These stupid ass holes are going to get people killed.

Absolutely disgusting, selfish behavior. These idiots are going to come back here and spread the virus everywhere. Some of them already look sick!! :noway:

The very notion that this isn't a virus that kills young people was a dangerous and irresponsible narrative to spread about, and we're seeing the end result.

A counterpoint by a Stanford professor published on Stat. It's an interesting read, with sound numerical evidence and logic from a well credentialed expert that goes against most of what we see on TV. I'm not saying he's definitely right or wrong. It's just a good counterpoint...

I think overreacting on the side of caution is a lot better idea than not, whether his assertions are correct or not. This is way more contagious than anything I've ever seen especially with how asymptomatic carriers can infect people.

It's crazy man.

That mother/children story is a weird mix of sorrow for the family, and awful clickbait. The Fusco story has been well publicisized, and in fact supposedly a 4th family member (3rd child) just died). That headline's use of "children" made it seem like very young kids. Instead it was the same story of a mother in her 70s & children in their 50s.

That being said, something is extremely odd about that story. It makes sense that a virus can be easily transferred through a family, but it's a statistical anomaly for 4 to die from it, including 3 that I believe were between 50-60. I hope they do autopsies & studies to see if there's some sort of genetic predisposition.

Also, important to remember that any death in which the deceased tests positive for the virus.
Example: If somebody dies of a heart attack, but had the Coronavirus, he/she will be counted as a Coronavirus death.

Bloomberg reported statistics released from ISS Italy National Health Institute that reviewed records from 18% of Italy's deaths:
48.5% had 3 or more other illnesses
25.6% had 2 other illnesses
25.1% had 1 other illness
0.8% no pathology history
Over 75% had high blood pressure
About 35% had diabetes
A third had heart disease.

Median age of the infected was 63. Average age of the diseased was 79.5 (median 80.5)

Saw this on the general board, and made the following comment there:

Obviously, they're morons.

But who is really to blame for their stupidity? Them, for clearly not recognizing how serious this is, or at least, not recognizing that even if they don't get too sick from coronavirus, they could transmit the virus to someone who IS at risk? Should they be held responsible for the level of ignorance and/or selfishness they're demonstrating?

Is it their parents' fault for not instilling better values and teaching them how to properly prioritize things?

Is it the fault of American culture, that says we can do whatever we want whenever we want?

I find it hard to blame 21 year olds for being selfish morons without any sort of perspective on world matters, that's kind of expected. I think the blame is moreso on the people around them responsible for educating them and teaching them the appropriate values, as well as the culture that they've grown up in.

As an added point: at 21, I was in college and did not have a real job yet, certainly not one that could pay for a spring break trip...I depended on my parents for money...I don't really see a reason to think these 21 year olds aren't in the same situation...so if you depend on your parents, the parents are well within their rights to say "STFU, you're not going anywhere to party, you're going to stay in for spring break". My dad did that every so often when I was about to go off and do something dumb, and I'm glad he did. Should have done it more often to be honest, I was a dumb kid.

If their parents still allowed them to go off on their spring break and have this dumbass approach to things in the midst of a global infectious disease crisis, the fault is more on them than these kids.

Nah this is actually incredibly false. It's already documented exactly the opposite because hundreds, if not thousands of deaths over there have been and continue to be listed as other cause of death then Covid 19 even though it is obvious it was Covid 19.

This article is incredibly irresponsible coming from a guy like that.

Just do simple realistic math without the necessary negative context and we get an optimistic range of 100k+ deaths.

There is so much flaw to his theory.

If he wants to just attach himself to herd immunity and say **** it, let a million or 3 die to save the rest, he might as well come out and say it instead of hiding behind snake oil salesmen boogie man math.

With this coroona no one wants it and I'll take my chances rather than a vaccine.

Please tell me this is a joke...

Just because you don't understand how vaccines work doesn't mean you have to be scared of it. We are at least a year away from a vaccine anyway. We are trying anti-viral drugs to treat people with bad cases of COV19 for right now.

Also it's not really about you getting it but more about stopping the spread, so it does not infect the population of people who are susceptible to the virus. Even if we have a <5% death rate, that's still millions of lives....

Yeah the joke's on you if you trust a president that's full of it...

You should be first in line for the vaccine when it's ready lmbo.

Trump has nothing to do with creating vaccines, lol. All clinical trials can actually easily be followed.

I have friends/know people who are currently working on vaccines and treatments who hate Trump/have no government oversight.

Trump is a terrible president and is a big reason why s**t had to shut down like this but that has nothing to do with the science of the disease/treatment.

It's really bad article IMO. His data selection is really flawed and he's making some real apples to oranges comparisons.

THe premise of what he is saying *could* be right but not with the way he presented it/evidence used.

Those kids wanted to party right, their parents gave that cash money as well. Add the fact millionaires/ billioners didn't want to lose money. Well I'm dumb tight this FO couldn't handle this situation much better.
