Kilpatrick benched because of his defense. I think Russell should come off from bench and after he improve his defense, than he will be a starter.

For my opinion, whitehead is much better than Russell on defense and improved offense at the end of the season. Someone say Russell is young and will improve, yes.. but we need win games and Russell is suitable as a 6th man now, he can learn from lin, whitehead, after he improve his personal defense ability and team defense mind, he will be great .. but not now , we need win games....

This team needs to win games? You think this team will make the playoffs? Russell is the future of this team. Also, Russell is not a bad defender, his rank is so low because the Lakers as a whole were a bad defensive team.

Next, this team should not sign JJ Reddick, not worth the money. He is old, and won't help this team for the future. Plus if you go by defensive rating, his rating is also bad. Reddick's defensive rating is 112, and Russell is 113. Not big of a difference.

Russell's defensive box plus-minus is -1.6, Reddick's defensive box plus-minus is -2.1. If you want to say Russell should be a 6th man because of some random numbers that you probably don't understand, next time check the other player's numbers.

I also think the Nets would be better off not signing Ridick for the $15+M that I hear he'll be asking....Should simply stick to Russell/Lin back court and try to sign Otto and a stretch 4 to push RHJ to the bench.

As for Russell, he's slow footed and will give up tons of penetration..Definately worse than Lin when it comes to keeping PG in front of him..The good news is that if Lin starts beside Russ, Russ can simply guard opposition SG and won't have to worry guarding the quicker PG's.

Highly doubtful. A Lin fan wouldn't predict bad record for his team.

From that GB thread I dug up, there were plenty of fans of different teams that didn't like DRuss. C'est la vie. No need to blame.

not liking Dlo is one thing. making absurd delusional comments because he is linsecure is not the same thing.

saying a #2 pick who posted 15/5/4 at 20 years old will be out of the league is not an opinion, its a delusion

Lopez is the worst rebounding center in the league. Mozgov gave nearly the same output in 10 less minutes.

lopez had 5.5 in 30 minutes, mozgov 5 in 20 minutes.

lopez ibroke the record for least rebounds by a starting 7 footer in NBA history this past season and had just a 9.8 TRB%

Russell being poor defensively is EXACTLY why he should start/play big minutes.... he isnt going to improve sitting on the bench,

RHJ was a TERRIBLE ball handler. what did kenny do? played him tons and encouraged him to handle the ball. and he improved quite a bit.

the goal here isnt to win, its to improve these young guys and there is no substiture for live in game competition

I think reddick is a great piece for this teams future.... we need to evolve the offense and get young guys in space an you wont do that without elite shooters. we took the 3rd most threes i think but were near the bottom in percentage and outside of joe harris who spent most of his time fighting injuries we dont have anyone who can shoot coming off screens(alhtough dlo can now too).

You put reddick in this offense and teams now need to respect those off ball screens setting up 3 point shots and are forced to switch, trap, or show. that sets it all in mootion and i think there is tons of value in these young guys seeing how that all comes together and benefitting from the space

Mozgoz was not a "terrible" rebounder. His specialty is tapping the rebound back out to the guards. Could have added at least 2 rebounds a game if not for that.

Lopez averaged 5 rebounds per 30 minutes, there's no way Mosgov can be much worse than that.

Even then, that's not the big picture here, if he boxes out properly or tips the ball for other players to get board ala Zaza in the Finals then it's all good.

Just to add to Proks point. Russell thrived having Young as a target last year. He found him time and time again coming off screens and as a result Young had one of his better seasons. Having Reddick in that role could really benefit the Nets, Russell/Reddick.

Foye didn't start last year because of his defense, it was because he was a veteran that could handle the ball. The coach likes two ball handlers in the backcourt.

Regardless, the idea that Russell, who is a 15/5/4 player and growing should learn from Lin, Whitehead, or play behind either of them is so goddamn out of lockstep with reality that I'll just stop here. I know what this is about.

Remember, we had this same argument during the season when guys wanted RHJ and Whitehead benched or sent to the d league. Your words will be twisted into "The Nets aren't concerned about winning games", which isn't remotely true.

The goal is to develop, learn, and compete every night, same as last year. winning is the bonus. Playing time for the young guys will not be sacrificed just to win 30 games. Russell will not be riding pine just to fulfill this fantasy that Jeremy Lin makes teams playoff contenders. Also, if the goal is to win games, as the poster stated, then why would we bench Russell? The team just traded a 20 point scorer away, the idea that Russell shouldn't play when he will probably be dropping 23 pts in this offense with ease is ludicrous.

Read the tea leaves...most likely, someone who is calling for Russell to be benched is more than likely insecure about Russell joining the team and how that pertains to Jeremy Lin's starting job. That's all certain people care about when it comes to whether or not Russell should start.

Don't worry. The people who are suggesting Russell be given a lesser role are doing so out of spite and making a big deal out of nothing. Priorities are elsewhere with them. Russell could end up on the bench if he doesn't play well, but that isn't even the argument they're making. Their arguments revolve around pettiness and anger. They aren't net fans, and theyre mad their movie wont have a perfect ending. Its kinda weird.

I would have Reddick on this team, but how much money are we willing to give a guy that is 33, and how many years? If we give him a 4 year contract, we'll be paying him until he is 37. I believe Sean Marks should continue going after undervalued players, and maybe they can find a real gem doing that.

Also, who would you start/bench? We have Lin/Russell/Reddick?
