you literally can ask this about a few players on this team, but this guy especially. Marks has assembled a group with high upside without the use of a top 10 draft pick. crazy.

I do have to wonder a bit if the system is at play here a little. Kenny talked about Acy's role, and when we go small, it really opens up the offense for a PG to drive in. Let's not forget this is the same system that created Linsanity. Not to diminish what Spencer has done obviously, but this is a very guard friendly system

The system is guard friendly and we get excellent spacing, agreed. Still, a player has to execute, take care of the ball, etc. Plus he's making some seriously huge plays...that isn't a case of the system, thats all Spencer.

Definitely but this might be one of those things where he is more valuable to us vs others. As well as he's played, he may not be able to find that success in another teams system that is more clogged inside and/or doesn't have shooters like we do.

Well yeah that's normal imo, unless you're a superstar talent, most guys success or fit on an NBA team depend on what system they are in. Unless your GM is a moron like Billy King that just throws a bunch of players together with no rhyme or reason, most teams go after players that fit their scheme.

I'll say this though, I remember Spencer's D League footage. He was destroying people, hitting threes, making solid passes, getting to the rim, etc. This year, he's been looking a lot like the dude that was on those tapes killing scrubs, and not like the nervous and scared PG that he was when he first got here.

Linsanity was the PG-centric PnR heavy D'Antoni system. Kenny's is more a motion offense. I think Lin created Linsanity to stay in the NBA. But I'd agree that he had the right ingredients to operate in.

Spencer had to become the chief facilitator on the team and the closer. And he did it remarkably with few turnovers. He gets more now because he drives more. Plus he's scouted more and the D has been turned up on him. But, he's been very, very impressive.

IMO, he wanted to stay in the league so he was ultra-careful and yeah, looked deer in headlights a lot of the time. But there were flashes of today's Spencer. When put in the position of, there's no Lin, there's no DLo, you the man now he stepped up. Big. Now he's a force, scouted, and is a huge factor in making almost every Nets game, win or lose, highly competitive.

He’s a taller version of Andre Miller.

That's some high praise, and definitely well deserved.

If that's the case it's another genius level move by Marks (assuming he knew how to cap himself). Either Dinwiddie decides to stay and take an enormously team friendly deal or they trade him at the deadline next year for a 1st round pick+. No lose situation, though hopefully he's fully bought in and wants to stay here long term.

I doubt Dinwiddie will accept that extension unless he's extremely risk-averse. He'll likely bet on his health & wait until he hits free agency.

This assumes that Dinwiddie doesn't refuse the extension and bets on himself, correct?

Here's to Spencer wanting to stay here and being happy that he'll be signing for 11 mil per season as opposed to the alternative had the Nets never picked him up

Will Spencer be an Unrestricted FA in 2019 or a RFA?

I won't blame dude if he wants to get paid but damn. 11 mil per season is some good salary but if his production increases even more next year he'd be a fool not to offer his services on the open market.

From D-League to getting that money. I'm happy for the guy either way.
