bye bye "the Yi player"

Hoppefully we will trade for Seraphin and let him stay in Europe for a season.

I really hope it's for Kevin Seraphin so we could stash him overseas this year and (I could be wrong but I don't think he would count against the cap).

Not only that but I was super high on him coming into the draft he is in the mold of Favors. 6-9 268lbs excellent rebounder, good shotblocker, runs the floor, super athletic but raw offensively. He was a lotto pick in most mocks.

This would be a great trade, but it will probably wind up being for Ross though. The other guy metioned was Lazar Hayward (not the same potential as Seraphin but does fill a need because he can shoot it).

You're not getting Seraphin for Yikes, so put down the pipe. You'll likely get Ross (who sucks) but is an expiring deal. Plus the Nets will also send cash. They should also send at least a 2nd round pick or two, but given the fact that the Wizards GM Ernie Grunfeld isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, you may get away with not having to send that also.

I think a rook stashed overseas counts against the cap as a cap hold....and that hold is based on where he was drafted...so 17th pick...1.3mil. Of course, you dont pay him which is the draw...but I do think you still have the hold.


I absolutely expected us to dump Yi if we cant make a big trade involving Devin (see Paul)...but I was hoping all we took back was a future pick. Complete cap savings. if we have to takde back salary, we didnt deal Dooling, so that means we are on the hook cap wise for the 500K of Dooling's buyout. Why does this matter?

Q.Ross is the lowest salary the Wizards have....which is why he is in there (1.15mil). Sp put him in...that's another 680K we lose in cap room (his salary less the 470K cap hold).

The last move left to make is Hump for cap room. Lets assume for a sec that the Nets have a taker from an under the cap team for his 3.2mil or someone with a TE...whatever and we get the full 3.2 off the books. However we have to do it. Send 3mil in cash, give them a second rounder...whatever. lets assume we gain nothing from it but the space for argument sake.

7 players left, 5 cap holds. I always deduct one...because we will gain 1 the second e sign the first guy. So..4 holds. That leaves 33.189mil in cap space. Give Lebron 16.8 mil under the current pojected cap and with those 4 cap holds left...16.359mil to offer the second guy. Short 450K plus raises. Does it matter? Hopefully not. Perhaps Lebron and tthe other guy...lets call him Bosh for now....split the difference and each take 225K less....done.

But...I admit even though its chump change..I would feel better to have that extra cash. Dooling traded or....taking back zero salary for Yi would make me feel better.


Now I havent done a chart for the Bulls yet....the team I believe is our top competition...so give me a sec here....

Am I seeing this? I have been simply assuming that Hinrich got the Bulls to 34mil in space because everyone keeps reporting it as room for two max contract.

But if I am using the right numbers.....they get to $30,396,550!!!! (again charging the for one less cap hold they would gain after signing their first guy.

WOW! If that's true...we move Hump...and we have it...there...DONE. I wont be sweating the 480K!

I for one is glad he's gone. Now hopefully we could ship Hump off somewhere for more cap space and we'll be set for 2 max contracts. It's looking like we may just keep Favors after all.

Regarding the bulls, since the max varies with player experience, 2 Max is vague

The media report of 2 max has been mis interpretted as "Bulls can sign any 2 FA to max", which is not true.

Trade Yi and lets hope there is a Hump deal already set up. Now the first thing I thought of when we opted to waive Dooling on the same day Hump announced he was opting in was that we have a taker for Hump. Why? Because we could have traded Dooling all along but we could not have dealt Hump under th terms of each of their contracts.

Salary wise its moving one year at 3.8 compared to one year at 3.2 for Hump. Dooling traded without taking salary back saves only 500K in cap space over what we can get on our own. Hump dealt without taking back salary...saves the entire 3.2 mil. Now a week ago...I had read that the Nets were close to moving Dooling in a trade.

In my thinking...say we found ONE trade partner that made the most sense for us. if you had to chose who was more important to get off the books? HUMP. had he opted out...you dont have to do jack...just deal Dooling and save the extra 500K as well.

But on the same day Hiump says I am opting in....with time to spare Dooling bought out? A decisive move says to me...they have one deal. It will be Hump with cash going...perhaps a second rounder for your trouble. Either use the cash to buyout Hump and it cost you 200K (and one year of cap space at 3.2) for a future second rounder...or keep the player who costs you 200K for the year and have a future second rounder anyway. Seems like a good deal to me.


Now I could be reaching. The negative way to look at this is...we couldnt find a taker for ether and 30-31 mil after moving Yi is the best we can do....go shopping...but I have to tell ya...I dont think so. i think Rod has it.

As for a possible S&T or a larger trade...I dont see that either now...because I have to think Dooling was a better filler contract than Hump since he was off the books for the other team for only 500K and he made an extra 600K...so more salary to make up the match in a deal.

To me...putting it all together...I see this as exactly what I said we woudl try to do months ago. Dooling 1, Yi 2, Hump step 3....and we have just about all the room needed for two max.

And we did it without dumping core players like the Bulls, Heat or Knicks did. We did it while keeping our first round pick...something none of them did. if we did this...we did it while taking TWO qulaity picks in this draft including the BEST big on the board at #3 overall. think about that for a sec.

While the Knicks, Bulls, and Heat all got WORSE since the season ended...we will have gotten better. We lose non integral pieces. They lose Hinrich, David Lee, Harrington, Nate....the entire Heat roster not named Wade....and all their first round picks. If we pull this off...we will have the cap room that only the Knicks have...while still having a proven all star claiber PG, and the best up and coing center in the NBA...the best big man in the draft....and a couple of really nice back up swingmen who are absolutely quality NBA prospects to have to either develop or trade later.

We can deliver the big market Miami cant do with the NY move. We can give more cash than the Bulls unless of course someone will take Deng in an S&T ad then think about that...even if he doesnt fit with Lebron there...you just give Deng and Hinrich away? That is part of your recruting pitch?

You know???? After listening to ESPN these last two days...I have eaten an awful lot of muffins to mask my stress as they suck the ass of Chicago and the Heat. Sure...I know better than to listen to those dopes. They are selling the sexy...and right now...we arent the sexy story....but seeing the numbers...hearing the rumors...really feeling it again.

One other foot note. I have been skeptical abut Bosh coming here. But, I am really skeptical about this theory he will take less to be a number 3 in MIami???? if anything he is the guy who NEEDS more. He isnt getting endorsement deals in Miami as a #3 guy.

Plus...he has said flat out...NOT playing center. Well...the one team he wont have to do that with is US. No question. And he wont be asked to take significantly less based on projections from what I just came up with here. Could the nets go...Damion Jones and two future first rounders to S&T Bosh? and BOOM there is your EXACT 16.8 mil needed? Seriously...to the PENNY. Bosh gets his FULL contract with the extra year...Raps who are open to an S&T get something for their trouble....and we are stocked?????

I think the two max game is speaking to two of the 7-9 year guys which is 16.8 each.

Lee is the one guy entitled to less. But the rest CAN get to more. Dirk is 10+ so way more.

Clearly...if the goal is two of the 16.8...you need to be in the 34mil range and the Bulls CANNOT get there. If the Nets can...boom.

If they wouldn't take DJ I would do T-WIll, Hump, GS pick, our 1st next year, and 3 mil

Why they get something for Bosh who would leave otherwise T-Will can fill a multiple postition bench role for them, the cash pretty much covers Hump's salary so they won't be getting killed there and he is a decent player/rebounder (not totally useless), and the get multiple picks one of which could be a lotto pick (GS).

Sure I would love to keep T-WIll and give up DJ instead but if we had to make it Will then we have no choice.

Since I am too lazy to do the make it a picture and post it on a second site...I just copy and past my spreadhseets right in and then edit it to make it line up. See the numbers I posted on the last page. HH was the source. Feel free to chart what I did...and we can discuss how I got there. again...I always deduct ONE cap hold to determine what is truly possible since you gain one after you fill the spot.

Also, if you can use another site to compare since HH doesnt factor in the likely and unlikely bonus.
