Re: The Official Lin Net Thread
I'd expect him to put up like 16-18 ppg if he can stay healthy. He's a scorer on a team devoid of them. His usage rate is gonna be high. If he's going to come anywhere close to surpassing a guy like Teague as a player though he will need to become a good shooter like Teague did
I mean there are gonna be a lot of blowouts and such too. A lot of teams are gonna ly down vs the nets and play their bench, stat pad, etc. Thats why stats can be awfully empty on really bad teams. The season is a long grind and when uncompetitive teams come into town most teams kinda muck thru the first 3 quarters and just hope to have them beat. If they don't then they tighten up in the 4th quarter to make sure they get the win

The difference between Teague in Atlanta and Lin in Brooklyn is the fact that Teague was surrounded by better players and more importantly, enough shooters around him which made team think twice about "overloading" on 1 player.
Surrounded by Better players also allows you to have better quality of shots, for the most part....For Lin to average 15-18 shots per game, he will have to force a lot of "low-quality" shots since no one will pay much attention to RHJ and Booker whenever they floats around the 3poinT line....
That's exactly when teams will edge heavily on Lin and dare these other role players to make baskets...So Lin will have to either force these shots or pass it to open guys..unfortunately for Brooklyn, this team was badly put together and will allow for team to overload Lin/Lopez.
And this is exactly why I can't see Lin averaging 18+ppg..If he does, it'll probably be an ugly and very inefficient 18+ppg alongside 38% FG....and probably 29% 3PTFG.

Unless the Nets is doing extremely well, I do not see any team will double any player in this team. Extremely well means has a high chance to secure a playoff spot, which we all agreed that it is not even remotely a possibility. So yes, Lin will get this 20 ppg

no, people just dont watch the games or keep up with the league. OF COURSE bucks fans hated the guy... they traded a recent first round pick for 1 year of Grevis who who played 20 injury plagued games before being shut down for the season.
anyone who actually follows the sport knows the player Grevis is. he is a 1 way guy, but a super high IQ one who is goign to kill you if you leave him open from three, always find the open man, and hurt you in the PnR.there is no better backup PG than vasquez in this year's free agency, excluding TJ. and even for next year, I can't think of anyone obviously better, unless a current starter is willing to come off the bench on the nets.
completely agree. you wont find many better backup PGs then Grevis. and there are starters id take him over. his D sucks but PG defense isnt super important and his offense and ability to play on and off the ball shouldnt be overlooked
And I think that Powell guy is doing very well for the Raps.

I think ultimately Lin's success's gonna be measured by wins. One could only hope that things work out sooner than later. He's gotta make his teammates better. I guess at least HCA? Depending on what the rosters' gonna look like in the future and what Kenny's got.

For clarity, YOU agreed there is not a remote possibility Nets secure a playoff spot - you would be wrong.
YOU agreed the Nets are going to be uncompetitive, really bad and there are gonna be a lot of blowouts - again you would be wrong.

He will not be that kind of modern-age pg who would chuck up 15+ fga inefficiently. He is a combination of high basketball IQ, laid back attitude and team-first spirit. Putting in a simple way, he is gonna play what the defense gives him.
So...
1) If his teammates are given tons of space by the defense but making only 1/3 of the 3s, he might be shooting much less... cuz he simply can't beat 3 defenders by his own in the paint every time.
2) IF his teammates are given ideal space by the defense making half of the 3s, he might be shooting less than average... cuz he is unselfish.
3) If his teammates are given less space but making okay % from beyond the arc, he might be shooting more... cuz he is one hella driver to the hoop with good spacing from his team.
4) If his teammates are given narrow space and only making 1 out of 5 from outside, he might be shooting way more... like what he did against the Heat in the PO 3 months ago.
Depends on his teammates' abilities and the new system they are trying to run, I guess Lin would shoot ~14 fga per game and average more than 18 pts.

This website is for fans of Nets to discuss the Brooklyn basketball team and you (and others) definitively state the TEAM has no remote possibility of playoffs, suck horribly and will get blown out and not ONE game has been played yet.
For your information, after MKG went down the CHA Hornets had a consensus prediction of 26.75 wins compiled by CBSSports of 4 major sportswriters. Lin saved at least 11 regular season games where CHA starters dug double digit deficits and they got 48 wins, underdogs win in EVERY sport and Nets can too.

Lopez is the only legit NBA player in the starting 5. and as we saw last year, they didnt pay special attention to him. teams play the nets straight up, because they can beat us handily doing so. it only hurts opposing defenses to help and double and throw stuff at lopez and lin, because that potentially opens up easy shots for bad players who wouldnt otherwise be able to get good shots. teams will let brook/lin get there 40 points, on solid efficiency, hold everyone else to 55 points on terrible efficiency and beat us by 10+
If Lin/lopez can get going early, I see team forcing guys like RHJ and Booker to take outside shots by leaving them wide open and pressing hard on Lin/Lopez PnR....
unlikely, and didnt happen last year. why give those guys easy looks when you can force them to take contested shots that have little shot of going in?
Basically, team will force RHJ and Booker to beat them by knocking down open jump shots consistently....This is exactly why it was important to get enough shooters around Lin/Lopez..I'd rather get beat by Booker/RHJ than allow Lin/Lopez Pnr to beat me.
thats the thing. lopez and line can drop 45 or 55 combined, and we still get blown out because everone else is shut down and held to awful shooting.

to surpass dwill, lin would need to post 20/8 and have the nets have a winning record at the least and maybe make the all-star team. that was dwills apex here. tougher for lin because dwill had johnson and lopez, lin just has lopez. that said...
deron williams isnt in the "upper echelon of nets point gaurds"
Kidd
Micheal Ray Richardson
Kenny Anderson
Bill Melchioni (if you count ABA)
-----
Sam Cassell
Stephon Marbury
-----
Devin Harris
Deron Williams
Kidd, Ray Richarson and kenny are the upper echelon of nets point gaurds. there is a pretty enormous dropoff from them to the next tiers, although cassell woudl be there if he was a net longer. him and steph were very much clearly ahead of Deron. I'd also put harris play above that of derons. slightly.
i dont think Lin can make the upper echelon...
Kenny anderson was 19/10/2, an all-star, and 3rd team all-nba
Ray Richardson was a 21/8/6 while leading the league in steals, making the all star team, first team all-NBA defense and led the nets to the playoffs.
Jason Kidd was MVP runner up, 1st team All-NBA and the nets made back to back finals. i know this is the lin thread but i think we can shelf that talk for now.
i think lin can match or top dwill volume wise. i think 20/8 is within reach. im not sure about getting this team to a winning record though, but he has less to work with with no joe johnson like dwill had. he can probably surpass dwill, as overall dwill was good but not very good.
those other 3 he would need to post all star numbers AND make the playoffs AND make an all-nba team

other then non-net fans who joined only cause of Lin, none of the long time nets fans predicted more then 20-30 wins, with most 28 and under and a few under 20.
the media and big sports networks all have us bottom 2 in the east.
we might surpass that, but i think the common thinking between both long time nets fans and local and national media is a really bad 25ish win team

and what teams are going to give him is tons of 1 on 1 opportunities and tons of chances to create shots. teams arent doubling lopez and they arent rotating and trapping. they are gonna play guys straight up, because the only way the nets can hurt you is if you start doubling and helping and giving their bad players who cant score easy shots.
1) If his teammates are given tons of space by the defense but making only 1/3 of the 3s, he might be shooting much less... cuz he simply can't beat 3 defenders by his own in the paint every time.
i dont see teams giving anyone space... like last year, they will play it straight up and dare the nets players to beat them 1 on 1, and in fashion where they get outscored (ubnlikely with how bad the nets are defensively, 2nd worst last season)
Depends on his teammates' abilities and the new system they are trying to run, I guess Lin would shoot ~14 fga per game and average more than 18 pts.
i dont see any scenario where lin has less then 15 FGA. there is simply not enough guys to take shots other then him, lopez and bogs... and lopez isnt a very aggressive player and only plays like 30-32 minutes a night.
your over thinking it. it has nothing to do with selfishness, its sheer need. he has to take those shots cause we dont have other guys who can create offense

Some more stuff from his weekend at Seacoast Grace Church. I'm not religious (agnostic here), but it's clear that his faith means a lot to him. Apparently this whole thing was organized by Landry Fields, who has a long past association with this church.
I think he did 3 sessions, 1 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Here's video of the two Sunday sessions. Mostly covered the same ground, though some of the anecdotes shared on stage were different from session to session. (For example, one talks about the awkward California King situation and the other doesn't. One has the papaya dog story, the other doesn't.).
Below is a write-up of one fan on one of the Lin-centric sites who attended. Seems to be from the Saturday event since some of the anecdotes are different from the two Sunday event videos (such as the thing about Landry looking the Knicks players in the eyes). All three events seem to have a different selection of anecdotes shared, though the main points are the same. Like Landry bringing a duffel bag to Jeremy's place to take all the free swag and gifts that JLin couldn't use up anyway during Linsanity
Some pics and tweets from the SGC events.
And evidently JLin took an uber to church. But when he also took an uber when leaving, he accidentally took someone else's uber by mistake.
I'm betting the Nets will have a bible study group this season.

Just came back from hearing Jlin speak at church with Landry Fields. Not sure how many of those people were church members or only came to see Lin, but it was very packed! Here are some interesting tidbits that I found interesting. It's also kind of weird how we get more inside stuff from Lin during these church speaking engagements than anywhere else.
- Landry Fields first heard of Jeremy Lin when he was in HS at Los Alamitos
-Lin says he felt tremendous pressure and anxiety trying to represent for Asians during his GS years.
-He says he spoke to Mike D'antoni since after Linsanity and Dantoni confimed that they were going to "release" Lin but since they had back-to-back-to back games, they had no time and figured they'll just throw Lin in to give him a shot and that they were going to waive him after.
-Lin's agent called him before the Nets game and told him he needs to perform bc this could be his last game in the nba
-Lin, who always felt anxious and anxiety before games, felt a supernatural at-ease feeling before nets game and no anxiety whatsover.
-When Lin scored 6 points vs the nets in that break-out game against the nets, he was so happy he socred 6 points, way higher than what he usually scores.
-Landry fields says that as a spectator and witnessing Linsanity, he has never witnessed a team that played more purely. He says it was a representation of the most selflessness he has ever experienced. Fields also says that during the linsanty stretch, he took all the guys aside and look them in the eyes and that he felt the guys would literally die for Lin.
-Lin says the anxiety and anxiouness came back before the Chicago Bulls game sometime after the 2 weeks of linsanity. He says beyond the lakers 38 point game, the toronto buzzer beater or the nets break-out game, this was the moment that was most memorable. The feeling of extreme anxiety, stress and feeling empty, always having to outdo the next performance.
-Lin received so many free stuff during Linsanity stretch, loads of boxes were sent to lin's apt. Landry fields would come by and try to take some the free stuff.
-Lin was able to lead a bible study at the end of the Knicks season and guys that normally would have made fun of "chrisitanity" actually came out.
-His most difficult time in post-linsanity came against spurs when he was a laker. During that game, Lin was benched and did not even sniff court time. He felt like his career was regressing back to where it all first started pre-linsanity. From bench to the highest peak to falling back down. Says that through that experience, he came out stronger than ever. Learned a lot about himself.
I think i might be missing stuff, but I loved the true friendship between fields and lin. You can tell that without fields with lin during ny days, it wouldn't have been as great. Also, you can tell the linsanity guys truly valued lin during the stretch, until melo came back.
Having been a lin fan for so long, it really makes me appreciate how strong he is. To overcome obstacles and continually stick to his principles and values. I can't wait to see what 's next in Lin's story!

Yormark will take 15 meetings this week alone in China. Nets Daily coined the term "Lin-ergy." I hope they trademark it before someone else does, like how LinkedIn quickly trademarked the non-hyphenated "BrookLin" after seeing a post on reddit about someone else trademarking the hyphenated "Brook-Lin".
Interesting that according to what the Nets insider source told Nets Daily, the Nets are communicating with Lin's people and using Lin's network and contacts to make inroads overseas, in addition to whatever previous contacts the Nets had from prior years.
I guess JLin really is investing in this franchise's future and wants to be a part of the startup to build the fanbase for the Nets. He's true to his word, and he's having his people work with the Nets to share resources and contacts to make it happen, it seems.
http://www.netsdaily.com/2016/8/15/12489438/brett-yormark-in-beijing-as-nets-start-to-take-advantage-of-lin-ergy
Last year, a tiny teenie-weenie market Hornets team had more viewers than the globally branded Lakers on the streaming service from TenCent (the Chinese internet company who paid the NBA $700M in a recent contract for the streaming rights). Hornets VP Pete Guelli even tweeted about it, I believe.

Brett Yormark, CEO of the Nets and Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment, and Michael Zavodsky, his executive vice president for global partnerships, are in Beijing this week to take advantage of the Nets' new connection with China ... Jeremy Lin. Call it Lin-ergy.
It's one of several initiatives the Nets have taken both in Asia and the U.S. A Nets insider said the team has been in touch with "Lin's people" on the efforts, including the trip to the Chinese capital.
Yormark and Zavodsky will be meeting with potential Chinese sponsors, including sports equipment manufacturers, insurance companies, television network outlets and other marketing companies.
------
Yormark and Zavodsky are expected to take 15 meetings over the course of the week.
Like a lot of Nets-related sites (including NetsDaily), the team's own sites have seen an explosion of interest since July 1, when Lin tweeted out his decision. For example, the Nets official site on Weibo, a Chinese cross between Twitter and Facebook, now has 1.3 million followers and growing.

Glad to see you rank Sugar Ray so high. He often goes overlooked but he was somethin'.
If you count ABA, how about Brian Taylor? So-so as a facilitator when you compare him to Melchioni (who drops to at least 2nd tier for me) but he did play the point position on the classic ABA Nets teams. I think most people would take him over Melchioni who he beat out for job.

Kenny Anderson
Bill Melchioni (if you count ABA)

Glad to see you rank Sugar Ray so high. He often goes overlooked but he was somethin'.

Here are some interesting tidbits that I found interesting. It's also kind of weird how we get more inside stuff from Lin during these church speaking engagements than anywhere else.
I'm betting the Nets will have a bible study group this season.
this team is gonna need all the prayers it can get

The quoting hierarchy in that post is a bit off. Just want to point out the last line is me, but the preceding paragraph about going to the Church is not me. The church account that I copy/pasted from another site is from someone in California. I'm in NYC (as the mods can verify by IP). Just clearing up the confusion because I don't want to take credit for someone else's write-up of their experience. But yeah, this is gonna be a tough year, most likely.

Hahaha.
Well, Lopez is pretty used to being at the bottom of the league from last year, and in a freaking bizarre and arguably slightly unfair way, Lin's stint with the rudderless Lakers is superior prep for the 16-17 Nets season. (You might even say Lin would never have come to Brooklyn under any circumstances if not for that season.)
DNP-CD @ Spurs during Lakers crapshow vs. Lin leads Hornets to win against Spurs after giant deficit on Hornets home court = nice study in contrasts.

Bleacher Report released the youtube video of JLin's stint as their "special correspondent" walking around interviewing random strangers at the DOTA event.
