Seriously we should stop trying with McCullough and Budinger and let the other newbies have a shot. Vasquez needs to up his game, we should expect a higher performance from a veteran.

Defensive effort leaders: LSco (8), IWhi (6) others not worth mentioning (i.e. index score below 5).

Those guys will be great as spot up shooters.
Hopefully there will be a few other players who can emerge as a good penetrator other than Lin to have more options for the team or someone who can create their shot. Although Bogan is pretty sick.
Overall I think this team is going to surprise the league. They have hustle and heart, just need to pull it together and see if others will step up besides the main players who we already know will produce.
I've been saying for a while now that this team's weakness is going to be that they don't have a second creator/ball handler alonside Lin. Maybe they're hoping that Kilpatrick will fill in that role, but as of now, it's going to be really bad if Lin is pressured to give up the ball early or he's unavailable to play.
Ball movement will be extremely necessary for the Nets to have any shot at winning some games.
We have a 2nd creator and his name is Yogi. We need him to make the team.

Yea I hadn't seen much of his game, but definitely not living up to the hype I'd heard from this forum so far. Hopefully he's just had a few bad games and will start going harder on defense once the regular season starts. Right now defensively he is getting torched and with his offensive inability that can't happen. I'm thinking perhaps the best starting five and 9-man rotation is Lin, Foye, Bogs, Scola, Lopez with backups being Whitehead/Vasquez (rough choice either way), Skill, RHJ, Hamilton

I agree I think he's our best option at the backup PG. Cut Vasquez, Whitehead can be injury fill-in

We can only afford one non-offensive player on the floor. RHJ and Booker playing together is going to lead to ugly basketball.

You are forgetting Booker anc Harris
.. lets give RHJ some time. I am waiting until at least a few weeks into the season to draw conclusions

Oh shoot my bad, I forgot to list Booker lol. I'd probably start him over Scola and have Scola lead the bench. Knew I was leaving someone out haha

And Harris of course hahah, in probably just so distraught after the tough L my brain has quit. Yea, I'd probably then slide Skill to the 1 at backup PG and and use Harris as backup 2

So official best lineup IMO:
Lin, Foye, Bogs, Booker, Lopez
Skill, Harris, RHJ, Scola, Hamilton
Actually isn't that bad, let's just pray Lopez stays healthy

To my eyes he's about the worst.
He is easily better than Hamilton, Bennet and CMC... if you can't see that, I don't know what's in your eyes...
Being better than those guys is something Scola should take personal pride in. However, as fans of the team hoping that they won't come dead last in the league in standings, him being better than them isn't much of a consolation because collectively they're not good and depending on a 36 year old vet to hold down your defense for that stretch of time is not good.
I'm not blaming Scola. He's doing his best. It's the other guys who are much younger than Scola who ought to be embarrassed.

This is exactly why I'm a proponent of taking these preseason games a little bit more seriously so that moral aren't destroyed before the season even start...not saying your main guys should play 30 in all preseason games, but at least 25 if it's close...Brooklyn needs to look respectable since everyone thing they will be horrible..If they are already losing big in preseason, it may become a prophecy for the regular season.
At least, I'm Glad Kenny decided to sit more than 2 players so that he could give those he chose to play tonight, more minutes.
I'm hoping Brook Lopez wkill be ramped up from now on and actually try to get the ball to him and let Lin run PnR through Lopez.

I'm actually not worried about RHJ's defense. Unless he has no desire to play it, it's almost inconceivable for him to have a drop off already.
It's his offense that is still JuCo level that has me concerned. Learning how to create his very hard and even impossible for many players once they've made it to the league. They've succeeded thus far without needing to be a good dribbler so why change if you don't need to.
We'll now that he's at the NBA level and can't be hidden on offense, he needs to be able to contribute.
I was/am hoping that he would've worked on corner 3s this past offseason with the goal of becoming a good overall 3pt shooter in the following year and a creator the next.
Welp, he's got a ways to go lol.

I must say that I've been underwhelmed my RHJ's play so far...He really need to do better on offense....Still maintain that you can't have both RHJ and Booker start together...2 guys that can't shoot, should be separated...Either Booker come off the bench or RHJ should do so.
I'd rather start Harris at SF at this point, if RHJ is not impacting.

Booker shot 2-7 today despite not taking a shot outside of 8 feet from the basket.
He isnt showing much BBIQ either as shown by the possession where he got the defensive rebound, dribbled the ball up and drove to the basket only to miss the layup. Great way to waste a possession.
He looks like he is generously listed as 6'8". He looks really small.
For his limited skillset he is grossly overpaid. I would have rather kept T-Rob.

Re: Preseason Hoops: NETS @ HEAT - Tuesday, 7:30pm NBA TV
Our defense was complete garbage tonight. I understand its preseason but Heat aren't really even a playoffs team (they might just sneak in, if they surpass expectations). The first half we saw some good offense and hot shooting. Second half was just a disaster. On the positive side, I think Lin still had a very good performance throughout the game and was easily our best player. It was good to see him take & hit some 3s with confidence.
Justin Hamilton is a good offensive threat for a bench player but his defense is just awful. It says a lot when Scola at 36 can do a better job defensively. CMC and Bennett are almost lost causes unless there is dramatic improvement. In fairness to Bennett, he looked decent on the offensive end today but he's still very limited with his size (he isn't a big and he isn't a SF either). On the other hand, CMC has the height and length but somehow looks even more lost out there. Trevor Booker worryingly reminded me of Thomas Robinson tonight. I know that he's a much better player than Robinson and tonight wasn't his usual but he needs to offer more on offense. I was happy with what I saw from Scola today, he's such an intelligent player who can still ball at 36 despite not being much of an athlete.
RHJ has been disappointing during this preseason. He has shown some glimpses of his talent and I think his ability to put the ball on the floor & create separation has definitely improved. But it doesn't mean much when he's missing all of those shots. I think he probably has been asked by Atkinson to show what he c an do to create his own offense (it is preseason). It's not doing much good though. Lastly, Isaiah Whitehead was embarrassingly bad today, even for preseason. He definitely has NBA ready body/athleticism but his IQ is non existent and he can't shoot consistently either. I guess I should have known better, this is a guy who couldn't even shoot 40% in college. I think he should be sent down to the D-league, along with CMC. If I had to predict, I would say neither of them will be in the NBA for long.

Re: Preseason Hoops: NETS @ HEAT - Tuesday, 7:30pm NBA
My main take away from preseason so far is that Marks had a pretty good off season. I'd say Harris and Hamilton, Scols, Booker and Lin have already proven to be good pick ups. That's a pretty good haul for one off season already.
Atkinson is taking a very Spurs like approach. They are trying to get a sense of what value they have at the end of the bench. I'm fine with that. They will have the regular season to fine tune Brook/Lin and other rotation players.

He was poor today but I think he'll be fine long term. He has a great motor and he has been a very solid defender over his career. His finishing was really bad today but I think today was more of a one-off.Net Sentence wrote:Booker shot 2-7 today despite not taking a shot outside of 8 feet from the basket.

Been stating this for a while, specially not starting Booker since RHJ is a lock...but to be frank, I think Booker has been impacting the game defensively much more than RHJ.
If it was fair competition, Harris should be starting ahead of RHJ.
I'm bvery intrigued with an all offense or should I say, an all-3PT shooter starting line up of:
Lin/Bogs/Harris/Hamilton/Lopez....OR.....Lin/Bogs/Harris/Scola/Lopez.
That should be great 3PT shooting team looking to spread the floor and out score team...Would not be great defensively, but we'd score a lot...try to do what D'Antoni does which is out-score everybody by killing and demoralizing them with 3PT shooting.
In this case, your best defense is your great offense.
