I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. Look at Griffin's freshman year, he wasn't nearly the player he transformed to in his sophomore season. He wasn't considered higher then maybe 6 to 8th after his freshman year at best. He's also not half the defender either Favors or Cousins is.

That's not really true. His man defense potential is up there with both of them (maybe Cousins has more since he has the size to really anchor a defense), but Favors' shotblocking potential is much greater than Griffin's is. So, perhaps Cousins and Favors' help defense will be better, but I think their man defense will be about the same.

As for the actual trade itself: Yi and 3rd for Griffin.

The Clippers would have to add more. Not a large asset, but a little bit more.

Crazy talk. If the doctors clear Griffin, you give up #3 and more for him in a heartbeat. No way the Clippers give him up though. He'll be the face of that franchise.

Chad Ford: 76ers shopping No.2 pick?
Asking price: taking on Brand's contract.

^Really. That's...interesting. If that's the case, then I think the Mavs should jump on that. Trade the Dampier "DUST" contract, get Evan Turner.

That is very interesting. I think a lot of moves can possibly be made in the Lotto this year. I wonder though if they'd take Turner though. I would think they'd want a big man of the future. Someone that isn't so much like Dirk. I would think they'd really be interested in Cousins or Favors. They have time to let them grow, yet you know they can contribute in doses on that team.

Of course this is my illogically thinking about Turner falling to us so take my comment with a grain of salt

They have Jrue and Lou. I can't see them biting on that.

I think Philly would expect us to include the 3rd pick in any deal for the 2nd pick even if we take Brand back.

With Cousins' measurements today, I think I have renewed hope that Turner might very well fall to us.

I disagree jeff.

The point is for them to get rid of the disgusting contract that will haunt them for years.

I'm not including anything in trading for Brand at all. Unless they give us every single peaces they have, #2, Jrue, Spreights (?), Young, even then i think twice, that Brand contract is ridiculous.

I agree with SIC, Brand's contract is ridiculous and no one will take it unless, they give the 2nd pick for free. This might be interesting for us though. Porky really wants to win, and we can use his money to do something about it. If we take brand's contract, is there a way to waive it? I really don't know how releasing a player works. Does anyone know?

You can buy him out, in which case the money that you agree with the player to will be divided up by the years left on the contract. Since Brand has 3 years, 51 million left, a buyout would be probably for at least 45 million (If I were Brand, I wouldn't take a buyout), the money would be divided up for 15 million against the cap for the next three years. This also depends upon how Brand's contract distributes the money, as well, but that is the general basis for how a buyout works.

Honestly, a buyout would be unreasonable until next year.

I see, does it effect our salary cap though if we do that?

We lose whatever amount that he agrees to, divided by three, against the cap. 45/3=15 million. 50/3=16.67 million.

A buyout isn't a realistic option. The amount of money you'd need to offer Brand to entice him into accepting a buyout would be high enough to ensure that we wouldn't actually save any cap room. You'd be better off keeping him than buying him out to clear something like $3 million in cap space.

What's up new Jersey? I love the new owner, and I love the idea of a global team headquartered in the tri state area.

I also think that you guys have a bright future on the court. The lottery broke badly for you, but there are going to be a lot of teams making great offers for the #3 pick because Cousins is such a stud prospect. You could also keep the pick and play him next to Lopez.

Though this is down the line, I see a huge competitive advantage for you all, as the new owner has such a pipeline of connections with his old Russian team (that was euro loeague champs). Much like the Spurs were able to find international gems late in the first and early in the second, I think that a few years down the road that the Nets (or whatever they are called) are going to be buying up late first and second round picks (like theBlazers have done in recent years), drafting super young international guys, and developing them oversees. While any team could theoretically do this even now, Prohkerovs (sp?) deep deep pockets, euroleague connections, and international fan base are going to tip the scales in your favor. I predict (I know he is Spanish but still) down the road there will be Ricky Rubio like prospects (from Russia, Croatia, etc) who will basically tell NBA teams that they will ONLY play for the Nets.

I may be a bit biased because i think most NBA players are borderline dumbasses, but Favors came off like an idiot in his interview.
