Is Derrick Favors "father" a con or is he genuinely concerned?

I saw that article, and in my heart I think his intentions are good. Two things came to mind though, as I was reading:

1) I don't like the fact that the article plugged Mr. Parker's band, twice. Who cares about Nastee Waters, or his Youtube links? It had no strong relevance to the story whatsoever. IF Derrick's dad had some quid-pro-quo arrangement with the author, where he gave them this story on the condition that they give him free advertisement, my opinion of him and his motives are tarnished somewhat. (My opinion of news writers is already tarnished, so that remains unchanged).

2) Like many former girl-on-the-side type single parents, Derrick's mom is bitter. B-I-T-T-E-R. I'm not condemning or justifying it, just noting it; and I hope Derrick does as well. It seems she still needs time to resolve some issues with this, and IMO it's not worth hurting the parent that WAS there for you, just to try to spark a relationship with the one that WASN'T. She doesn't need to be an obstacle to their reunion; I'm just saying she's earned the right to take time to reconcile conflicting emotions, and our young PF should respect those.

Straight up con. The dude has opportunist written all over him. We aren't in the stone age, if you truly want to find someone it isn't really that difficult, especially if its your SON. Now he magically appears after his son is in the NBA? NOW you want to be a father?
