Your thoughts on Yi now that the season is over

I'm curious to know about everyone's thoughts on Yi's progression. I always thought he was another Keith Van Horn type of player at best, and I still think he is. Still though, he's to slow to guard most small forwards and not strong and aggresive enough to guard most power forwards so my question to you all is, should we give up on the Yi and trade him or should we keep him. I'm all for exploring our trade options, maybe a trade for Beasley since I read rumors he's on his way out of Miami, although i am skeptical of his character. If we keep him, I think it would be best for Yi to be a sixth man for the team. I can see him thriving against second units and fell he can benefit the team that way...Thoughts?

As you said, i think we should explore our trade options. I'm all for trading him, he´s too incosistent and also too soft. I think we could try to trade him at draft night for a late 1st round and draft a defensive type power forward like either Larry Sanders or Jarvis Varnado, or trade him for a defensive power forward with experience in the league.

Speaking of RJ, looks like he isn't a great fit in San Antonio. Sad to see him playing on that level, i believe he hasnt been the same player since being dealt to Milwaukee.

While I certainly don't mind the trade that netted him, my thoughts on Yi are...the dude sucks. I'm sorry, he does.

At this point in time I don't mind giving him another year with a real coach if he can duplicate his physical development like he did from last year to this year he can still improve.

As surprising as it may be Yi was actually one of the LEAGUE LEADERS amongst power forwards in free throw attempts per game =D

I dont think they'd trade us Lou Admundson for Yi let along Frye. I remember reading that Frye will opt out anyway to look for more money.

And my thoughts on Yi after the season are that he will either make it as a back-up center or be out of the league within 3 years. Hopefully it wont be with the Nets.

Backup PF ok, but Yi is most definitely not and will never be a center.

Why is that? He's played plenty of C this season and definitely did not look any worst then he did playing PF. He can handle defensive match-ups much better vs Centers since it keeps him close to the basket.

Am I the only person who thinks Yi would excel in PHX's offense? Some players are good no matter where they play and some players need certain systems to excel and I think that is Yi. I could be wrong, but I would like to see him here in Phoenix. Kinda doing the same thing Frye has, but driving to the hoop more.

That is just me though.

^^^^

I posted early that I thought he'd be very good in a triangle offense like LA's. I thought I added GSW and PHX as well but I can't remember. I agree though. But it is sad though...we think he'd be good in Phoenix because of their open offense focus and LACK of defense lol.

Had some fun with the trade checker... Here is a list of names that workout straight-up on trade checker for Yi:

1. Michael Beasley
2. Brandan Wright
3: Jordan Hill
4. Corrie Brewer
5. Kevin Love
6. Ramon Sessions
7. Ryan Gomes
8. Dahntay Jones
9. CJ Miles
10. Brandon Bass

If we could land Brandon Wright or Kevin Love, I'd be happy. Every other person (even Ryan Gomes who I like) I am luke warm on.

Al Jefferson isn't going anywhere and with the Darko resigning with Minnesota rumors getting more loud by the week, getting Kevin Love for Yi may not be impossible...

As for Brandon Wright, he is coming off an injury and with Randolph starting to shine, I think they could pull the trigger for Yi, especially since Golden State as well has a large asian community.

Kevin Love for Yi?! :o

Al Jefferson is likely to be the one gone if they can get value for him IMO anyway.

Brandon Wright for Yi is actually one I could see having legs, although GSW fans will vehemently deny that it has any substantial chance.
