Front office and KD need to have a sit down and try to work things out. This team is too good on paper to not at least try to see how it looks on the court.
Winning solves everything. Everyone is happier when you are winning.
If this is indeed a power play by KD to keep Kyrie long term then something can definitely be worked out.

MagicBagley18 wrote:Imo it’s not that kyrie and KD wouldn’t prefer to be in Brooklyn. They would. It’s not that they don’t wanna play together anymore they do. I think in a perfect world they are still nets. The disconnect is ownership is trying to take back some power within the organization and not just relinquish any authority to them and do whatever they want anymore.
Kyrie wants a certain contract and the nets won’t give it to him. It’s not Brooklyn it’s not the city- it’s that they wanna have full reign over the entire organization and tsai and Mark’s and the powers that be (really tsai) don’t seem to be on board with that anymore and kyrie and KD are demanding out because of it.
Scoop b or whomever else can say Brooklyn is where kyrie and KD wanna be- that’s likely facts but they wanna be in Brooklyn their way and I don’t think that’s happening anymore. I think these things take time and ultimately you’ll get a really good return for KD. Everything right now is posturing.
Yeah it's obvious for the first time in a long, long time someone told these two idiots "no" and they're throwing a fit like children.
Imagine KD going to Miami and thinking that he'd have any say over Pat Riley?

I no longer believe this team has any chance of winning.
KD is the worst leader in professional sports. Kyrie is a cancer. Nash is a horrific coach that hasn't been fired.
The real question KD needs to answer is, is he willing to go to New Orleans or Toronto rather than come back here. If so, I think we need to get one of those deals done.
But even if he wants to come back I don't see any shot of this team winning anything. KD made his bed. Now he has to go to a gutted team that likely won't contend.

If we had 100% buy in from KD and Kyrie, I'd be happy to run it back but that ship has sailed.
Everyone laughs at culture over talent but no team in history has won without 100% commitment and a strong culture. The Cavs and Warriors won in spite of Kyrie and KD acting up because they weren't the leaders and the rest of the team decided to ignore them and just let them hoop. Kobe and Shaq had beef but they always put it to the side for the team. You can go down the list of basically every Finals matchup.
You don't succeed with this BS hanging over a team. The chances we go into the season and either the team struggles or KD / Kyrie get hurt - and completely kill any leverage we might have - are way too high. I wouldn't risk that if I were Marks.

Just run it back if the alternative is role players and some late round picks.
There is a chance they pull a Simmons or Harden but Durant wasting a season while on a roster that could contend or Irving sitting out as an upcoming FA doesn't make any sense. Still, if they decide that's how they want to go about it and erode whatever is left of their reputations, let them. This upcoming draft is supposed to be very good anyways and the Rockets are still rebuilding so the pick should be good whichever way it goes.
Simmons can quietly return while most of the talk is KD/KI, add a potential high draft pick (somethings Marks hasn't had) and take things from there. A well rested KD should still be able to get you a role player or two next offseason.
If they play then this team has a chance to contend. Irrespective of feelings, Durant wants to win and Kyrie will be playing for the max. Therefore, it would be in the best interest of everyone if the season worked out.

It gets worse. If Ayton signs that offer sheet from Indiana, Phoenix pretty much is out as a trade destination. That deal was never going to work for us anyway because we would be left without a consistent perimeter scoring threat.
I don't know where this clown actually thinks he's going. Kyrie I could care less about. We can without Kyrie, but not having an all in Durant isn't going to help either.

It is CRUCIAL for Marks to hold the line.
Once Ayton signs with Indiana, it makes it very clear that Phoenix can't get Durant.
After this, it will become clear to Durant that we won't trade him there. He can then decide if he would rather go to Toronto, New Orleans or stay.
I think if he reassures NO or TO that he would be happy there they will give up the farm.
The question is would he actually want to go to those teams?
I doubt it. At that point he either pulls a Ben Simmons a throws a temper tantrum to go to Phoenix or he just stays here.
I'll deal with a KD tantrum before giving him up for nothing on a 4 year deal. Eventually he will settle for going to NO/TOR.

You either give up Siakam and the ugly assed Barnes plus 4 picks or we aren't even speaking.
Ok.
I'm a Raptor fan, and I don't want to trade for Durant.
He's a great player, but he's 33 years old, and he's not worth gutting the team for.
I'd rather continue developing our young players and see where it takes us.

I think thats a perfectly valid opinion to have.
My issue is with Raptors fans insisting the Nets would have to take some garbage offer without Barnes included. Give me a break.

Outside of a deal getting Ingram back, or to Boston for Jaylen Brown, no one can offer us anything worth trading for due to the stupid rule regarding Simmons. Mikal Bridges isn't going to be draw defensive pressure to open up shooters. Tyler Herro isn't a 1A guy and probably won't be. Raptors aren't trading Barnes (because they're not dumb). At this point, the only trade I would consider is this:
Nets get:
Gordon Hayward
Terry Rozier
LAL '27 1st
Hornets get:
Russell Westbrook
LAL '29 1st
Lakers get:
Kyrie Irving
Joe Harris
My reasoning? Adding Heyward and Rozier to this already loaded roster gives us more flexibility, and we still will have plenty of shooters. I would hate to give up Joe, but the alternatives are giving up Seth, or giving up Cam and Dayron. I'm open to either deal, but I hate giving up young players in a salary dump, and if I had to choose between Seth and Joe, I choose Seth.
That would leave us with a roster of
Simmons/Mills/Sumner
Curry/Rozier/Thomas
O'Neal/Hayward
Durant/Warren/Edwards
Claxton/Sharpe
With room left for an MLE signing.

Agree, wait until next offseason to bring in role players if that's what it comes to. For this season, either contend or let them sit out and get a good draft pick while you still can.
A team that hasn't been mentioned much that could come into play by the trade deadline or next offseason is the Blazers. I'd rather have a player like Simons (can't trade right now) who could maybe become a primary or secondary scorer than all these role players that can't dribble.

Windhorst put an exclamation mark on this today, saying that there just isn't a bidding war for Durant. Left mostly unsaid is that KD has surely tanked a certain amount of his value by asking out under these circumstances, and for wanting to go to specific teams.
I agree with MGrand that this is ordinarily a toxic set of circumstances under which to chase a ring, but there's just no choice, aye? Marks can also suffer along, being the guy who hitched his wagon to these two rocket surgeons in the first place.
But I would still revisit all this near the trade deadline, especially if the team is underperforming. Another team close to being a conference leader, but clearly a step behind, might make for a vastly better trade partner for KD than exists right now. With time to dwell on the consequences of his actions, I also have to think Durant will be a lot more open to going to a good, contending team not of his choosing, plus being content there.
Meanwhile, Lakers keep WB, he continues to be a net negative, LeBron's angry about one of his final good years going to waste, and I'm hoping they make a serious offer for Kyrie near February. Could even work out really well for them, putting them over the hump.

That's another thing. Players who have extended can be traded after Dec. 15th I think. If Durant is being a turd there might be options open to us.
Right now, its best to just chill.

Let's not forget how everyone watched in the playoffs as Durant couldn't even dribble past Al Horford without turning the ball over. If Durant had played worth a damn his value wouldn't even be questioned. He's done a ton of damage to himself over the last 3 months.
The only reason I even hold on to this bag of sh*t is because we can't accept a deal back that doesn't include a consistent perimeter scorer. Otherwise, I could care less and I absolutely would sell him for pennies on the dollar next offseason when he turns 35.

I think this cuts 2 ways, 1 bad, 1 maybe good or bad. the bad is like you said league is offering ****. the good is that the nets got spooked enough to see an even bigger hindenburg keeping KD/Kyrie and failing spectacularly.
put another way I dont think the nets even consider trading KD unless they in part are worried about him and want to cash in right now. Otherwise they'd play hardball 100%.
net-net (no pun intended) I think we are taking the phoenix package around ayton/bridges/cam and a ton of picks. realistically that trio is better than what we can expect elsewhere in terms of young players not restricted by the rookie extension rule.
being unable to have miami as a serious bidder because of Bam screwed us, but honestly i think im taking that deal over Bam/Herro any way. its close though.

If I'm Marks, I shut down all trade talks for KD and tell him that there's no viable offers. Because there aren't.
Where is KD going?
If teams want to offer lower value next year when Kyrie is off the books and KD turns 35, sure I entertain it. But not this season, not with the roster we have.
That's another thing. Players who have extended can be traded after Dec. 15th I think. If Durant is being a turd there might be options open to us.
Right now, its best to just chill.
Exactly. The Suns are the only team that needs to rush things right now.
I've been saying though that of all the teams Durant could go to the Blazers make the most sense. They can't really do anything right now though but by the trade deadline they can.

As of now, I think Indiana is a little short of cap space for a max Ayton offer. They can easily free a few million up, but would have to do so before presenting the offer sheet. They want to send Turner back in the deal. A sign & trade would obviously eliminate teh risk of a Phoenix match. I'm wondering if Ayton is willing to settle for less than the max. If he is, what's that number & does that number make him more attractive to Marks.
