right now easily bottom 5.

Huge opportunity to advance this year. First of all 99% of the guys in the NBA have never heard of the prudential center, nor have they played there. In 6 months time almost all of the NBA will have played there and seen that the Nets are no longer playing to 3,000 people an a cesspool and in fact their arena is phenomenal.

Additionally im sure that 85% of the players in the NBA couldn't even tell you about the moves the Nets have made this offseason. While they're modest the Nets should win 30-35 games and Lopez should make the all star team - if those 2 things happen there's going to be a lot more positive press around the team which will also help vault them over a few other franchises. Every day the team gets closer to Brooklyn it gains some added cache.

Well, for starters it's hard to say. I haven't been to many NBA cities. Only East Rutherford, NYC, Orlando, Charlotte, Toronto, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. Out of those, East Rutherford is definitely at the bottom so that's saying a lot. IMO, any place is better than East Rutherford. However, even though the area is not so great, putting the Nets in Newark automatically boosts them up a bit considering that the area where the stadium is improving dramatically and it's a stonethrow from NYC. So if we're talking strictly about geographical location, I'd say this moves NJ to the teens.

If you want to incorporate the team, vision/outlook, Prokhorov, and the prospect of playing in Brooklyn, I believe that NJ sits just below every contending team in the NBA. The reason why I say this is due to the many discussions that we've had regarding possible trades for stars and what not. Just to know that the Big 3 each gave us an interview says something about the future of the Nets regardless of whether they planned it out or not. You would never think that players as good as Wade and LBJ would visit a 12 win as a possible place to play for the prime years of their career, but they glanced at the opportunity. Obviously, I believe in the rule of being a contender or rebuilder, not an average or 1st/2nd round team (unless the team is on the rise of course) so that's why I would put the Nets at such a high position. We have the chance to be very good very quickly and BK is right around the corner.

I would say there's 7 teams that rank below us right now.

When we move to Brooklyn we will be in the top 10 guaranteed. A lot of the FAs the year we move will want to be a part of the history in Brooklyn and want to be the ones that carry the Brooklyn Nets to success, so IMO we will be a really attractive team when we move.

Yeah, I really think that we're finally on the move up from here on out. Brooklyn > Newark >>> East Rutherford.

I don't know about you guys but I absolutely hated driving to that stadium. It's not like it's football where you can get all of your buddies to go with you and tailgate on a Sunday. East Rutherford was just a dead spot for a basketball team. Even if we made the playoffs this year, we'd have so many fans attend the games due to it's proximity to the city and that the stadium is finally right next to the train station. The Nets were limited so much by the fact that you HAD to drive to the stadium to get there. They just added NJTransit to bus transportation to East Rutherford a few years which was mostly driven by the Giants and their playoff success. Now that the Nets are in Newark, I won't have to drive which makes things so much easier for me. I'm definitely planning on going to some games this season.

Its a funny thing.

NY is regarded as one of if not the premier city for pro atheltes to want to play, primarily for off court opportunites...yet more than half the athletes playing in the NY Metro area have a residence IN NEW JERSEY.

So...the way the question was asked...where do the Nets while IN NJ rank? Right near the bottom. But the area itself...pretty damn high for places you want to live. Brooklyn should elevate up the list pretty high.

Toronto...seems to rank low because guys do not want to move out of the country...but the reality of it Toronot is...

It is the 4th largest media city in North America after NY, LA, and Chicago.

No local taxes.

THe cost of living is MUCH lower by far.

And it is an absolutely beautiful city.

Toronto SHOULD be way up the list but it isnt.

Found this that sort of speaks to it...and why Canada should be higher on the list of choice destinations to go if you are a US citizen and NBA player....

"One major myth about the United States vs. Canada is that our taxes in the United States are lower. This is not true. Canadian federal income tax is siginificantly lower than the US', but your provicial taxes are high, but still not high enough to have a higher overall tax burden. The United States also has other higher consumption taxes like sales taxes, luxury taxes, etc.

If you are an American citizen you won't however owe income taxes in the U.S. unless you work in Alberta. Taxes in Canada combined with provincial taxes exceed the federal tax rate, therefore you won't have to pay the U.S."

One other thing to note...the overall cost of living in Toronto compared to the OTHER major media cities in North America is VASTLY less per the value of the dollar. Its one of the more expensive Canadian cities...but it doesnt come close in terms of NY, Chicago or LA. I am talking to cost of goods and services, of real estate, etc. That is before dealing with the tax advatages.

Hmm... I always thought that they had to pay both Canadian and US taxes unless you were a Canadian citizen... interesting...

I agree. I've been to Toronto twice this summer and three times within the last few years. The city is gorgeous. I think if the team didn't get such a bad rap and there wasn't a stigma against it being a non-US city, Toronto would get a lot of attention.

Jersey probably ranks at the very bottom IMO. Lack of fan support, playing in Jersey and the worst record in the league all being factors.

I've lived in Dallas for the past few years. Great city, just too damn hot. Originally from NY.

Jersey probably ranks pretty low because it comes 2nd to playing for New York (Until we move to Brooklyn). After our 12 win flirt with history nobody really wants to come to our team unless they're gonna get overpaid or have a pivotal role. I do think we're above the Clippers and Timberwolves though.
