Was talking to a buddy who made a great point...

He said the same thing that hurt us trying to find a first for lopez actually helped us get jarret allen.

Very few teams have need for a center... most have eithe r ahigh salary center, a star center, or a young center of the future. the couple teams who didnt took one top 10.

from there... it made it possible for allen and patton to fall. patton didnt allen did.

So here's what I said at the beginning of the thread. While the comment was anti-Wilson post, the Nets went after I wanted in the appropriate order:

I prefer other bigs like Bam and Pasecniks over Wilson. A lot of the stuff that he did at college won't work in the league. The two biggest boxes that need to be checked on my list for a desired big are agility, then toughness. (Pasecniks doesn't provide elite agility but his combined height and mobility presents other problems for the defense.)

I want someone who can hedge, or even blow up picks. That's a major deterrent especially in today's league which utilizes PnR so often. It's also why someone like Noel is an underrated yet still dominant defender.

Wilson's ability to stay in front of college guards might have been ok (although it was a bit shaky IMO), but it won't not hold up in the league.

So far, I like Allen's freakish measurements and his good east-west agility. That's exactly what I was referring to. What made T.Chandler so great and Noel great at present is that they they can stay with the ballhandler for a seconds after the pick because they were/are agile enough to do so. They are also long enough to deny the entry/lob pass to the rolling big.

While I'm a bit concerned about Allen's weak base, I can definitely see the potential there. If he can build up so his lower body so he has a bit more vertical explosion and a stronger stance, he can be a big time NBA defender.

So I guess we don't need to fret about Noel anymore?!

Nets have Boston's 2nd round pick from the pick swap. The Pacers pick rolls over into future years because they made the playoffs this year. It will convey when they miss the playoffs, and will probably be higher value if they miss it badly without PG13.
