Rudy Gay?

Hello Nets fan, Bulls fan here...
Just wondering what you guys think of Rudy Gay being signed by the Nets. Personally, (even with the recent reports) I do not think LeBron will be on the Nets (or the Bulls) - I think he'll resign with the Cavs. Basically the only weakspot for your team is SF. I know this means nothing, but I was playing 2K10 and selected a random team to play a dynasty with... I got the Nets. Signed Rudy Gay in the off-season. Basically the combo of Harris-Gay-Lopez was amazing.
With your new rich owner, I wouldn't be surprised if you match and raise the Griz offer for Gay.
How's this lineup sound:
Harris
Lee
Gay
Favors
Lopez
Thoughts? Sorry if this was already discussed in an earlier thread.

Rudy Gay basically won't be signed by the Nets, regardless if we strike out (probably). This is because we'd never sign Gay before we know where Lebron and Bosh are going because it would tie up our cap space due to him being an RFA, which would give a team like the Clippers or the T-Wolves time to go after Gay if they felt like it. Though, maybe with the Wolves and the Clippers' draft selections, perhaps they don't have a need for Gay.

Wait, that didn't quite make sense to me. Why would the Nets not sign him regardless of striking out in FA because its before Lebron or Bosh? If we strike out with Lebron, and we will, i'd be open to Gay, cap should matter at that point. Those other teams can have extra time to go after him, who cares. I'm sure everyone will know where the big FAs are destined to sign way before someone even calls Rudy Gay.

...because it would restrict our cap during the week that Memphis has to match. So, regardless of your feelings that Lebron/Wade/whatever is a pipe dream, the front office will not sign Gay to an offer sheet until after Lebron and Wade are off of the market. By that time, Minnesota, who just barely has enough room for a max slot and therefore probably will not be going after Lebron or Wade, would have presumably signed him by then, and would just be waiting for Memphis to either match or not. Unless the max free agents sign exactly on July 8th, I just don't see how Rudy Gay is still on the market by the time we turn our attention to him, if we ever do. But, like I said, perhaps with the addition of Wes Johnson, the T-Wolves don't go after Gay, leaving him to another team who strikes out on the bigger free agents.

I dont understand why you are making a big deal out of Rudy Gay waiting to make up his mind for a week. No issues in waiting till Lebron is off the market then going after him. I'm sure Gay is not gonna be jumping on the 1st contract offered him by Minnesota of all places.

Being that he (or someone close to him) said that Minnesota will have to overpay him to get him to go there, I doubt he wouldn't jump on the contract if they offered it to him. Pay him 14 million a year, and see if he doesn't jump on it; he'd be a fool to pass it up. Like I said, I don't think they will anymore because of Wes Johnson, but it is a possibility.

If someone wants to pay him $14mil then they can have him. Doesn't matter to me if they make that deal on the 1st day of free agency or the last.

Since Gay is a restricted free agent, Memphis has 7 days to match once he signs an offer sheet, During that 7 day period, the team that signed him to an offer sheet has their cap space tied up in that offer sheet. We wont even look at him until after Lebron and the other guys figure out what they are doing.

As I have been saying for weeks now, other media people are now saying as well. Memphis has the situation it wanted. They dont want to give him the loner contract. So...they will eithr match and keep him for a reasonable deal...or someone will over pay him with an ugly front loaded deal. they wont match...but work compesation by doing an S&T deal if possible.
If they lose him because he got an absurd deal..then that is their out. Either way...as i have been trying to say...Rudy is a BAD fall back option. Not worth overpaying him, or giving up picks.prospects for the right to do so...and the grizz will absolutely take their full 7 days of critical signing time...as other free agents move on to other suitors.
I have said it over and over...he is NOT the target we should be talking about. And none of this has anything to do with his talent, fit or what I think of the player. it has to do with the issues regarding signing RFA's. Unless its your last big piece and you are willing to over pay...then you should stay away.

I don't even think I would want to sign him as a fall back option if he's still available.

Nope.
Serious chucker mentality as well and a bad defender with little playmaking skills.
Maybe Avery could transform him, but I doubt it.

I think Gay and Lee would be the perfect offseason.

We have enough money right now to grab Gay and a max free agent. I think we should go after Gay and Johnson so we can be set on the wings. With TWill and C. Lee coming off the bench and Favors in the frontcourt, we'd have the most athletic team in the NBA. Devin and the crew would run teams out of the gym.
