I had an idea centered around Proko having endless cash.
Let's say we make a trade for CP3 but had to bring back Okafor. I'm not sure of the exact numbers but let's say that completely caps us out this year, and for the years to come because of their combined salaries.
Is it possible to buy out Okafor so that his remaining ~52 mil over the next 4 years gets accelerated completely into 2010-2011? Obviously he wouldn't want much less than what he's owed, so proko just says, "take this $52mill now and leave." Would that make the 2010-2011 cap number 52 mil instead of the 11.5 he's owed, thereby clearing the future cap space for a Carmelo or whoever's available?

No. Buyouts are distributed over all remaining years of the contract.

Yeah, we would lose cap space just to pay an empty roster spot, that's why buy outs are usually the last year, or sometimes with two years left.
