Re: Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season
Back to back efficient 50 pt games by Beal, including one against the best team in the league. It's laughable to see people here put Jrue Holiday on the same tier as Beal.

Thought this was interesting, how well this FO has planned out stuff. Even now, you can see with all our contracts, they've thought about what's ahead, after 3-4 years.
Prince and LeVert's contracts are also very tradeable.
I know everyone is heavily speculating on Bradley Beal but I think Jrue Holiday might work out better.
LeVert, Prince, Musa, Kurucs, 2022 1st, 2023 or ‘24 1st + multiple 2nds for Holiday should get a conversation started. The Pelicans have Hayes and haven’t seen enough of Okafor due to injury plus having Favors, so it’s hard to imagine them wanting Allen.
Kyrie / Dinwiddie / Hands
Holiday / Temple / *1st round pick*
Harris / TLC
KD / *FA* / Clax
Allen / Jordan
If the Pelicans would be okay with that kind of package, we still also keep our 1st pick this year to bolster the bench.

It would have to be LeVert, Prince, Allen, and probably two lottery protected 1sts for Beal.
More like Allen, LeVert, Prince, Claxton, Musa, 2022 1st, 2024 1st unprotected or 1-3 + multiple 2nds.
Wow let's slow down here buddy. I'll be pissed if we give up that much. Brad is good but not that good.
You were saying? Lol
I’d go all in on Beal if we can at this point and could still retain Joe.
Beal has now become the 2nd only player to score 50+ on consecutive nights since...Kobe in 2007. Imagine him and Kyrie in a backcourt with that inspired mamba mentality...

Would love to swing a deal for Beal but not sure the Wiz will let him go.
Dude has been tearing it up for a while now. He would be a great fit next Kyrie/KD.

Re: Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season
I love Beal but is he really the ideal fit next to KD and KI tho? Both players(KD/KI) will require a certain amount of ball handling duties to feel comfortable.
I guess you can stagger lineups(also account for injuries) but I'm a tad worried that one of the 3 would feel under-utilized. WIll probably be Beal since he's the junior and it's basically KD, KI team. Especially in 4th Q and tight games. What's gonna happen if we have a rough stretch. I don't think Beal has a relationship with either KD/KI to help keep things smooth.
Also worried about what it's mean defensively as KI and Beal are not a good defensive back court and KD probably shouldn't have too much defensive expectations.
If we do trade Beal then a wing defender/stopper is an absolute must. KI-BB-wing 3&D-KD-DJ is much better than say KI-BB-Harris-KD-DJ. (defensively anyway)
Anyway, in terms of fit I'd rather Jrue because he can handle the ball as a lead guard but also seamlessly play off ball and play defense.

Like I've said, Marks isn't a dummy, he can assess the weaknesses of the roster, and he isn't afraid to make a bold move or two. So for anyone who thought that Marks won't touch the roster this summer, well, here's direct proof that there is good possibility.
Exactly and say it again. That month of late Dec entire Jan changed my view 180. I would not tolerate mediocrity whether some like it or not. Last time we really had a chance to build something special, Ratner did us dirty. We had a chance to team up J.Kidd, VC and KGnever will forget him that. Beside Kyrie, KD, Din and DJ I consider everyone trade option unless they step their game up.
Marks literally praised the teams efforts this year non stop in that interview. he thinks the team is playing outstanding basketball. He notes the injury to Kyrie as the reason why the record isnt up there with toronto and miami and boston. He also praised Jarrett Allen.
If marks can add a star in a trade he will. but short of that, the roster will be basically the same

Either one of those guys would fit in really well IMO. Maybe if Beal's asking price is too absurd, Marks leans Jrue. Who knows. I just want us to 100% resign Joe and 100% retain Spencer.
I see the fit with Jrue. he is elite defensively and great off ball.
I think beal while a great player is an awful fit. i think unless you are trading kyrie for him, it doesnt work. as a 3rd scorer it minmizes his impact.

jrue would be great but I think we are guard heavy already. We need a wing. No way around it, we need a top wing defender that can make the 3. As far as stars go, I'm not sure who would be a good fit next to KD and Kyrie that we can actually trade for. Aaron Gordon played lights out last night, I think I rather go out with him than Beal. He can defend the wing and we can throw lobs to him like Allen. Maybe Gallinari? It's pretty tough but I think we need 1 more piece or 2 .

Re: Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season
On the other hand, a scoring punch of Kyrie-Beal-KD would be unstoppable, and make us instant title favorites. Beal is a terrible defender right now, as he is focused on getting his numbers, but the dude can play solid defense, I think he has shown that in his career when he has bothered to play defense. Our last game against Wizards was a good example, he was playing tough defense that game (and how Kyrie ended up having that knee injury). I'll agree that Jrue is the better fit, mostly because the cost should be significantly less to get him, compared to Beal, and Jrue is a top tier defender. But don't underestimate how good Beal is, and he's still only 26, entering the prime of his career. Beal can handle the ball fine, is used to playing off ball, and like you've mentioned, we can stagger lineups. Also if Kyrie goes down, Beal is good enough to step up and replace that scoring punch.3pt_chucker wrote:I love Beal but is he really the ideal fit next to KD and KI tho? Gallinari is a great fit. but i think we need 2-3 more than a 3-4. I think Jrue is the best fit. he can lock down guards and wings and Harris is more of a 3 wing than a G.
Kyrie | Jrue | Harris | KD | Allen is a sick lineup with enough defense and all-time elite type shooting

Would it be unstoppable. im not sure it would because we would then have 3 guys who need the ball instead of 2. and like, how much better is our offensw with Beal as the #3 guy as opposed to say Harris who stretches the floor the same way and doesnt need the ball?
There is a point of diminishing returns when you add too many ball dominant scorers. We know 2 of them works. 3 sometimes does but even than typically the #3 guy sees a big drop off.
I wouldnt be against beal, but id rather go another route for more of a defender/shooter Klay type than another Kyrie

I'd rather have Jrue because he fills a need on this roster. Beal is great, but like you said he needs the ball too much when we already have two ball dominant players.
I doubt NO swings that deal though. They are going to want to have as much talent around Zion as possible.

I agree, we definitely need a guard that can defend too and Jrue fits that bill. He can guard the better guards so Kyrie don't have to. And we'll have 3 guards that can handle the ball if need be, in case Kyrie takes some time off, we wouldn't be in the position we're in now having to only rely on Dinwiddie and inconsistent Levert. It will be tough to get Jrue here. I think that's who we should aim for though. And get a cheap wing defender like Harkless or Crowder or such, I hope they'll accept the MLE. Then we'll be locked and loaded and ready to go IMO.

Re: Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season
I don't think we have enough to get Beal unless we give up absolutely everything. That almost goes against everything Marks stands for. I think what's more likely is we flip Philly's 1st round pick this year + Prince or LeVert for good proven veteran roleplayer. Swinging for a 3rd star is great but will be tough without killing our depth and flexibility. Super important since Ky and KD have injury concerns.
I think it's clear that our most pressing need is big 3/4 wing defender that can shoot OK. We need to slow down Simmons, Tatum, Lebron, Doncic, Kawhi, etc.Temple is our best defender but he's too small to hang with those guys. Harris, Prince, CLV, Dinwiddie, etc. have no chance. I was hoping Rodi could turn into that guy but after a wasted year, we can't depend on him.
Outside of that, the team is pretty complete as is. Prince and LeVert are question marks. Wouldn't be shocked if they got rid of Prince but kept LeVert since Kenny and Sean love him. Allen needs to keep developing but DJ has shown enough as a backup to fill in the gaps. The team really has to focus on developing Rodi + Claxton. If one of those guys hit, we'd have a scary team.

Re: Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season
Listening to the Lowe Post today, he mentioned something about Jrue being a great defender but just couldn't hang against Lebron bc of the height difference but still took the assignment defensively. If Jrue has been getting that steady stream of hard defensive assignments in the WC (which I'm assuming, I must say I don't watch much basketball outside of Nets games and some highlights), it got me thinking to just how perfect of a fit he would be as a third complimentary piece.
My thoughts are also if we trade for Jrue and we still have KD and Allen, there's enough defensive talent around to handle good lineups. Sprinkle in the offense talents of Kyrie and Joe's shooting.
Not only that, but trading for Jrue (over Beal) would probably not drain us of ALL assets.
1) Start with Levert -- he's the immediate replacement for Jrue (from NO's perspective) and much younger. I think he'd be a good fit if they put him in the starting role (Lonzo-Levert-Zion-Ingram-Favors) and not to mention he's been showing out lately, improving his value.
2) Add Prince, who's still young and can fit into NO's timeline. He's a serviceable player and he'd help make the deal work financially.
3) Add Rodi or Musa
4) Picks... not sure how much we're willing to include here. I'd like to hang onto that Philly pick this year, so maybe a 2021 1st and some 2nds.
just some thoughts!

Not sure what you mean by "absolutely everything", but any package for Beal would have to start at Dinwiddie, Levert, Allen, and then adding picks.MGrand15 wrote:I don't think we have enough to get Beal unless we give up absolutely everything. The big 3/4 wing defenders who are competent offensively are hard to find in the league. Technically we have one in KD, who is a versatile, plus defender with his length, mobility, and bball IQ. We had a top wing defender in the making before he tore his achilles (Nwaba). If he recovers well from his achilles, we have the option to give him another shot on the team. I also outlined a trade for Jrue Holiday in the OP, who is a combo guard, but a very good defender, if not outmatched by sheer size. Also, there have been a lot of rumors of Aaron Gordon trades to here, he's another guy who can defend 3/4 well with his size and athleticism, although he is a pretty mediocre offensive player.

Re: Nets Going Forward: Planning for Next Season
Beal has shown the ability to play off ball fine, he is used to playing next to a ball dominant PG like Wall. Beal's usage rate had never even went above 30% until this season. Beal also came into the league having a reputation of elite shooter potential, and while his 3pt shooting has declined over the past few seasons with high volume scoring, he's still a high volume, above average shooting threat. It's ridiculous to think that having Beal instead of Joe Harris wouldn't make a massive positive difference in our offense. They don't play the same positions regardless, so I'm not sure what the point is.Prokorov wrote:DarkXaero wrote:On the other hand, a scoring punch of Kyrie-Beal-KD would be unstoppable, and make us instant title favorites. Also if Kyrie goes down, Beal is good enough to step up and replace that scoring punch.
There's no "Klay type" in the league, there's only one Klay, and we can't get him. There also aren't many genuine high level 3&D guys in the league, and they tend to be overvalued because every team wants them or can use them. You can always have one of Kyrie & Beal on the floor at all times by staggering minutes, and Beal can step up big time, if Kyrie is out with injury. I'm not suggesting that we should definitely make a trade for Beal or anything, but it is a possibility that should be considered.
