No thanks on Luis.
While he'd be an excellent fit on a win now team, at 30-year-old I just don't think this is the right place for him.

I would take him.
Favors is going to be great. But, he needs mentors and can't be pressured to produce like an All-Star right away. I say we sign Scola for a 3 year deal around $25 million. Front load it as the Rockets don't have that much money ($12 the first year), 7 the second, 6 the 3rd. Maybe even make it a 4 year deal if need be. But, sign him. He's a great hustle player and can really play. By the 3rd year he can either be a great bench player or we can deal him. But, I think he can definitely help us for 2 seasons.

Id be good with Scola and to a lesser extent Haslem. Don't think Houston is letting Scola out of their grip though. Haslem for 2 years 14 mil would be ideal but that's probably a little low.

Haslem isn't leaving Miami even f we do offer him more money. He isn't leaving that team for anything in the world.. Aside from the fact that he'd be playing with LeDwyane Bosh... he absolutely loves the team and the city etc.. hell, the heat even through a ''Don't leave us Udonis Haslem'' party after they were eliminated from the playoffs, a gesture that made Haslem cry. He isn't leaving so it'd be best if people stop mentioning his name as a possibility.

Re: should/will we get Luis Scola?
At this point of time, the best case scenerio is a good and solid trade. A trade for a young player with a lot more mileage to burn. I think its not wise to sign a player right now thats going to demand more money from us due to the fact that seems every player right now are gettng overpaid, unless that player is stupid enough to just settle for less money or a lot less years. But with the trade, the question is, are we willing to mortgage our future for a solid but older player when we know we are still not gonna make it to the end? Thats why i kinda like TT because he's still young. I think the management are being careful and thats a good thing. They are not just signing 2nd tier players just for the sake of being competitive.
This is going to be another disappointing season for us and we have to face it, but at least we on a right track and just one big offseason, even if we dont hit the blackjack and just received a 16 we'll call it safe.

Would love to get Scola here for four years and sign his buddy Oberto to back up the center position but I don't see us overpaying for him to pry him away from Houston.
I don't even think Scola would come here either since the only real positive is the money.

Wouldn't he have to take the league minimum to stay?

+1
But anyway, he wouldn't want to leave his situation in Houston for us, and as an RFA, the Rockets would probably match anything under $12mil/year for Scola.

Exactly, I dont understand why the rumors started (i guess old rumors)...this guy should retire with the Heat and I cant imagine his intention are anything different now with the big 3...

The Cavaliers have not reached out to Scola, though sources close to the situation tell HOOPSWORLD the New Jersey Nets are preparing a "big money" offer sheet for Scola. That doesn't mean the Rockets will let him walk . . .GM Daryl Morey has been very clear in saying they will match any offer for Scola. They're likely waiting for a team to set his value so they can match it and move on, just as they did with Carl Landry two summers ago.

Re: should/will we get Luis Scola?
Nets have a lot of cap space and have to realize that as a "bad" team, they won't get any big FA in the market. This summer you have the chance to bring 2 big FA to add to Brooke Lopez, and the #3 pick in the draft and nobody came. So lets face it.
Getting young players is sometimes good, sometimes really bad.
Why? Because you need kids to grow up and a "vet" or solid player to carry them. You can't give all the responsability of carrying a team to the playoffs to a couple of kids with no good back up. And you need to make your team better NOW. If not, Brooke Lopez, your real future guy is going to leave you.
So, paying big money to some solid players that can help to develop this young talent is the best thing Nets can do.
Scola won't accept a 3 years deal (at least 4-5) and make a big offer, if not, the rockets will pair it.

Re: should/will we get Luis Scola?
As long as we keep ourselves in position to have 10 mil is pure cap space and enough guys expiring to get to a max offer Im fine with any veteran moves we take. As others said, young players need veterans leadership and they need to taste winning to get better. Unless you have a superstar like the Thunder you can't just throw 8 25 year olds out there and not expect to lose a few of them in the woods.
Hopefully Brook becomes our superstar this season - supporting him with a veteran PF who's been through the battles in the west can only help that.

Re: should/will we get Luis Scola?
I've seen Scola play numerous times, both in the NBA and in Europe. He would be a very good fit for the Nets and a very good mentor for both of the Nets's young talented big men.
I'm a Celtics fan and the worst thing I think the C's did in the past decade was giving young players playing time by default. When younger players have to earn their minutes - from Veterans infront of them, they get better.
Scola would teach the young guys to behave in a professional manner. He would also blossom in the role of one of the main offensive threats (like he played for TAU in Spain). His footwork on the post is sublime and he works harder then most guys.
Devin Harris, Luis Scola and Brook Lopez make a very interesting trio.
My only concern would be that the Nets team would be to good to get good draft picks and to bad not to progress far in the playoffs.
But IMHO opinion: Scola is not worse then Amaré.

Re: should/will we get Luis Scola?
I think the Rockets will match anything up to 10 million a year. Maybe 11 million..... anything above that would be nonsensical.
Scola is good but thats allstar type money.

Re: should/will we get Luis Scola?
Scola's not a bad player but if he actually played for the Nets then his contract would be disastrous. Houston said they'll match any offer... which obviously means any offer within reason. If we manage to offer Scola something that they refused to match then I don't even want to think about how much the average salary for him is.
There are cheaper options. The Craig Smith suggestion from the other thread is a great idea.

yeh I'm not willing to offer that amount to Scola...I definitely agree whatever we offer, Houston is matching anyway...
dont get me started about overpaying Scola...
What do you think is a fair offer? If we just wanted to test the waters...
