudy gay.

yes there are more talented players in the lottery but there are an even longer list of lottery picks and first picks that didn't do anything or didn't become good players. Put teams together from both.

jkidd, wade, lebron, bosh, shaq, amare, mourning, kg, ai, koby, hill, duncan, carter, dirk, pierce, melo, howard, paul, and roy are the best of the best from the this list. these type of players only come around so often and the rest of them are no better than the list of players after 15.

I think it's best to draft by best player available and then address needs via free agency and/or through trades...Just my two cents on the issue...

bottom line...this year's draft is the only one that matters...yeh there have been guys who fell or unknowns that have been picked up late in the draft...happens every year...

What does matter is our scouting, who we are looking at....I always say WE NEED TO DRAFT THE BEST POSSIBLE PLAYER...not a player we are looking to fill a position...if we do that we should be fine...

I am not 100% confident in Thorn's theorys, but he does a pretty good job...if you asked me if I have doubts, hell yeah, just look at Granger, YOU SEE!!! there I go again, I said his namge again, SOB...friggin Granger...

Thats one of my biggest concerns. I know the team doesn't have advanced scouts due to cost cutting, yeah they dont have much to do with the draft but what else are we missing due to cost cutting. It took forever to get Prokhy approved and everyone was saying the Nets can't do anything until that happens. So to me that means they are getting a sort of late start on the scouting and evaluating. The top guys are a given, its the late picks that i'm concerned about, something Thorn has like a 3% success rate picking as it were.

As for BPA, normally thats my strategy, but in this case we should not do that. We have too many guards as it is, there just isn't enough playing time so it makes no sense to draft another one with that late pick. BPA as long as its not a guard.

Drafting the best players that were left didn't get us anything so far. Thorn thought he was drafting the best player with all his late draft picks and it got us nothing. If we draft on needs and take the best player for that need then we will be able to play that player and give that player an opportunity to show what skills he has then we let that player develop and become one of those steals.

if we draft a player based on who is the best left and its a position we already have too many players at then that player probably won't get a chance to show anything because he will be stuck behind the other players. Like at 2 guard with cdr, lee and williams. all are similar type players with similar abilities at this point and if we draft a similar player at the 27th pick or 31st pick then that player will sit on the bench and not have any opportunity to get in the games and show us what he can do.

If we draft the best sf or pf left at those positions then they will have all the time to show what they can do and learn. I'm not saying pass on a great player that may have dropped to us for what ever reason. If that comes along take them no matter what position. But we did that with Marcus Williams and he did nothing. did that with sean williams and he did nothing. we didn't need a point guard at least not one that wasn't always going to be kidd's backup and sean got stuck behind boone, krstic and lopez.

With the exception of Brook and Krstic, I don't remember Thorn ever drafting the BPA...

really what about marcus williams. We were all so happy that draft when he fell to us. He was the best player left. What about sean williams. same thing so happy when he fell. remember them.

Neither was the BPA, they just seemed that way to the casual fan, I will admit to guilt in that myself when it came to Marcus Williams. He had glaring character issues, lack of athleticism, uber high body fat %, complete lack of defense and numerous glaring holes in his game. Kyle Lowry, Jordan Farmar and Sergio Rodriguez were all better players and prospects, Thorn just went for "the name" guy and fell into the college stats trap.
Sean Williams was the best raw athlete, but he was never BPA and had glaring character issues, severe known lack of BBIQ, no offensive game, etc. I wasn't a big fan of that pick.

Growing up close to Seattle obviously the Sonics were my favorite team. But even as a kid I liked your team. Not sure if I can say they were officially my #2 but I always have had a fondness for the Nets.

I loved Drazen Petrovic. He was so much fun to watch. At one point he was my favorite non Sonic. Then that Summer he was in the car crash.

I hated the Knicks so I remember cheering for the Nets in the playoffs and watching Kenny Anderson go flying into the front couple rows because Mason(? so long ago I can't quite remember) gave him a nasty dirty shove. Next thing you know that's it, broken wrist.

What was not to love about the Garden Snake (Shawn Bradley)?

Then I was excited for the John Calipari and Kerry Kittles era that never quite took off.

But the ping pong balls bounced your way and you got K-Mart. Kidd came around with a trade. You guys had a couple nice deep runs to the playoffs and then K-Mart bolted for Denver for a bloated contract.

Other than the couple years with Kidd it seems you guys have had plenty of things go awry. I hate to see a team move, fortunately for you guys it's not across the country. But I really hope you win the lotto and draft Wall.

I think if you can nab the #1 and pair Lopez with Wall along with the move to Brooklyn, new owner with DEEEEP pockets, that has to be a tempting scenario for Lebron James. I actually really like your chances at landing him. I think you are better than a dark horse really. Would you want to go play for Mike D'Antoni?

With the Suns playing the way they are with Gentry, looks like Mike might be a little over rated.

At any rate I really hope you guys get lucky with your ping pong balls.

I think that if the Nets hadn't completely wet the bed this season, and had a "respectable" losing season of lets say 22 wins, we'd have a decent shot at Lebron if a) The Cavs get blown out tomorrow night and are eliminated, b) We won the lottery and got wall, and c) Brooklyn came a bit sooner, like 2011. As such, while I don't believe that Lebron will be coming here, I do think that as a whole, the team deserves to win the lottery. They were really that bad, there was no tanking going on at all.

Question from the Pacers. After you pick Wall, what is your next Pressing NEED and can we work a trade from Harris? What is that NEED?

^^A PF and a scoring wing. I would definitely be interested in doing a Harris + Dallas pick + Yi for Danny Granger deal, though the pacers would most likely say no.

More specifically, a shooting wing. And, yeah, they would say no. The point would be to pair Harris and Granger togther if they were to make a trade for Harris.

Yup yup.

I think the 10th overall, Brandon Rush and an expiring for Devin is a deal that will wind up having legs if the Nets draft Wall though.

As do I, I want to see the direction this team takes in the coming months.

Question for you guys:

Say you land the top pick: that makes Harris movable.

I think this trade is doable, but I am foggy on some rules/restrictions: Devin Harris and Keyon Dooling for Erick Dampier. Dampier is an interesting case because he has an unguaranteed contract and can be waived for his 2010-2011 salary immediately.

So, this gives you this roster(salaries according to shamsports):

1. Yi: 4.05 million
2. Humphries: 3.2 million
3. Brook: 2.4 million
4. TWill: 2.2 million
5. Courtney: 1.35 million
6. Pick Cap Hold: 4.3 million
7. Pick Cap Hold: 870k
8. Max 1:
9. Max 2:
10-12. Cap holds: 473k a piece = 1.42 million

19.79 million. Which is 36 mill under the cap: enough to sign two max guys.

Of course, I probably screwed up a rule so this probably can't happen. And you'd pretty much have to get a guarantee from two guys that want to play for you to part with Devin Harris. But I think that's a damn good foundation to go to. The other teams don't have a center to man the paint for the next 10-14 years.

We would NEED a guarantee from two of the max guys for that to make any sense, but you never know. I mean a trade like that wouldn't be draft day anyway, it would be during the FA period, so it could literally be done with the 2nd max guy sitting in Prokhorov's office waiting for league approval on the trade to be faxed back and then he could sign, in theory. I still think Dallas would have to send a further asset though, I am sure there is a team that would give future picks and/or a decent young prospect in addition to pure cap room for Devin Harris.

we know this now. But then it looked like williams was it at that pick the best player left. Even the announcers were talking that way. Hind sight we see he wasn't. I'm talking then.
