I think that rumor is horse ****. Ainge is going to attempt to screw Demps up his cornhole. If I'm the Celtics I'm not offering that much either. New Orleans has zero leverage right now, the deadline just passed.

Rondo with the buzzer beater against his former team. That crowd was not happy.

The only perplexing thing about this wonderful, joyous, life affirming Laker suffering is that it's potentially Boston's gain. It's pick your poison. Do you want a potential Lakers dynasty or a potential Celtics dynasty?

I think the silver lining is that the Suns (if I'm not mistaken) took on salary that kind of limits what they can offer.

Not that well low ball Russel, but this certainly helps negotiating with him as I think they were the #1 threat

I've got them roughly around 25M after the Tyler Johnson deal and minimum roster cap holds. Not sure if they have draft picks, if they do it cuts further in to that $25.

That's slightly below the max for Russell. which is good for us.

If the Suns waive and stretch Johnson (they also could use the MIL 2020 1st to dump his contract completely), rescind their all free agents (Oubre, Holmes, Daniels and Bender) and keep their 2019 1st (assuming it will be #4) they will have $30M of cap space.

I didn't factor Oubre and other FA cap holds in that $25M figure, but sure they can get $30M by stretching Johnson. But the point is they have to jump more hoops now before the Johnson trade if they want Russell.

And that's what we are hoping for.

Honestly, i dont even think Russell will consider another team. And I dont think the Nets will hesitate to give him a huge deal. i think they will have this worked out weeks before FA even begins. similar to joe harris

The way it's going yeah, I think it would be beneficial to both sides to have a deal like this in place.

Brooklyn under Marks has historically done right by players, but this is still a business (there's a recent quote by Russell saying he understands it's a business that's gone rather unnoticed)

Bobby Portis is salty as hell towards the Bulls on Twitter. Fun to watch.

He had himself a game. It would be funny if Washington dumped Porter only to see Marks issue an offer sheet to Portis.

At this rate, we may have to. We need a PF that can do what Portis does on both ends. He would be a good system fit

Same. I was initially impressed with the ballsiness & commitment of his Lakers experiment, but somewhere along the line it got annoying, and now it's pretty much worthy of straight-mocking.

Too much dirty laundry, hurt feelings, and awkward reversals for my taste. Should have kept 99% of that stuff on the QT. I mean they already had a loose cannon in Lavar Ball and too much national scrutiny as it was. Easier said than done of course, but still... it truly is a bona fide sh-tshow.

Side note-- searching the dank caverns of my memory, I'm struggling hard to find an athlete (maybe even a single person in history?) who's come close to provoking such a crazy gamut of hot takes from myself, such as LeBron has provoked. Like, in roughly this order-- respect, awe, derision, contempt, astonishment, deep appreciation, shock, friendly respect, fatigue, & now schadenfreude.

Kinda just... wow.

.

re: Unibrow - Pelicans,
Damn. I hate the fact that the league gets to push NOL around like this, forcing them to play the dude. Because, considering that there's absolutely zero future with AD, IMO they have every right to move on and give his minutes to other players if they want to. Hopefully developing players, whoever they got.

AD wasn't wrong to request a trade, but by doing so in the middle of the season, he, his agent & the league should realise that he put them in an almost impossible situation, and at this point they owe him nothing more than the terms of his contract, which are incredibly lavish by any reasonable standard, of course.

As usual, it's the fans and the local area in question who are the real losers in these situations. :/

Man I know Sacto is doing good this year and may lock up the 8 seed, but they just can't stay out of their own way. Pass on Doncic the Gawd for Bagley and then pass on a Bagley for Zingis swap? I don't even love Zingis, simply because I fear he's going to be injury prone his whole career like Yao Ming and I like Bagley more than most, but Idk man...

Just leaving these here for those of you that are into gambling and are intrigued by the way the NBA managed to sweep the Tim Donaghy game fixing scandal under the rug:

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/252712/Tim-Donaghy-Privately-Admits-To-Fixing-NBA-Games

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/252713/FBI-Agent-Regrets-Involving-NBA-In-Tim-Donaghy-Probe-At-Early-Juncture

Phil Scala, a former FBI agent that worked on the Tim Donaghy case, regrets briefing David Stern, Adam Silver, Joel Litvin and Bernie Tolbert on June 21st, 2007 about one of their referees betting on his own game and giving inside information to a gambling ring. The NBA was not told about potential game-fixing.

Scala recounts Stern mostly being upset that the NBA's in-house security didn't discover Donaghy's wrongdoing prior to the FBI.

The feds had planned on using Donaghy as an informant and to get other allegedly corrupt referees to incriminate themselves. But the probe leaked to the New York Post.

"If you're going to ask me if I would do it differently now, the answer is yes. I would not have gone to brief Stern," Scala said.

"Our plans were blown up by the fact that somebody leaked this," Scala lamented to me. "I don't like to talk in terms of coulda, woulda, shoulda, but if the Post story didn't come out, [Donaghy] would have worn a wire, and I don't know where it would have gone.

Always something to think about, especially with as many times as the current incarnation of the Nets have been royally screwed by refs late in games over the last 24 months.
