Dont Panic Just Yet
Obviously we all wanted an Amare, Gay, Or Joe J. Every star is pretty much already off the market who is decent. First things first we are going to have to sign David Lee. We are going to have to over pay him now because we are desperate and he certainly he going to take advantage of it, but there is no way we can walk into next season with that same line up.
We need to be picking up guys like mike miller right now, and I wouldnt even mind seeing Shaq.
When I say dont panic, it means we are going to need to fight it out intill halfway into next season when teams like ( the only recent thing I can remember im sure there have been plenty) when people like Camby get traded for a second round pick. We need to wait...dont blow our cap space now and see if we can get players which teams are trying to dump later on in the season.
Our time Will come...
F Lebron.

You're not really a realist, I consider you more of a pessimist. We had all the required tools for a shot at the top free agents, why not go for them and be optimistic about it? We do have a chance, we can compte for their signature, the only thing holding us back would be the player themselves. So in theory, we're being the realists, because it is realistic that we can get Lebron.
I was actually going to post the same thing Jeff posted, but I'll also add will you be willing to pay Gay $86million? If you say yes to that, then you my friend, deserve an E-slap
EDIT: I'd also like to say, I wouldn't mind seeing TWill start next year, push him along his progression. (If we strike out obviously)

Re: Dont Panic Just Yet
A realist would approach losing free agents this way:
Instead of overpaying a GROSS amount for a guy who will not get us over the hump, they will continue the course originally set forth...a true rebuild. We, unlike the Bulls, Heat, and Knicks did not sacrifice our long term future for short term success. We preserve our cap space, we have a very good coaching staff in place and are planning on brining in an experienced GM or promote Thorn's best pupil. We have a young player with upside at every position now, but we will continue to monitor the field to see where we can improve without hindering our long term plans of building the Nets brand.
Why are we getting pissy and have this strong desire to over pay players to become no better than a 2nd round out?
This logic baffles me that we need to spend money on the likes of Joe Johnson.

I'm trying my hardest to be nice in my response to this thread, so instead of coming up with a long winded reply of my own that I have stated time and time again or a short sarcastic comment, I will just agee with Treiz 100%.

As a fall back plan?
Sure.
But not for Favors.
Something like Harris and future picks for sure though. I think it makes more sense then some will admit or realize. Paul George is your future and you need a young, fringe All Star point guard and you have few assets. Harris makes a ton more sense then a lot of other options as he is signed on the cheap for 3 more seasons.
On the other hand, only makes sense to NJ if they have another trade lined up of Favors, filler and a TPE for Chris Paul and a bad contract like Posey.

Would you trade Favors for George if we strike out with LBJ and sign Boozer or Lee????Just wondering

Favors for George? That's a no go. If we wanted George, we would have just picked him.

I would love to run a form of the Triangle with Twill running the point. Ron Harper did it very well when he played with Jordan in that system.
I still don't want to give up Favors for Granger though lol. I'm not uber high on Favors but I'm in no mood to give up on him this early just for Danny Granger.

Re: Dont Panic Just Yet
I wouldn't trade Favors for George. Favors is one of the 4 players I would have taken over George, the other 3 being Wall, Turner and Cousins.
Now that I think about it, I think I would trade Harris for Granger even if we didn't have another trade lined up for Chris Paul, I would just sign Luke Ridnour and let him and T Will share the point for now and the future if it worked. But it's no guarantee we could get Ridnour and that throws somewhat of a monkey wrench in the game. I am pretty much against any trades that take us to a pretneder level this season, but I feel Granger is something of a special player.
That would be a nice lineup though assuming we struck out on Lebron and a future trade for Paul would still be something that might be possible without giving up the farm...

I think it's about that time.
It's alright, I don't think we ever had as good a chance as it seemed, I think we made a lot of the right moves and put ourselves in strong position to be true players in the game.
In the end, that's all you can ask. It's up to the player to choose his own path, whether that path seems wrong to us or not.
I personally have not conceded defeat yet though. We still have a punchers chance.

Re: Dont Panic Just Yet
Just for fun, not that I think we're totally out, but just for fun, this what if dream:
We are a little worse last year and get Curry instead of T-Will. Getting Curry now makes Harris expendable, so we trade him when his value was highest for another top 10 pick and an expiring contract. Let's say we come out of that with T-Will. We still make the Carter trade, so now we have Lee once more.
2009 starting line up:
Curry
Lee
T-Will
Yi
Brook
That team is awful, so we're still in the lottery. Let's say we fall to the 7th spot. We take a sf or Monroe.
Curry/T-Will
Lee
2010 draft pick
2010 draft pick
Lopez
Does that team get Lebron?

Re: Dont Panic Just Yet
I don't know dude, that's a lot to digest...
Why is everyone so sure Lebron is gone though?
Did he really want to play with Boozer who left him high and dry years ago?
Is he really interested in playing with Amar'e and his balky knees?
Does anyone really believe any team is going to help create cap space in Miami for a Big 3?
Does he really want to remain in Cleveland with that crappy cast and few trade assets to improve, especially if they retain Delonte and his MILFing ways?
Does he really want to play for a 12 win team in the former car theft capitol of the US?
All these teams have serious flaws and downfalls to go with the highs.
And no one has the trade assets we do to go after Chris Paul.
We're still in this.
Byilieve.

I hear they're good friends, actually.

Maybe.

Yes, they do, but I was just doing a what if excercize, mostly because I like Curry.

At least no one with cap space.
