That's the same thing that came to mind soon as I saw the article...damn it Rod, give us one more year to bridge the gap!

If this is true...seriously bad news. And bad timing. Hopefuly someone jumped the gun and he is still deciding. I think he has to know that this is going to hurt us.

I expect us, or even Rod Thorn, to get Pritchard a call.

With that said, notice he's retiring July 15, even though his contract ends June 30th. This rebuild was Thorn's baby. I think he wants to at least see it through before he walks away. I think he is trying to work some deals and whatnot and doesn't want to leave the team without a paddle up the stream.

Either way, I love Rod. It's sad to see him go.

Nets general manager Rod Thorn and coach Avery Johnson will also make the trip, but Thorn has decided to leave his job and retire in July. He hasn’t been happy with the pay cut the new owner has offered, and he also feels that at 69 years old his appetite for the job’s grind has diminished.

Nets ownership will try to move quickly on a replacement, and sources say potential targets will include Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti, New Orleans GM Jeff Bower and San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford. Nets assistant GM Bobby Marks, who has drawn interest in the Portland Trail Blazers’ search, is a strong candidate, too.

Well, maybe this will pick everyone's spirits up: Jay-Z has secured that the Nets are the first team that Lebron will see in Akron. Could be good, could be bad.

I'm very skeptical right now.

I know he will sign one of the big 4 free agents if possible and I don't want him to be reckless, but I have a feeling our new Russian friend isn't this European Mark Cuban super owner we envisioned.

I see Jeff Bower mentioned on that list.

I know where he lives in the New Orleans area. I'll go pack his bags for you guys and buy him the plane ticket. Just want to do you all a solid.

Jeff Bower is better then he's given credit for, he's made some under the radar moves that have been greatly unappreciated.

Wow is Thorn serious? I'm very very skeptical of this as well. Thorn had very strong interest in returning just before Prokhorov became the owner so he could turn this franchise around. Unless his health has taken a turn for the worst, I suspect he's disappointed with his contract and figured with his family pressuring to retire he'd might as well do it.

This can definitely hurt whatever little chance we had at making a "big splash" come free agency. I hope he comes out and publicly denies this report.

I love Thorn, he served us very well and the fact that he’s leaving hurts.
However a high profile replacement could help us in FA that much.

A Jerry Colangelo can help this franchise so much.

From afar, it looks like the Ruskie is cleaning house. The coach, the GM, the President, all are being replaced. And I get the vibe of early Steinbrennner, an owner who doesn't understand the limits of the league and the cap and is going to be impatiently firing people right and left - in this case, deciding Thorn isn't his guy because he's never won a title before (my take on his thinking) in years of being a GM.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the quotes where he's expecting to have a dynasty in 5 years makes me think I've got it right. We'll see.

The coach was fired mid year...Kiki was an interim. He gave Rod full discretion to hire who he wants. he absolutely wants Rod back. Kiki's fate as GM was not going ot happen the second he moved down to the bench and we won all of 12 teams. We have all seen that before.

No question....Proky over time is going to put in people he trusts...but Rod was going to be the man for a couple of more years...full discretion. Unlike Steinbrenner...this is not his livlihood. Its his hobby. An investment yes...but he has a reputation of almost never attending games of other teams he has owned if that is any indication.

All the local guys who actually cover the team are saying...this is about being 69 years old and the family pressure to retire. I trust them over a douche like Mitch Lawrence who probably wouldnt know how to get to the meadowlands or the new stadium in Newoark without his GPS.

Now, of course...it could also be not liking all the extra faces around.....having to train the newbies, having to answer to some....but al indications are...he may just be ready to retire...no drama.

Hopefully, we dont get impulse spending should we fail to get Lebron...that of course would be the worst thing later. Either way...have to hope Rod either says....i am staying and signs a deal in the next few days...or they find a great replacement.
