In all probability, we're stuck. BK continues to overpay in every deal he does and our remaining assets aren't likely to net us anything.

This is actually why I would still do the D12 for Brook deal.

Despite D12's injury status, there's still a chance that he regains his former dominant self and we'd be able to gain contender status.

Otherwise, we're 2nd round (maybe ECF at best) fodder for the Heat and other elite teams that rise in the near future.

Even after D12 signed the ETO, BK still had a chance to do things right. Instead, he panicked and led us into this situation.

Dwight for Lopez straight up would never happen.

And even if it does, I still say no. Lopez is better than Dwight offensively. And Dwight has been AWFUL defensively this season. Just terrible. As in better than Lopez, but not at an elite level.

Hes not a superstar anymore. Lopez is only 24, and is playing better than him this season. I just don't see why you guys think Dwight will make us a contender.

His injuries are getting worse, hes a PR disaster, and hes not playing well anymore. These injuries are not going away, they are only getting worse.

Done with Dwight. Pray Lopez becomes competent defensively, and the best scoring big man in the game.

For me I see Lopez's ceiling as a top 10 player. If he can stay healthy and keeps improving.

If Lopez can become a star in his prime, D-Will finds his groove, JJ and Wallace keep doin what they are doing, we find a defensive PF, and the bench is producing, I could see us with an outside shot at contending.

Listen, I have no problem with people saying no to a Lopez for Dwight trade because of Dwight's back issues and injuries, but...even 80 percent, his stats are still better than Brook's in most cases and the rest are near even. Except his free throw shooting, which is still atrocious.

Id swim the atlantic, buy a bike, strap Brooks into the front basket while folding Lopez up 3 times to tie him to my back and cycle them from Brooklyn across the States to LA if it meant we got Howard.

IDK, I'm a bigger believer in Brook than you are. I've been sold on this kid since his rookie year. He has the potential to be a star.

Dwight is getting worse, Brook is getting better. And hes only 24 years old.

Dwight is not going to be as good as he used to be. I say this because his injuries are career threatening and they keep happening.

If you take away Dwight's defense, he is no longer elite. And for me, hes not an elite defender anymore.

We all know that Dwight at pre-injury level is probably a top 3 player in the NBA. But I don't think he can do it anymore.

Coming back to a deal I had in mind in the past due to Kevin Love's injury set back.

Hump, Brooks and 2013 first for Kirilenko and Williams.

Wolves need a PF to cover for Love's absence while also gain a player in a position that has been a long term problem for the Wolves at guard. With Brooks added to Shved and Rubio the Wolves have a good guard rotation going forward.

Kirilenko would probably have to tell Wolves he was going to turn down his option if he isn't traded to a place he wants to sign ala Brooklyn for the trade to go through. Derrick Williams would be a fantastic prospect for us to add with no pressure to perform right away so gives him room to relax and find his game in the NBA.

D Will / Watson / Taylor
Johnson / Bogans / Stackhouse
Wallace / AK47 / Williams
Evans / Teletovic / Toko
Lopez / Blatche

Or could go small ball

Williams
Johnson
Kirilenko
Wallace
Lopez

Wolves aren't trading AK, and if they did, they'd get more for him than that.

Not when he controls his destination through his player option next season. He can opt out and sign for anyone this summer.

That's fine, but he can't come to the Nets. No one is going to believe a five million dollar bluff, which is what that would amount to for AK.

Well you guys are 13 and 23, what should I call you? So sensitive!

And thanks for coming clean immediately, I had Prince of the Palace having a conniption a week or so ago when I said the same thing, telling me that Singler is going to be somewhere between a great 7th man and an at least average starter. I'm like dude...

Hahahaha, I've told those guys plenty of times that Singler is a bum...I guess sometimes losing makes people basketball IQ low...You can call us re-building though, Dumars will get us back in the playoffs soon... 8-)

We're not talking about a normal NBA player here where money means everything. This is the guy who played for CSKA Moscow last season and donated every penny of his salary which was millions and even signed a 3 year deal when he signed for CSKA and was debating staying in Moscow the length of his deal. So he's not your normal guy.

Kirilenko actually debated signing for the vet min with Brooklyn for a long time but in the end couldn't justify turning down $10m per with Wolves. I have heard though that Kirilenko could be willing to opt out to sign for the exception with us. Don't understate the Russian link as well.

Like I said he really wanted to join Brooklyn before the huge offer from the Wolves but he is a friend of Prokhorov's and I believe he will be an option in the summer. But I don't see why AK cant say he is opting out of his deal in the summer to Khan and that he would prefer a trade to BKN.

Because if he's opting out no matter what, why wouldn't Khan send him to a team with the best package to offer? Literally, I can name a trade right now that would work better for the T-Wolves: trading with the Spurs. The Wolves need/want to re-sign Pekovic, they don't want Humphries, so they'd rather let AK walk if that was the case.

For the same reason teams wouldn't give up assets for Howard. Unless your sure AK would commit past the season why would you give up any assets for someone to play a couple of months with the team and walk?

Unless you're Billy King of course and trading a lottery pick for a player who planned to opt out of his last year of his deal.

You don't understand. This isn't a star player, teams don't and wouldn't give up a bundle of assets for him in order to get him. All they have to do is beat the Nets package, that's it.

Stephen Jackson's expiring and a first beats the Nets package. Why? Because Humphries has 12 million on the books next year. Would the Spurs trade that? They might. I think them with AK on the team makes them quite an interesting team, and could make them the favorite to at the very least come out of the west.

Wiz fan here ------ Really enjoyed watching Lopez last game against the Wiz. He is a joy to watch and btw, I wouldn't trade him for Howard. I do think you guys would have an outstanding team if you could add Nene or a player like him.

lol @ this trade for love thread on the knicks forum:

nykballa2k4 wrote:Love is down again in Minni. That team has players who could be something going forward, and it is nearly impossible to build around a player who is not healthy. Now is the time for a team like us to swoop in and see what we can do to get Love "on the cheap".

how can the Knicks accomplish this? Well, it might be a bit upsetting, but we might have to offer our nest-eggs.

Brandon Roy is still on the books in Minni, meaning his contract is a - value.

just playing around with the ESPN trade machine:

Knicks get:
Love, Barea, Roy

Wolves get:
Amare, Prigioni, Shumpert

I know for Knicks fans, this deal is hard to swallow as Shumpert has really been a guy of the city. There is no player in the league that you'd rather cheer for, and no Knick with as high of a ceiling as Shumpert. However, to get one must give.

yeah it would suck to get by far the best player in the deal AND dump one of the worst contracts in the NBA in the process.

Interesting tidbit from ESPN article on PJ. The specific section was PJ's comments on his lunch Proky:

"He didn't necessarily come out and say it with each one," Carlesimo said, "but it was, 'Is this a piece to us winning a championship? Is this guy a good starter at that spot right now, but not a guy we can win a championship with?' What Michael [Mikhail] said was, 'If this piece is not the right piece, we've got to go get the right piece.' That's excellent to hear, but it better happen sooner than later."

via http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_ ... l-incident

So we definitely have the right owner, but we don't have the right GM.

Such a shame Proky doesn't see how BK did not maximize his assets.

therealbig3 wrote:Well I guess the difference is...those other players all provide SOMETHING positive. So we can deal with their flaws if they're counteracting them and overcoming them with their positive contributions. I'm actually not really a fan of Watson based on what I've seen, I expected a lot more out of him, and I think pretty much everyone feels the same way. But he's also the only NBA-caliber backup PG we have, because Taylor is clearly not ready. And as disappointing as he's been...he still makes positive contributions. He's also a floor spacer that hits the 3 at a decent clip.

Stackhouse is still a good spot up shooter and so he also spaces the floor well, and he doesn't kill the offensive flow nearly as much as Marshon does.

Pretty much anyone else that's getting playing time...you can point to SOMETHING that they're doing well out there, and they don't have nearly the same amount of negative moments as Marshon does. And for a guy only playing 12 mpg to have more head-scratching, low IQ plays on both ends of the court than guys that are getting 15+ mpg, that means something is seriously wrong with the way Marshon is playing out there.

It's not a double-standard imo, it's just simply evaluating his performance compared to other players and determining who deserves playing time. He does more negative things than the other rotation players. On top of that, he's not contributing in any area of the game in any positive way. Is he good off the ball? No. Is he good on the ball? No. Does he serve as a floor spacer? No. Does he play defense? No. Does he play smart and under control? No. Does he read defenses properly? No. Does he make quick decisions with the ball? No.

You say he's our bail out guy with 8 seconds left because the offensive set was horrible...without mentioning the fact that most of the time, HE'S the guy that dribbled the air out of the ball for the first 12 seconds, and then gets it back 4 seconds later, and now looks like he's just bailing us out, when he's the one that killed the shot clock in the first place.

I honestly just can't deal with him anymore. He's had plenty of chances, and he's sucked every time. Even against Sacramento, he didn't really do anything that great. He took 14 shots and scored 15 points. He basically just got the green light to shoot, and took a bunch of shots. He has skills, such as his ball handling, his midrange shooting, and his quickness, and they all mainly contribute to his ability to score one on one...but the NBA is five on five basketball, and Marshon just doesn't seem to have the IQ to translate those skills to being useful in an NBA game.

Last year? Yes...This year? He hasn't even gotten that opportunity for majority of the criticisms that people threw at him last year to stick this year.

So...question...I was wondering what the Celtics do at this year's trade deadline. They look like they're getting better, but I think it's pretty delusional to think that they can contend this year. At best, they look like a 2nd round exit.

If they decide to blow it up, like they came close to last season, and say we have the opportunity to trade for Pierce, with Humphries, Brooks, and picks...do you do it based on talent alone, even though we have JJ and Wallace? Maybe make JJ the 6th man and start Pierce, or make Wallace the 6th man instead?

Just a thought, because trading for Rudy Gay was thrown around, and we were so close to acquiring Pierce last year anyway, and he's still a really good player, even though he doesn't fill the need for a starting PF.
