Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
Okay, so Kyrie has been in quarantine over the last two games. So I take back the stuff I said about the Zoom meeting, he was actually doing what he was supposed to do.
I hope things will go well from here. The Nets have a serious chance to win it all if everyone is on board and healthy.

Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
Still wary about Kyrie but with this now, everything that happened around him makes sense and I feel much better tbh.
With the Capitol Hill events, he did need a day or too for mental health. Bad timing, because it was his dad AND sisters birthday within a day or too of each other. If everyone has followed Kyrie recently, we know that family is very, very important to him right now. So no way was he going to not celebrate with them, especially with big sis turning 30!
So after the part he had to quarantine a few days, meaning he missed had to miss a couple games. This obviously could've been clarified to the media/fans but then that would improve his trade value to Houston

It makes it difficult with a fan not knowing those things, and after the fact being like "oh that makes more sense now"
but i also 100% get why they didnt just put it out there... ESPECIALLY with Kyrie, where the media is just gonna twist everything. Steven A. was calling for the dude to retire!

As ive said before... Jackie McMullin is a complete SNAKE.
You dont tell a black man "yes, you are someone elses property."
People came at me for saying she is Kyrie hater because "she writes stories that compliment him" but she knows what she is doing, she has been a writer too long to know that you can write 1000 words complimenting someone but the 2 sentences of controversy will become someone elses headline (like that fake story about him not autographing balls or that smart thought he was a poor leader). she probably gave others those headlines and wrote a story around it that was pro-kyrie to make it not look as bad
She is a snake. Cee you next tuesday jackie.

I'm glad this thing cost Kyrie over 800k, he isn't above anybody else. Lebron doesn't even do these kind of things. And I don't buy that whole " he needed some mental space for that capitol thing", that is not a good excuse. Everybody else in the world has to get up and go to work and do what they have to do, nobody gets excused for that crap. But somehow Kyrie thinks he's thee only one in the NBA that can just take a couple weeks off when he feels like it, I mean get a load of this guy, who tf does he think he is? i hope he's learned his lesson. Not even 20 games into the year and he's already throwing these hissy fits.

She is garbage. I usually have a high level of respect for female reporters because they work hard to get to positions like this, but **** her. For her to say that is tone deaf at best and malicious at worst.

I still think that he did the team dirty with what he did via the party because that was reckless and foolish for a multitude of reasons and not just basketball, but I've since cooled off because a) he clearly returned in time to quarantine for the last two games, and b) he was punished accordingly. If anything, I wish we knew what he was already doing because now I feel bad for being angry at him when he was literally doing what needed to be done. Poor communication honestly from the Nets, which was either deliberate (to tank Kyrie's trade value) or just clumsy.
The ball is in his court now. The Nets held the line for him, now he has to make good on everything that he said that he wants to do.

Well, technically he already has been back since he was under quarantine and has been testing.
The Nets just...didn't bother to tell anyone

The Nets under Marks have a history of being super vague when it comes to players availability/injury etc., so I think it is 100% deliberate on their end. They lean heavily towards protecting players and not giving the media too much info.

Actually they dont. In fact, almost everyone in the world can take off for emotional distress and if their employer tried to fire them, they would be facing a lawsuit. there are strong protections in the US when it comes to medical leave.
its not a hissy fit. white supremicist literally stormed the capital the same day kenosha police were left off the hook. I know some people who are considering leaving the country over it.

The main thing is that he's available and ready to play. It sucks, but in a way it's good to let Harden get his feet wet next to KD.

1) Kyrie was fined by the league, not the team
2) Kyrie was fined for violating safety protocoal on 2 counts (gathering of 15+ people, attending a club) NOT for missing games
its not a hissy fit. white supremicist literally stormed the capital the same day kenosha police were left off the hook. I know some people who are considering leaving the country over it.
Maybe in your world or your white collar job they can do that. But even then, nobody wants to go thru all that headache. Newsflash: EVERYBODY has problems, and everybody deals with it, it's as simple as that. And not everybody is getting paid 30 million plus a year for their problems either.
1) I don't care who fined him because I never even said the team did in the first place, that's irrelevant.
2) I don't care why he was fined because he deserves it anyway. It's understandable if he was actually sick or something, but he really just took 2 weeks off because he felt like it and went to the club with a bunch of ppl and you're sitting her justifying it. Yea some emotional breakdown he's having.
It most definitely is a hissy fit. " wahhh wahhh I'm crying because a bunch of trumptards stormed that capitol wahhh it hurts my feelings", who gives a S*** ! Yea I felt away about it but get over it, that's no excuse I don't care what you say.

IF you are a US citizen older then 18 and not a convicted felon you are protected by US labor laws and your employer can not fire or retaliate against you for missing time for ANY medical reasons, including emotional distress.
"who wants to go through that headache" is a silly questions. No one wants to have anxiety or emotional distress. you dont choose to deal with it. but if you are suffering from it, you are protected by labor laws. Salary is irrelevant, job is irrelevant. Sick is sick. Mental health issues are mental health issues and anxiety is anxiety. people much richer then Kyrie have committed suicide or thrown their careers away due to mental health issues, anxiety, and deprission.

Yeah its not "get over it" for every black man and woman and america. you dont just "get over" systemic racism and the govenment, cops, and half the country embracing white supremacy. maybe you want to go back to your bubble and hope these guys just shut up and play but back in the real world racism is a real issue. half the country supports killing off an entire race of people

yea I get that but again, it is a headache to go thru. For instance, in my job if I need some "mental days" they will allow me some days off but they will be on my body after that. That's when I start getting random drug tests and all these pysch evaluations etc.. nobody got time for all that, I have a family to take care of. Most ppl in america are dealing with some sort of anxiety or depression, Kyrie ain't special. He acts like he's special , he's privileged and entitled. Alot of ppl are going thru a whole lot worse than his little hissy fits about the capitol.
lol bro these conversations make me laugh and cringe at the same time, especially coming from a white guy. Take your cape off bro, you won't get any cool points for it. Oh I forgot you live in Boston, yea racism is definitely a real issue there. Thank god I live in NYC and don't have to deal with that .

I think you're correctly pointing out several things, but, Papi isn't wrong either.
Yeah, it's not "get over it" for every Black person in this country.
But in reality, we have to because tomorrow is always coming and the world and this society will not pause for our pain and suffering.
This Kyrie situation basically illustrates why privilege via wealth matters in this country.
A Black person holding down a 9-5 or salaried job within a certain income bracket can't just tell her or his employer that they need time off for personal reasons. Okay yeah, a lot of folks have PTO but when you dig into the numbers it's not that easy. I would need a damn good reason to miss work abruptly like Kyrie did and still get paid. But nevermind me, because I make good money.
So, let's take a grocery store worker or EMT, whose wages are severely depressed, and with it, all benefits including PTO. Can they just say "Hey man I'm going through it right now and I need to take some time away"?
No they can't. They have to literally "get over it" and show up for work or they are **** ed. Their race or gender doesn't matter. You either show up for work, or you will be replaced.
Millions of Black people face this scenario every day. Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, suicidal thoughts, it doesn't matter to these animals that run corporations...if you aren't rich and talented at a novelty craft like basketball like Kyrie is, you had best believe no one cares about any of that, and you had better show up for work or your life is about to take a sharp detour into pain and suffering.
So while I can respect your understanding certain things...you have to respect why other folks who are minorities look at Kyrie and have an issue with how he goes about things. He is privileged. He got docked 900,000 dollars when in reality he should have been docked even MORE for the other two games he missed. The rest of us don't get to behave like that.
I felt despair and depression as I watched the Capitol overrun by white supremacists who were allowed through the doors by Capitol police simply because they were white and supported a white supremacist like Donald Trump. It showed me just how awful my countrymen are and how unwanted and foreign that I am here in the country that I was born in. I felt unwelcome here watching these c*nts carry on in a way that myself or any other Black or Brown person would never dare.
and yet, I couldn't take off from work without warning. I had to suck it up and do my job. 99% of Black and Brown people had to do the same thing.
So when you see someone like Papi or me calling Kyrie out, realize that we are calling out his privilege and not undercutting his plight as a Black man.
Please stop using that as an excuse for Kyrie shirking his responsibilities. It's insulting to me and every other Black, Brown, Asian, or any other minority on here.

100 . I stand with minorities wholeheartedly thru thick and thin . But you said it better than I could ever have.

It most definitely is a hissy fit. " wahhh wahhh I'm crying because a bunch of trumptards stormed that capitol wahhh it hurts my feelings", who gives a S*** ! Yea I felt away about it but get over it, that's no excuse I don't care what you say.
Yeah its not "get over it" for every black man and woman and america. you dont just "get over" systemic racism and the govenment, cops, and half the country embracing white supremacy. maybe you want to go back to your bubble and hope these guys just shut up and play but back in the real world racism is a real issue. half the country supports killing off an entire race of people
I think you're correctly pointing out several things, but, Papi isn't wrong either.

Please stop using that as an excuse for Kyrie shirking his responsibilities. It's insulting to me and every other Black, Brown, Asian, or any other minority on here.
I don't care about this stuff nearly as much as you guys do because it's ridiculous to compare NBA players to an average worker. On all levels. It's just a whole different world. It gets even more ridiculous if you're comparing a star level player to a regular worker. Comparing what Kyrie can do vs. an EMT worker just makes no sense.
Of course Kyrie is privileged compared to the average person. Does that mean we should kill him for doing what he needs to do to get his mind right? I personally would LOVE to have time off when these crazy things happen to us and I can barely take care of myself. I don't have that kind of leeway but I'm not gonna tell someone else to just suck it up when they have that kind of leverage. If I had it, I'd 100% use it. I'm just never going to be the type of person to want to drag down others because I'm in a certain bad situation. These jobs should be treating people like humans. That doesn't always mean perfect communication or a clear end date to personal time off. A couple years back my Uncle passed away and I took ONE day off to be with family and I felt guilty about it. That concept kinda haunts me to this day.
A lot of this Kyrie talk just straight makes me uncomfortable to be honest. It's fun for the media or for fans to bash him. Stephen A gets millions of views telling him to retire. He's an easy target. He's just crazy Ky. When Love or Demar come out talking about depression, everyone is on the mental health bandwagon. Talking about how important it is. Everyone was killing Fox News when they were telling Lebron to 'shut up and dribble'. What if Kyrie was having suicidal thoughts? Would we want him to power through to play some January games against the Knicks and Nuggets? Or if he was on the verge of a mental break? A full explanation would be great but is it necessary to give someone space?
I'm not saying Ky is right for abandoning the team for a week in January but I'm just not gonna sit here and kill him for it. I'd do the same if it was Lebron. Or Jaylen Brown. Or anyone else. Especially during a pandemic where us POCs are getting hit extremely hard. Maybe Kyrie is just a diva or he's truly going through something. IDK. I'm just not going to judge until I get the full story.

But Kyrie is the ONLY one in the NBA pulling these kinda stunts, the only one, nobody else. It's just always so much drama with kyrie, like I don't get it. Does he love this type of attention? It hasn't even been a whole month of basketball and he's already with the shenanigans . He had a whole off season and even last season and even thru the bubble to get his mind right. I don't know what more does he want, what else would make him happy? He seems like he doesn't even care about ball anymore. What went wrong in his life I would really like to know, or is it just not enough. What is it?
