Hi Nets fans,

I'm here to ask what you guys think of Sean Williams. I think his combination of size and athleticism is very intriguing, and definitely worth a look for our rebounding problems.

I know he's been a headcase, but keep in mind we have the only guy in the league who made the biggest baby cry.

What are your thoughts?

PS. Can't wait to see Favors in the summer league game. I think his ceiling is Dwight Howard AND some.

When he was with the Nets he was always off balance and falling all over the place (strength issues) but he was a phenomenal shot blocker, for someone who makes such poor decisions off the court Sean really had a knack for blocking the ball off the backboard and to teammates instead of into the 10th row.

In regards to his rebounding... Like many young players Williams DOES NOT consistently box out his man so he's not very reliable when it comes to rebounds.

If he makes the Celtics roster I think one thing Sean will benefit from is having a small well-defined role and a point guard that will take the thinking away from on the offensive end (similar to Sean's first year when he played with Jason Kidd).

Not really sure what else I can add, Sean is just a giant enigma, look at these stats from his first three years in the league they make no sense whatsoever:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... ise01.html

True Shooting %:
2007-2008: .563
2008-2009: .465
2009-2010: .453

Total Rebound %:
2007-2008: 14.6
2008-2009: 12.9
2009-2010: 11.7

Turnover %:
2007-2008: 16.1
2008-2009: 18.9
2009-2010: 25.9

For some reason Sean got WORSE each year, and it's not like he suffered any major injuries.

Thanks for your contribution. I see Sean Williams being very similar to Serge Ibaka in terms of impact.

Perhaps a change of scenery is what he needs. Like you said, playing with Rondo should elevate his game to the next level.

Well in regards to Sean vs. Serge... Sean is much more of a finesse player around he rim even though he needs to be a power player. Athletically Sean probably has a higher vertical and larger wingspan, but I'm not really sure who is faster down the court. Sean kind of gallops with these long strides, Ibaka has more of a traditional running style... Working in tight spaces Sean is a turnover machine he often wants to AND does put the ball on the floor but this ends in him taking some wacked out jumper or hookshot that has no chance of going in which is in stark contrast to Ibaka who plays within himself and has much better mechanics on all of his moves... Defensively Sean has trouble establishing and holding position but makes for an adequate pick-and-roll + help defender because he's so long that he can recover even when his man gets a step or two on him, Ibaka does a better job of holding his ground...

There might be some similarities between the two but I think you should downgrade your expectations, a worse offensive but better defensive Hakim Warrick is basically what you have in present day Sean Williams.

I haven't seen Sean play much, so I'll take your word for it.

Perhaps Sean is just trying to establish himself in the Net's rotation, trying to do much? Ibaka knows his role on that Thunder team, so he can play with a level of comfort and confidence. That might just be the difference.

A poor man's Hakim Warrick is better than many options we have.
