i actually like the prudential center a lot. it really depends on how much more progress the city of newark can make, it could turn out to be a lot better than expected if they stay there.

They aren't staying there. It isn't a possibility what so ever anymore unless Brooklyn is attacked by a large hydrogen bomb...

The Knicks and Nets continue to trade insults.

The two clubs will face off on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Knicks recently released a radio ad tweaking the Nets, stating "Hey Nets. You can walk like us, you can talk like us, but you ain't never gonna be like us."

Just hours before the game, Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov responded to the radio spot.

"I don't think we want to be like the Knicks. I think we'd more like to resemble the Lakers," he said in a statement.

How is there not a thread about Prokhorov's SWAG on the Nets board?

Forces the Knicks hand, then turns around and gets us a top 5 true superstar player in the NBA.

Also, Billy King isn't getting enough props also, for all the hate this man gets, he deserves credit in this endeavor. Prokhorov was heli-skiing in British Columbia when he heard this news.

First serious gesture from Mik was meeting Dwill in SA...

IMO, the impression Mik and company makes on Deron in their London meeting could be the first most important factor with Dwill's year and a 1/2 decision process of where he wants to play and live come 2012-13...there are so many other variables that probably has him currently upside down and inside out right now (his recent Nets schedule, media interest and a nagging injury)...The culture change (and or shock) from Utah to NJ as well as adjusting and fitting in with his new teammates has just begun...

But I truly hope Mik can plant a seed in DWill's mind and start the growth of Deron's thought process in regards to his Nets future...We want him to feel comfortable here as much as we want him to be focused on the role he plays with who the Nets become...

Mik has done a great job (along with Billy), in consistenly talking about a championship when speaking to the public...the concept of buidling a team starts now and I hope Deron is as interested in this future today as much as we are...

Anyone else respect the fact that Mik is making Deron a priority without slobbering all over him and seeming desperate? I think that's a very smart tactic especially if you look at the way Cleveland tried to keep Lebron compared to Riley's approach, which actually got inside of Lebron's head with the #23 stuff and championship rings.

I know most here hate the idea of losing the "Nets", and have expressed that they will stop following if the team changed names. However, with Sacramento possibly losing its team to Anaheim, it is possible they will change their name due to the presence of the Los Angeles Kings. I would think they want to separate themselves as far as possible from that franchise due to the name.

So, if Sacramento/Anaheim decides to ditch the moniker of the "Kings", would it be possible for the Brooklyn franchise to pick it up?

I seem to remember that "Brooklyn Kings" were one of the top choice in some poll before. If that was to happen, would you be pro/against the name change?

I honestly think you have to wait and see how you feel. Losing a team is like losing a close relative. A lot of people react differently to those situations. Some people who thought they would be ok actually turn out to be really depressed and sad and those who think they would be extremely pissed off end up being relatively at peace with it. I can't say for sure what will happen to me but I feel like I need to attach myself to a team and root for them.

When people change their first names, it's not that bad because you can still identify them by their last name/family name. If you change New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn Nets it's not that bad. But when you change you're entire name it feels like you're disassociating yourself from your family and are completely taking on a new persona. Changing the words Nets is like changing your last name and disassociating yourself from your family/fan base. The family/fan base can be pretty hurt by that especially if you leave in a controversial way. It's a tough situation no matter what.

Arena a Month Ahead of Schedule

The latest analysis of progress at the Barclays Center construction site shows the arena is now a full month ahead of schedule. The transit connection which will link nine subway lines and the Long Island railroad to the arena's front door is two months ahead of schedule.
The analysis is updated monthly by a consultant who works for the projects' bond holders and is used to disburse funds for construction. The new timetable is not expected to change the grand opening of the arena, scheduled for September 28, 2012. With fewer major construction projects underway in the city, there's plenty of material and labor available, often speeding up progress. The New Meadowlands Stadium was completed four months early.
Norman Oder, the critic and chronicler of Atlantic Yards, also points out a new line item in the consultant's report: "$2,928--a relatively small sum--for a 'Hockey Sightline Study'." Arena officials have said in the past that poor sightlines as well as small capacity hurts the arena's chances of attracting anything other than college hockey to Brooklyn.

CORRECTION: Yormark: Nets to unveil new name in next few months (not weeks), says he "likes" Brooklyn Nets
BY STEFAN BONDY

Brett Yormark said the Nets will announce the team’s new name in the next few weeks few months (misunderstanding at a noisy construction site) and, if the CEO had his preference, it will be the Brooklyn Nets.

Not like that’s a surprise. In the artist’s renderings of the Barclays Center’s inside, “Brooklyn Nets” is written on both ends of the court. In an interview this morning at the construction site – which is coming along swiftly and impressively, by the way --Yormark referred to the team as “Brooklyn Nets” on more than one occasion. He said it’s the name he “likes.”

(And let’s face it, the preference of the man in charge of marketing is a big indication of where this is headed. It’s bad practice to pull a reversal on sponsors)

Despite signs that the Brooklyn Nets will be the name, Yormark said it’s still just a running title. But I’ll guess that’s because it hasn’t gone through the league’s approval process.

No matter what the reincarnated Nets call themselves, Yormark said “Brooklyn” will be in the title. So you can forget the New York Nets, which the team trademarked, according to NetsDaily.

Although New York Nets is an interesting affront to the Knicks, in the end, Brooklyn Nets is the way to go.

Yormark said tickets for premium seats go on sale June 2, and regular season tickets for 2012-13 will go on sale in the fall. Based on the waiting list, he expects tickets to move quickly.

I'm mad that the nets are leaving New Jersey, it pisses me off because i go out to games now when they are bad. Once they leave they are gonna be on the up and up and i wont be able to see them in the playoffs or anything. But then again i did go to the Nets vs. Bulls game and Brooke Lopez was Boo'd at the foul line, so the player are probably happy to get out.
