Good, so let's max him out so Pistons have to pay him and they can be in cap hell.

best news all weekend... one of my top 3 fears... if not #1 was us singing KCP to a huge deal. hope this is true and not just them trying to scare people off

Yup, and the next thing we need to hear is that WAS will do the same with Otto Porter.

Marks has done a good job with the rebuild thus far but while offering Tyler his contract would've been a good move, Crabbe's contract would've been a bad move.

I don't mind having one overpaid max/near-max player on the team (e.g. Lopez), but having both Lopez and Porter making $45+ mil combined is investing a lot of money into two players who don't make enough of a difference.

While Lin is essentially underpaid at $12mil/season, those are the type of smart contracts we need if Kenny seriously wants to do this 8-10 man rotation where the best players get at 32mpg at most. We essentially need multiple Lin-level contracts for players with about the same level of impact he has. When you start paying guys who are at that level of impact 2x that amount, you quickly accelerate towards capping yourselves out and stunting your growth.

This year was a great first start but in order to continue the holistic growth of the team, we need smart cap management. Overpaying more than 1 player by giving them $18+mil/season contracts would work against the rebuilding process that we've started.

Milsap is not coming to the damn Nets

Hmm what happened? He talk mad **** about the Nets or something?

Allen Crabbe just laid a massive egg for POR in game 1 of the playoffs. Assuming he plays none too well the rest of the way, i think he'd be the PERFECT buy low candidate for the team. POR might be so disgusted with him at his performance that they'd be willing to dump him for nickels on the dollar.

Assuming Porter is matched, Hill/Milsap goes elsewhere, KCP's price tag is too obscene, other options arent very enticing. If POR gets bounced hard in part cuz of Crabbe disappearing due to playoff defensive pressure. Why not take a chance on him and try to develop and open up his game? They also have a big man glut at C with Nurkic and Meyers holding it down and Ed Davis having no spot to play in. Davis missed a chunk of the season due to shoulder arthospoic surgery so if things are progressing nicely on that front, why not grab him too to play behind BroLo. Davis is a low post, PnR big specialist, who can defend the rim with his length and athleticism, however he's skinny as a beanpole so he gets shoved around easily by stouter players.

POR trades
Allen Crabbe
Ed Davis
Prot 1st Round Pick

BRK trades
JHam
KJ McDaniels

POR drops 19 mil in salary to get under the lux tax and get back a dirt cheap stretch 4/5 and a raw athletic scoring wing.

BRK gets a wing who can shoot 3s at an elite rate, his D and other facets of the game is very lackingbut ive faith Kenny can do something about it, hence why they targeted him in the 1st place.

I know Crabbe isnt a hot product right now, but i think the best move is to go after undervalued assets and see what u can do.

Or trade for Melo :P

Ed Davis had a real connection with lin on pick and roll, during their time at the lakers. He is also a defensive rim protector. They played so well together that the tanking lakers had to break up that combo. How is Ed Davis doing with the blazers? Looks like a + for lin's skill set. Davis + Crabbe .

If Utah beats LAC, I can see them resigning Hill and Hayward (thanks Joe).

Keeping us from signing hill and keeping Hayward away from Boston.

I really think milos is the only guy we target, and perhaps we swing a deal for Crabbe.

at this point, Portland can seriously keep their trash. They wanted Crabbe so bad last year, they can eat that contract.

Don't see a Crabbe deal as likely unless picks are involved and it gets murky cause a trade can't be completed for weeks after the draft. Although teams never go back on deals, it makes follow up trades awkward. Also, doesn't seem likely Marks has the same love for Crabbe after this season, imho.

Crabbe only took 5 shots, so I wouldn't come down too much on him...and I truly believed he'd be a much more valuable player with Brooklyn, so we can't extrapolate how he's currently playing with the Blazers and say he'd play the same way with Brooklyn....

With Brooklyn, Crabbe would have much more room to insert himself and get plenty of shots, something he can't do with Lillard and McCollough dominating the ball and jacking off more than 50% of all Blazers shots..Still managing 10ppg for the season is a great accomplishment for Crabbe.

Also, keep in mind Crabbe still shot 44% from the 3point arc, so I just don't understand why so many people on here think he's trash.....Crabbe is still a bad contract for Portland because they really don't have room to let him shoot, but I don't think he would have been a bad contract for Brooklyn....Replacing Foye with Crabbe would had made this team so much better.

Why though?

Reddick is good and plays some above average defense, but cannot assuming point guard duties if needed and that seems to be what Kenny wants in a 2guard.

I wonder if that was more a function of the lack of depth we had for most of the season since Lin was injured most of the time. I think we're in a good place in so far as PG depth right now (with room for improvement of course). Right now we've got Lin, DInwiddie, Whitehead, Goodwin, and Kilpatrick if we're in a real bind at the 1.

Could someone post a breakdown? I'd love to hear their reflection on the season & hints towards their current plan of action.

This offseason

Post#393 » by Paradise » Mon Apr 17, 2017 4:04 pm

- Kenny, Sean and Prok will be scouting European talent during the euroleague playoffs this week in Moscow.

-Marks says Teodosic is a terrific player but will be scouting others players and teams.

- He isn't sure if we will trade up or even look at a first round stash. All opens are open based off our record. "Where we stand, it'd be silly for us to say we only need one player."

- Marks on Caris: "After his draft interview we said 'thats a Brooklyn Net, right there.' He epitomized everything we wanted."

- Kenny praised Whitehead's toughness and says his catch and shoot has improved. Wants Isaiah to improve off the dribble.

- Both praised the duties of Randy Foye and Luis Scola of being mentors. Wished them well.

- Marks on Brook: "He's one of the elite centers in the league." he's conditioned and adapted his game to a new system.".

Biggest takeaways:

- Sean Marks wants CLV to be the face of the Nets.
- Praised Brook's transformation into a shooter but non committal on his future.
- They want more veterans that can blend with the youth. (George Hill? Patty Mills?).

Jj still fits the system imo. I'd love this idea of prokorov. I'll be happy if we can get him 10 mill a year most likely more

Max contracts for Porter and KCP is 25% of cap or $25 million. Covington was a D-league player not too long ago. I'm not paying any of these guys anywhere near that (Crabbe at $18 million was already was pushing it). Personally, I believe we can easily develop guys into these b tier potential players.

Going into next season, our roster currently contains four 22-year-olds. Another three, not much older, with only 2 years of experience (one Korver-lite). We are going to have 2-3 young picks coming in.

We should continue to build on these amazing contracts:
Lopez $22 Million (Max $30 Mil) *Only debate is future fit
Lin $12 Million (Max $30 Mil)
Acy $1.7 Million (Max $25 Mil)

Booker and Kilpatrick are both tradable. Roster spot is a non-issue.

Last offseason was bad, but we lucked out with Lin. This offseason just may be easier. Go max with true stars and toss out $10-$15 million to players who believes they never had to chance to prove themselves. I’ll take the players who truly wants to be here.

Nets have been really preaching internal development. So, aside from 2 rookies and the possibility we stash one (Kurucs). I think we will bring back most of the 9-10 men already here but if good offers turn up they will explore a bigger move.

Even though they'll obviously have a full big board, I still get the feeling they're going to have a few top targets and will try their best to move up into the early to mid teens and nab one of these guys.

This is huge news IMO:

Marks would not speculate how big of a role European free agents would play, compared to restricted and unrestricted free agents, but noted that the organization doesn’t want to get stuck with a big payroll.

"You don't want to sign free agents (to big contracts) and then your pay roll is capped out and you're a 25 win team,” said Marks,

via http://www.netsdaily.com/2017/4/17/15327834/nets-looking-to-europe-in-a-big-way

I guess (and really hope) that Marks means what he says. If it took last year's failure in free agency to realize it, good.

I shudder at the idea of capping ourselves out and having little flexibility in the next few years. I expect that this means no to KCP and Porter.

I think that means he won't be spending it on just anybody. Porter would be fine. I expect them to sign someone to an offer sheet and he's clearly the best all around guy. Even if we don't land him. I think they've moved on from the idea of pursuing KCP, Mohammed, etc. Those free agents. If they spend it would be for someone who can flat out improve our win total.

You hear that? Mark wants balance. He wants a vet. We're targeting Paul Millsap.

Spoiler:
Randy Foye walks through the door. "I'm back."
