RJ Opts Out

Post#1 » by RJ 24 » Thu Jul 1, 2010 1:00 am

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... _contract/

I'm quite surprised he did this as he will never receive a contract of this magnitude again. Always liked RJ as the name implies and he was usually a smart kid, but c'mon man.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on the Magic for their full MLE.

RJ must have really hated playing for Pop. I mean I think it's a given that RJ probably still thinks he's an all star but he has to know at this point there is no way he gets that kind of money again. Would be lucky to get that sum in a multi-year deal.

This is honestly some short bus ****.
I don't see him getting anything more then 3 for 25 and that might be a wild stretch.

Seriously, I have to touch on this again.
How can you turn down that amount of money?!
Was it that bad?!
Did you wake up to Tim Duncan and Pop in your bedroom with loaded shotties?
This is unexplainable!

RJ might actually enjoy that in the proper context. Maybe he's mad cause that didn't happen?

I think RJ still has something in the tank. I don't think I am crazy either. He played well after Kidd was traded for Devin at the end of 2008-2009. I just looked up his stats and our Ws and they were pretty solid then.

I think we should speak to him. He is only 30 and can spread the floor. If we can grab him on the cheap (3-5+ million a year) I think we should bring him in after we sign our two main pieces. Maybe we use the Midlevel exception on him??

If Ray Allen stays in Boston we need a decent shooter. Believe it not RJ can hit a 3 but his main asset is his ability to get to the line, play within a defensive system, and take smart high percent shots (look at his FG%!). If we can grab Lebron and Bosh he could be a great 6th/7th man or solid 3/4th option on offense for the starting 5.

Think about this dream of a scenario:

PG - Devin
SG - RJ/C Lee
SF - Lebron
PF - Bosh
C - Lopez
6th TWILL
7th C Lee/RJ
8th Favors
9th D James
TBD
TBD
TBD

That is a pretty solid team with a pretty promising bench.

Guy's RJ opted out help the spurs cut or get under the luxury tax. He will explore his options. Sources say he is looking at nets and knicks 8-10 mill per over 5 years. Now I'm not saying he is worth that or we should get him just filling you guy's in. Word has is the spurs are going "take care of him" for opting out at around 7 mill per over 5 years. Or back load his contract.

Cheers

RJ can spread the floor? He completely killed the Spurs spacing. That was actually his biggest problem there.

I would not want RJ on this team for 3 million let alone 8. But this is sort of something we might have to look forward to if we strike out with Lebron.
