Nets to make serious run at CP3?

Well this would be the splash we were all hoping for.

http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_100607.html

#3, Yi, and (T-Will or C.Lee) for CP3

Would you do it? Who would you rather lose T-Will or C.Lee? Also I would like to maybe just keep going with them and try to get either West (who is a Newark boy) or Okafor to play PF for us. Maybe Harris, CDR, #27. Salaries won't have to match so it could be done. I would have to check on the remaining cap space hopefully we have some left to get someone like Korver to play SF (which would be a huge hole) assuming T-Will is in the deal.

CP3
C.Lee
Korver
West/Okafor
Lopez

What do you guys think? I think it's a no brainer that is a playoff team. Let me check on the cap after the CP3 deal and see what I can come up with.

OK some quick # crunching rounding for ease. If we did #3, Yi, T-Will for CP3 we would have 6 players on the books next season at a total of appox 33 mil with 3 mil in cap holds for 6 spots, Dooling buyout, and #27 (which I estimated at 2 mil) but i think it's less anyway. That leaves us with

CDR- 1 mil
Harris - 9mil
Hump - 3.5
C.Lee - 1.5 mil
Lopez - 3 mil
CP3 - 14 mil
#27 - 2 mil
#31 - 1 mil

If the cap is at 54 mil then we have about 19 mil remaining in cap space to sign a max (17 mil) plus a SF (shooter) for 2 mil.

Then trade Harris for #10 and Ford which leaves us with

CP3
C.Lee
#10 Paul George
Amare (max guy)
Lopez

Bench
#27
#31 (one of those might be included in the CP3 deal though)
CDR
Hump
Korver (with reamaining 2 mil)
plus a few vet min contracts

Can we pull it off and make me a happy man. Not sure if I got everything covered but I think my numbers are right so it should work.

That is a good/young team, thoughts?

If they're after Paul, then its all engines forward for Lebron.

And, as for the question of "would I do it?" I would drive T-Will, Yi, and the 3rd pick to New Orleans myself.

I'm still very scared of his injury. So i'm 50/50.

I will put Yi, the Third pick and C. Lee(I like Twill more)on my back and carry them myself to new orleans if that's what it took...

Btw, the general consensus is that this rumor is full of **** and has zero credibility.

Agreed. The story talks about making a "young core" yet Chris Paul is 25!

Now getting Paul to be patient for a year may be difficult, but if you can, they are in position to add that impact player(s) he's seeking. As of now, the Hornets are likely in position to be $10-12 million under the cap in 2011/12 (assuming West opts out and they decline Wright's option). If you could get expirings for Okafor and/or Posey (extra incentive will be needed with Posey though), they can easily have max cap space to go with a core of Paul, Thornton, two lottery picks (2010 and 2011) plus whatever you can get for Collison and West in trades.

Yup. This is from Sam Smith. Dude has more hair brained trade schemes then me, Ecuhus and DevilsJets7 put together.
He has some interesting ideas a lot of times, but it seems he passes these ideas of his off as actual rumors.

I thought a Chris Paul to NJ trade had a lot more credence if we had gotten the 1st or 2nd overall pick and if the Hornets were still owned by Shinn. I won't say it's out of the question, but I will say it's highly unlikely. I think we would be absorbing Posey in any Chris Paul trade as well.

I will say I think it has to be an honest and legitimate concern, but I would still ultimately pull the trigger on it as long as our medical staff OK'ed him and he passed the physical.

would you do it? hell yeah.

If I am New Orleans I would rather take Bosh + Derozan +13 over #3, yi, twill/lee.

What's your point? Why would Bosh EVER agree to go to a Paul-less New Orleans?!

If Paul was healthy, I do this in a heartbeat...his injury really makes me think about this though. I think I would do the deal when it's all said and done..but his injuries definitely make it harder to pull the trigger. Also, he can bolt in 2 yrs.

The Devin Harris sign and trade with Johnson is something I would pass on too..Harris is a bargain for his contract and I would rather try our luck on Melo becoming a free agent next summer.

I would carry the luggage BC. Are sure we couldn't catch some empty freight container down to the french quarters?

Paul will never be traded for that. Start with Harris, Lopez, and the 3rd, and then there might be something to talk about.

You want a future #1 and blow jobs from Net cheerleaders every time the Hornets visit?

I'd be willing to trade almost anything but Lopez and Twill to get Paul, although ive been reading some scary things about his knee. If your looking for a way to show FA's your serious about winning, a move like this is definately the way to do it.

Yeah, I was checking into this myself today after reading some stuff on the other site and learned that he actually had one of his meniscuses removed from the knee he injured. It doesn't necessarily mean he will be greatly effected now, but it highly enhances the chances he will need further knee surgery, possibly even micro fracture within the next maybe 5 years or so.
Scary stuff indeed.

My fault. Obviously too much, but I don't see the Hornets trading CP3 unless they get really good value in return. He revitalized their franchise, and if they were to lose him for the 3rd pick and role players, the fan base would lose all hope. People forget that he is the best point guard in the league just because he was injured this year. I doubt the Hornets make a trade unless they get Harris and Lopez in return. You may think that's asking a lot, but think about it for a second. That would immediately raise your chances of obtaining a major free agent and you can draft a solid player with the 3rd pick.

So what do you think about the concerns about his injury. Playing bone on bone, holding up over 82 games, and the very likely possibility of a micro-fracture surgery in the future. He wasn't exactly setting the league on fire when he returned from surgery this year either.

^^^Not even that, the writer Sam Smith made a really good point. New Orleans is not going to be making money for a while. Also, the Hornets is stuck with a bunch of bad contracts and they can't make upgrades this off-season. Pretty soon Chris Paul is gonna ask for a trade and his contract is up in two years. Not to mention he got injured this year as well. His is just getting lower and lower

Which is a somewhat rationale argument.... until he proposes trading West for Hinrich's bigger contract and a non-lottery 1st rounder.
