WT: Scola Agrees To $47M Contract With Rockets

Post#1 » by SOUP » Fri Jul 16, 2010 1:44 am

The Rockets have agreed to terms with Luis Scola on a five-year, $47 million contract.

Scola was a restricted free agent this summer and Houston was adamant that they would match any offer he received.

And BOOM we´re in the clear.

9.4M a year not bad....But 5 years... yuck.

That's actually half a steal, especially for Houston, but I think they would have been better off signing him for something like 3 for 30 or 4 for 40.

Well, we're going forward as planned.

I actually hope we sign Craig Smith, but only to a 1 year guarantee...

Call me crazy but I think Brad Miller and Tracy McGrady both have something left in the tank. If we can sign one or both of them to two year deals with an opt out after 1 year team option then I think we should sign them. We need a 2 and a 4. We can play Miller at the 4 here. I wouldn't pay more than 5-6 million a year though.

2 year 12 million deal... which really is a 1 year deal with a play option for year 2. I don't know if they will take it. But, it will be decent money and there aren't many teams with money left looking for a PF nor are there many teams looking for TMAC.

I'd be down for Miller on a one year deal, but I think he signs with a contender or at least a legitimate playoff team.

That's a good deal for the Rockets because they couldn't afford to lose him, but I didn't want him on the Nets that bad.

Blah. Overpaid like crazy just like everyone else this summer. Darkos deal > this.

Scola is basically a 18/9 guy who relies more on craft and smarts than athleticism meaning he should age nicely. Darko is not even as good as Chris Webber now.. if you catch my reference.

I said Brad in another thread. Ideal guy for a one year deal if he can be had. Add a team option year.

Having ONE season of SIXTEEN and nine with your all-star post dominating big man out does not make you a 18/9 guy. Scola is a 13/9 4th option thats going to be making 12+M when he is 35 years old. Yuk. :noway:

Last year is only partially guaranteed. Rest he will be making around 9. Look at Scola's stats post Landry trade. Guys stats explode. Before that he basically split time with Landry. With Yao back I'd imagine he will be at the 16/8 range. Maybe a little overspending but he is the heart of the team and has been playing for pennies before this. Certinally not a Darko level contract.

Nah, that was a great deal for Scola, at least for Houston.

They will be stuck with him due to age on the back end...but if Yao comes back...they are competing for NOW. Needed to keep their players and worry less about them as asset. Besides...thanks to the Nix they will be able to make plenty of other moves anyway.

Yup, he'd be riding our bench for the last 3 1/2 years of that contract. I don't want a 31+year old back up PF forward in 2011-2012 and on.
