Sixer Fan, A question?
As you've probably heard that Doug Collins will soon be the coach of the Sixers.
But what you probably haven't heard is that Lawerence Frank most likely will be his lead assistant.
So tell us more about Lawerence Frank, what type of coach is he?

I wouldnt be surprised by this. If we could have demoted Frank to lead assistant, I wouldnt have bashed Frank as much. Since we couldnt, Frank sucks as a Head Coach. Lead Assistant was what he always was.

Everything you'd want in an assistant coach, but doesn't have what it takes to be a head coach. He's a player's coach sort of, which as a head coach was a letdown since the veterans would walk all over him. Had a problem playing rookies, but in his defense, a lot of our rookies stunk also. Preaches defense, but had no ability to have his team run it on the court. He'll spend countless hours on tape though and he'll tell you how to stop the next team you're facing, but again, had no ability to have the team execute the gameplan.

Not a good one.

I'm in the minority. I think Frank is a very good head coach. He's a very good X's & O's guy & a tireless worker. He's very much a player's coach & favors veterans. He will empower the team's captains/best players with a lot of authority & responsibility (sometimes too much). That works well for a veteran squad, but does not work well for a rebuilding team.
Personally, I think Collins is horrifically overrated. I'd say expect him to last 2 years & change, get the ax, & then watch Frank take over the HC role.

While I don't think Frank is an especially good head coach, I don't see why he would jump so quickly for an assistant job, especially on a team as bad as Philly.

i'm not sure a new jersey fan can call another team a "bad team".

Anyone can call anyone a bad team if they are a bad team. The thing is, everyone KNEW the Nets were going to be bad. Some thought they'd be slightly better than they were...some also thought we won more games than originally expected.
Bottom Line: If the team is a bad team, anyone should be able to say so. A Nets fan doesn't look like a hypocrite for saying that. We KNOW we're bad, but we still have a right to state what other teams are in the same "Bad Boat" with us. Sixers definitely have a spot on board that ship.

I've said it before too, if Frank can get his players to buy into his Defensive philosophy, his defense works. Even with Vince, we would grind out games with our defense. It's hard to drive that home with young kids though like we had last year.
I honestly don't read too much into Philly sports because I hate their fanbase with a passion, but how is the leadership on that team with IGGY. Does Brand contribute to the leadership at all? That's another thing, Frank has to be in sync (as any coach really does) with the player leadership.
He is an effective coach though. I think he's better suited for college, but as the defensive assistant in the NBA, I really do believe any team would be lucky to have him. When he was an assistant, we made excellent half time adjustments. It's when he had to think about the WHOLE aspect of the game, he let things fall apart.

When Yi is your starting PF, I can't necessarily blame him for hitting the bottle.
