At some point you've got to take what you can get...

No. They get more value at the deadline than randomly doing it now.

I don't know that they do, you're banking on a team getting desperate, having the contracts and ability under the new salary cap rules to trade with you and having picks, etc. that actually have value... DFS is also a half season rental at that point as he's likely to opt out.

Lol What? Banking?

It’s no secret that the Lakers want him. No secret other teams will add a new piece by February depending on the standings.

Lakers, Kings, Knicks, Cavs, Clippers, etc will all be asking. It’s pretty obvious.

lol... We'll see. Half year role player rentals historically don't yield good returns.

Ngl, I have some major concerns.

And it’s early and don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but…

Really hope we aren’t overachieving around the deadline, a few games over .500 and Tsai gets all happy and impatient and directs Marks to make a huge win now acquisition, then setting up a second one of Giannis this summer.

Like trading a bunch of picks for Morant or Fox this deadline and floating a bunch more this offseason for Giannis.

Would that team contend on paper? Especially keeping Cam and a guy like Clax? Yeah sure, but for how long and could they ever hope to compete with Dallas, OKC and Denver, Minnesota, Cleveland, Orlando with a star point guard, let alone Boston?

Not really.

Let’s hope they are competitive in nature and pick up good habits, but windup 5th-8th in lotto seeding.

Even if you ignore the baggage, I have always thought that Morant was really overrated plus history shows that you it’s really hard to win with a tiny pg

yea Bucks are in trouble, Giannis is going to ask out soon. I hope we dont trade for him tho tbh unless we can get him on a good deal. i really wouldn't want to give up our lotto picks this year and next, I want to do a full rebuild with fresh young players. Giannis is great but I don't see him aging well like Lebron and Steph, he can't shoot. We need a complete full rebuild and draft our own star players. No short cuts this time. Unless we keep our picks for this year and next and trade all of the Knicks/Suns picks down the line I might be ok with it but ehh idk

I’m not over the moon on Morant, but in what world is he a tiny point guard?

I get your perspective on Giannis' aging. But I say let's get him.

For one, I think that his athleticism is not solely of the run-and-jump variety. He's special because he's got freakishly flexible, springy ligaments in his legs. That's why he can make gigantic strides to the basket, and still finish at the rim. Secondly, he's got an absurdly long wingspan, so I don't think his peak will be cut short as his leaping ability declines, like Blake Griffin.

I think he'll look better on both ends outside of Milwaukee. And he would be a great lure for free agents this summer. Maybe we just a pawn to drive up Miami's offer price, and if so I'm cool with it as well!

Looking like we may need an official in-season rumors thread soon lol. I don't know what Milwaukee's thinking is going to be, but I do think it probably makes sense for them to cash in and the Nets have a lot of pieces of interest (including their own pick back this year if they decide to go for a #5-10 lotto spot).

Read on Twitter

Let's say deal is Simmons + all NYK picks, maybe throw in Whitehead too:

Schroder / Keon
CamT / Zaire
CamJ / Jalen
Giannis / DFS
Clax / Clowney

plus bogdonovic/sharpe back at some point.

lol that's a legit playoff team. plus they still have future picks to trade from. DFS/Bogs both expirings.

Here's a reference for the picks the Nets currently own:

Image

13 total FRPs
1 additional swap (NYK)

2 of the FRPs are protected (PHI28, MIL25) but the MIL pick is now all of a sudden possibly the most valuable one they own. That is the pick Milwaukee would be most tempted to want to get.

The Bridges picks for Giannis seems like absolute robbery, but it's something Milwaukee should absolutely consider.

Cam Thomas has definitely grown on me, but still think you trade him if a good offer comes around.

yeah if he's a must have for Giannis and we dont have to trade many picks (for follow-up deals), i can live with that.

that said if im buying Giannis it's probably in part because I am buying that CamT is someone who can be a #2 scorer in the Jamal Murray spirit. Unless maybe you know Fox wants to make his way here and CamT is a piece towards pairing those 2 up.

I was more hoping to continue the rebuild and get likely lotto picks or a prospect no further than year 2 for him.

Would be sad to see Clax go, but have to see what’s out there I guess.

good news, with the injuries piling up they should have a real good shot at top 4. bottom 7 teams all range between 32-52% for top 4. Nets currently #8.
