So I put down a quick and neat 2019 Off-season Financials on a Spreadsheet...pasted it on RealGM...and...uh, is there no way to paste here that allows it to keep format?
It looked ridiculously messy just straight up copy/paste

Knicks can put a better team around durant with a second full max plus using their top 3 pick (maybe #1 overall) to trade for a third star... potentially Anthony Davis.
His legend and status as an all-time great would grow 100 times more winning with the Knicks then with us.
His endorsements and fame would be higher with the knicks.
i cant see any of the other 29 teams being as close to as a great a fit for him as the knicks. he has his rings, he has his mvps, he has his all-time scoring stats. He needs to win in NY, with a team that is his. If/when he does that he will be in the lebron/jordan/Kareem conversation for GOAT. and will be the biggest star in NY since jeter
The only advantage the Knicks have is brand, building and flexibility. That’s it.
The Nets offer virtually the same endorsement opportunity. D’Angelo is currently getting endorsements left and right from this season and he’s now the face of Kimo Tires NBA commercials. Durant’s status here as a star will shine itself. The man is under Roc Nation and with two Yormork CEOs pushing his marketing (hypothetically speaking). He’s going to be the biggest star since Jeter here or with the Knicks.
The NBA is pushing for the Nets to get Tsai in for us to be the China’s hub for endorsement and rating opportunities hence why they booked Lakers vs Nets for NBA China Tour in October.
The winning a title with the Knicks talk is debatable when Brooklyn hasn’t won a professional sports title since the Dodgers and Nets haven’t since Julius Erving.
The Nets right now are the talk of New York. Durant or another star plus our natural stable culture would increase that and create a model (which is already happening) of how to rebuild. Fans will bandwagon regardless. Everyone for the most part wanted us to knock off Philly so our culture and team is likable. The Knicks are not. Only in New York.
Sean Marks will be EOY, KD can easily win multiple MVPs here and quite frankly joins a 42 win team and easily moves them into contention. Adding a second or third star becomes a no brainer for Marks. Did Morey hesitate to move Beverley, Harrell, Williams, despite how much of a steal both of them were in Houston for a chance at a complimentary star? Absolutely not.
The circumstance is a little different. It’s not that far fetched and it’s about as equal in opportunity in winning as going to the Knicks.

Adding Durant will legitimize the Nets and the national topic of conversation will shift dramatically. It won't matter what the fans of New York do, because the Nets will sell out games based on star power alone. Merch sales will increase. Bandwagoners will flow in like running water to a village dying of thirst.

none of that really matters though... its all true, but for durant, the only thing missing for him is legacy and fame. His legacy is simply helped with the knicks 100x more then any other franchise.

Says who? You? It’s not gospel. You’ve vastly overrating the Knicks “lore” at this point. The entire rumor was media driven. It’s always been media driven they land Zion (off a 14% chance) and land Kyrie and KD. The media has shifted to favor the Nets for both names. Now, Kawhi. He wouldn’t join anywhere alone so how does that 100% “enhance” his legacy?
His legacy will be written as a franchise hero wherever he goes. If he wants to have a chance at sustainability, he joins the Nets or Clippers and again, bringing a modern day championship to the Clippers and Nets would be more historic considering both are pushing for international fans. KD will blow up in China under Tsai’s marketing as the Nets become NBa China’s team. The Rockets no longer hold that heavy distinction.
That’s like saying the Miami Big 3 wouldn’t be as historically good or even remembered if they teamed up on the Nets or Clippers instead and won 2 championships.
Any team with KD + Kyrie or Kawhi instantly become the most popular in the league. Period. KD/Kawhi becomes the best duo since LeBron/Wade or Jordan/Pippen.

I'm sort of hoping philly knocks out raptors..and we convince leonard to join us. then we trade allen, levert, crabbe+couple 1st rders for Anthony Davis.
Dlo
Harris
Leonard
Kurucs(or find way to free up cap space and sign Randle; Mirotic; or Jabari Parker)
Anthony Davis
that team can make the ecf and contend for the title.

his legacy wont be the same wherever he goes... 1 title with the knicks would trup 3+ with the nets... winning with the knicks would be a bigger store with more fame and lore then anything he could do with the nets.
its not even remotely debatable either. hell the knicks just making the playoffs was bigger then the nets back to back finals apperances.

Ten years ago no one gave a damn about the Golden State Warriors. Now they are one of the NBA's most profitable franchises in a prime market.
If Kevin Durant were to choose to lay his foundation down with the Nets and the end result is a championship, all that stuff about the Knicks goes right out of the window.

Even if he lands in NY with a second star, I don’t think they have enough to be a championship contender immediately. As we’ve seen with everyone there, that fan base and the media turns on stars at the first sign of adversity or underachievement. Knicks fans fell they have Yankee entitlement despite decades of dysfunction.

This is just complete, utter, nonsensical bull. Last year's NBA finals had record ratings. Sports media is obsessed with Warriors/KD. KD, Curry are genuine superstars in this league. Warriors' popularity is massive, their fanbase has become massive since they started winning, they sell out road games everywhere, and obviously they have great support in Oakland. Warriors have tons of bandwagon fans all around the world.Prokorov wrote:MrDollarBills wrote:SpeedyG wrote:That IS very debatable.

To have this ridiculous idea, that sports isn't driven by winning/success, glory hunting casual fans, its absurd. The casual sports fan doesn't give a **** about KD's legacy, they just care that he's a great player who wins. Clippers are the Nets of the West (with Lakers being far superior historically, unlike the Knicks), yet if they land two max stars, they'll be massive as well. This isn't a situation like Lebron winning a title with the Cavs. It's not even remotely similar. Matter of fact, Cavs are a small market team in an undesirable city, yet they still became the team that anyone who wasn't a Warriors fan rooted for. And Nets don't play in Iowa, we play in NYC, we are a big market team. Franchises become great & iconic by having all time great players who bring them success. KD could be that player for us, he could make the Nets a household name. There's absolutely no reason to have an inferiority complex that things can't ever change for us. Hypothetically, if KD were to bring a championship to Brooklyn, you don't think that would exponentially increase Nets' popularity and legacy? Like c'mon here.
You're one of the most agenda driven posters here and you need to stop pushing this **** every time. We get it, for some inexplicable reason, you think that KD should go to the Knicks. That doesn't make it true or have it make any more sense for us. I'm not even trying to be a homer here, I'm trying to be objective here. Sure, if the pieces fall in place (say if they get Zion and Kyrie commits to Knicks), then it makes sense. But until then, they're the worst team in the league with an underwhelming young core, a terrible management record for a long time, and arguably the worst ownership in the league.

Exactly.
Nets were 12th in attendance in 2013, 14th in 2014, 18th in 2015.
Knicks were 10th in attendance in 2013, 10th in 2014, tied for 10th in 2015, tied for 10th in 2016, 10th in 2017, 15th in 2018, 18th in 2019.
Both teams were 8-18 in December. The Knicks MSG ratings dropped 44% this season while the Nets increased to 22% after all-star break. Why such a steep drop? No Melo, No KP.
- 13 consecutive playoff home game sellouts since Barclays opened which never happened in NJ. Nets have never [not] sold out a playoff game in Brooklyn.
The Mavs and Bulls have never slipped in OVERALL season sellouts as they reign #1 and #2 for the last several years.
Prok, explain why the Knicks are not #1 in attendance along with the leading the league in ratings if they are such an untouchable grand marquee franchise and brand by itself? Dallas and Chicago has always beaten them in attendance and the Sacramento Kings are #3.
Also, Golden State has never once slipped out of the Top 10 in overall attendance even during rebuilding but aren’t even in the Top 5.
How sway?
Also, the merchandise conversation doesn’t even hardly exist because the Nets were Top 10 in attendance until 2016 when we were constantly shuffling no name players.
The Knicks are obviously still going to be a selling team but they fact they still had guys buying KP jerseys until mid-season trade also helped. They were hyping up a whole KD-KP team off the strength he named him a “unicorn”. Drafting a Top 10 pick will also help increase sales.
I’m sure nobody was lining up to buy a bunch of DeAndre Jordan or Mudiay jerseys.

-attendance numbers need to be consider with capacity.
-when the knicks are good, no NBA fanbase is more active or crazy.
even when the nets were in the finals the knicks still got more media attention
knicks are NY's team and if you win in NY nothing is bigger... especially since its been since the 70s. whoever wins with the knicks next will be immortalized the way Jeter and messier were.
that wont happen with the nets.

KD, Curry are genuine superstars in this league. Warriors have tons of bandwagon fans all around the world.
To have this ridiculous idea, that sports isn't driven by winning/success, glory hunting casual fans, its absurd. The casual sports fan doesn't give a **** about KD's legacy, they just care that he's a great player who wins. The 86 Mets would disagree with that. NY was a Mets town back then, and that team is still romanticized. Fans under 30 don’t have a history of Knicks success to look back on. There’s enough transplants in NYC, where a rabid fan base can grow organically for either team. Then there’s millions of fairweather fans that will show up in good times. The first basketball team to win a title and have some sustained success will own NYC.
Someone on the GB pointed it out. Dr. J and Kidd are synonymous with NJ. If KD joins the Nets, he’d be The Godfather, the only name you associate with Brooklyn basketball history.

No one gives a rats ass about the Knicks outside of New York.
Casual fans care about current wins and stars. If the Nets land Durant and start winning they will become a hot topic team around the country

What do you guys think of Aminu ? Plays good defense and is a good rebounder, also shoots the 3 a whole lot better than the beginning of his career, he's a respectable 34% 3 point shooter on 3.5 attempts. Has played a good role in Portland's success. I would much rather get DMC back but if not then Aminu wouldn't be a bad replacement. Maybe mid-level?

1- I don't believe KD and Kyrie coming to the Nets because Nix just much better for them money and publicity wise. Those two won and been anything NBA players want to be.
Kawhi and Kemba can team up and have Jerry West out there to provide the rest. Doc ain't bad coach and got ring to back it up.
2- Jimmy Butler been amazing surprise to me being a leader. All those talks him being cancer is out the window with his leadership and performance. I'd max him out and resign D.Lo while adding J.Randle.
3- Marc Gasol could be had with some maneuvering. Would be huge addition come playoffs.
4- Trade picks to create cap space. When you have Caris, D.LO, Kurucs, Musa, Dinwiddy and Pinson how much more players you need to look to improve.
