Kyrie Wants Out
Everyone loves to paint Kyrie as the bad guy here but I do believe he had no patience anymore outside of this contract situation with Ben Simmons. This constant knee soreness situation is going to be a huge issue going forward because he’s lost the trust of some of his teammates.
This trade should wake his ass up more than anything. I’m not sure he makes it past the deadline right now the way it’s being reported.

Tough call. KD, Clax and Dinwiddie are the locks. Two of Simmons, DFS, Royce and Harris would be the others. My gut says Royce is one. DFS will probably be the other eventually. All of a sudden we have a lot of defensive 3/4s. It wouldn't surprise me if one gets moved for a guard upgrade.

Simmons
Spencer
DFS
KD
Claxton
Have fun trying to score on that group.
One more trade.
Crowder would be a solid addition too. DFS is going to be a great addition.

You're correct about it being down to Benjamin
Just not Benjamin Simmons
Kyrie had a dummy spit about not getting guaranteed $ - nothing more, nothing less

Nope. He indirectly has called him out multiple times and suddenly JV has done the same lately.
He wanted to be here because it’s his hometown but outside of that, Ben isn’t rubbing guys the right way with these random injuries while barely contributing.

Good trade for us
IF HEALTHY, this team could be a defensive monster
Last year, the Mavs were a top 10 defence in spite of having Luka & Brunson in the lineup

Re: Kyrie Wants Out
Adios Kyrie, it just wasn't meant to be.
I don't hate the trade or anything, it's not like we traded Kyrie for Westbrook but I feel indifferent at the moment. There's too many question marks remaining on this team's direction for me to feel fully bought in.
- KD had to have signed off on this trade right? I would certainly think so but with Marks in charge I'm definitely not comfortable in saying so. This trade only makes sense to me if KD's guaranteed he's bought in on the Nets for the duration of his contract.
- Right now we still have a roster that is capped out, with no picks and filled with veteran role players, definitely not the building blocks of a rebuild. If KD does ask out the only conceivable direction would be to replace him with a lesser star and continue to try and contend, Tsai would be looking for a Siakam type player as a return and we will be firmly stuck on the treadmill for years. Yeah and now KD's trade value has cratered given his friend Kyrie is gone, and the Nets are locked into this roster.
- Nice to have Din back but looking at him in a Nets uniform now is a constant reminder of our incompetent management, you let Din walk for nothing 1 offseason ago and now you have to trade Kyrie to get him back.
It feels to me this trade is a Marks special. The return seems respectable on the surface, but dig deeper and you'll find the trade is totally reactionary and he knows about as much about what our roster will look like in 6 months time as we do.

Ben definitely is an issue for the team moving forward, but Kyrie should be the last person to lose his patience over a teammate's availability.

Re: Kyrie Wants Out
the biggest issue with the nets now is that every single egg is in the KD basket for the playoffs.
there is absolutely no way they can generate any good look from anyone else in playoff half court settings.
then teams will double and make KD give up the ball and will let spencer, harris, seth, etc go for theirs and live with the results. can they score enough to win a 7 game series? right now i would say no. guys benefitted being catch and shoot guys with all the attention kyrie brings - that's going to change now and role players are going to be asked to do more.
this will require alot of offense restructuring to implement a ton more ball movement which is really tough to do mid stream.
the payoff may not actually be seen until next season with another move or two this summer. if there's any way ben can revert to 2019 form, then that's a different story but that's basically a 0% chance of happening.

Re: Kyrie Wants Out
Ben's going to be a big issue for us. He could only play effectively when both KD AND Kyrie were on the court, in that they didn't need him to do anything but get the rebound and bring the ball across halfcourt then get out the way.
Our roster fit right now feels off, too many non shooters, too many one dimensional shooters who can't create their own shot, it could still work but again we are placing way too much on KD's shoulders to make everything work. How long will KD be happy doing that? He probably doesn't even know.
Also Cam now needs to get at least 25mpg, we need his shot creation.

Re: Kyrie Wants Out
So I looked up future free agents and the 2025 free agent market is HUGE ! Alot of star FAs that summer and that is when Ben Simmons expire. Not sure how great KD will be but we should have extended Claxton by then. The 2024 FA market is not so great but a few star guys like Jaylen Brown, KP, Sabonis, Siakam and OG will be available.

Something that caught my eye; as crazy as this sounds, Harden WILL most likely opt out? Does he think about reuniting with KD? Could that be a possibility? The depth chart on this team is crazy good and would fit perfectly around a KD/Harden duo.

I don't think that the team is finished trading yet.

Probably the second best wing defender in the league behind Bridges in Phoenix. Perfect type of defender to put on Tatum, Brown.
I watched their last game as a Mav against the Warriors last night and he looks really, really good defensively.
Idk if it’s bitterness or what but some of the Mavs fans don’t think much of his defense
mavsfanarkuo wrote:The drop off in defense is overblown. Spence couldn't defend a traffic cone and DFS' defense is okay but not All NBA great. People need to chill when referring to DFS' defense. He's not locking down anyone.

DFS has faced Kawhi in two playoff series and has made Andrew Wiggins revive his career last year. He didnt make a dent.
So if it was a choice between Kyrie and DFS locking someone up, I'd take the All NBA talent 10 times out of 10.

The silence from KD is deafening......
I still think the big wild card for us is if we can get Ben back to close to where he was. He is still a long way away though.

Re: Kyrie Wants Out
Thoughts on something around Ben for Demar?
Din
Demar
DFS
KD
Claxton
With O'Neale, Curry, Harris, Warren, and Yuta off the bench.
Is that a better team? DeRozan is a level below Kyrie but he might be a better compliment to KD adding a different dynamic to the offense as someone that drives and consistently draws fouls. He's also a solid playmaker. Defensively, that is a very switchable starting five. Din and DeRozan are not great defenders but they're wings and can at least match up with Tatum, Brown, Middleton, etc.

This trade should wake his ass up more than anything. I’m not sure he makes it past the deadline right now the way it’s being reported.
He had Kevin Durant coming back in a week.
Why does Ben Simmons even matter?
They had enough to contend easily.

Im surprised so many are assuming KD wants to stick around now.
I wouldn't be surprised if this leads to a total tear down and KD is moved before the deadline and if they can get rid or Simmons possibly him too.
KD already requested a trade before...I'm not sure why this would not reignite that desire.
