Back in the Day...

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Wed Aug 4, 2010 3:28 am

This video was done by a mod/poster on another site. It was posted a couple weeks ago there, but I thought it was just epic and deserved some love on here...
Brings back some memories boy!

Props to GMJ.

Abso;utely awesome. We were never a big away from a title. Just a luscious Harris corner three ball.

Can someone please show this to Devin, T-will, Brooke and Sexual.

How much was K-mart the heart and sole of this team??

A lot memories come back...Blood, Sweat and Tears as I used to say; we always left it all out on the court...Those teams fought to the end, no matter what the score was...Back then, in the moment its was bitter sweet falling short because those Nets teams made you feel you we could pull it off and I never doubted we couldn't win it all...

It was the belief the Nets gave you and how you believed in the Nets, the domination that so many fans forget, the determination that pushed us over the top and the chemistry we witnessed with the Jason Kidd Era which always gave us a chance...

No player or coach goes unrecognized...Those Nets years definde the word TEAM...

Big thanks to GMJ...it took all of 2 seconds to have everything come back, sending chills up my spine...It makes you realize how much you cared and how hard you rooted for the Nets to win every game...

I'm ripping video that to my hard drive.

As a NJ native, this video was bitter sweet too. I remember being so proud of the Nets and when I heard that Ratner was coming in to decimate the Nets and he was taking our team to Brooklyn, I was pissed. I'll never forget the first-round Game 5 2002 playoff game, when we beat Reggie Miller and the Pacers to advance to the second round. Afterwards as we all were going through the tunnel to the parking lot, someone started a "Reggie sucks!" chant and before you know it, the entire tunnel was in a full chorus. That's what I remember. The ticket to that game is one of the few things that I never consider throwing away. That was my team during our era. I don't know if NJ will ever have their own NBA team again but I will never forget that team...MY team.

I was at that game too and I still have the ticket as well. i remember the guys behind me started crying when Reggie hit the three for the first overtime. i was on the second level and the floor was moving from all the fans cheering. being that reggie miller has always been one of my favorite players it was the single greatest basketball game i have ever been to.

YEAH! I remember the stadium moving too haha. I got great seats on the lower section and when the stadium started to shake my Dad looked at me suggesting that we better stomp too. Those two shots by Reggie at the end-of-regulation and at the end of the first OT just made the game that much more epic considering that we won in the end. Ahh...the memories.

Ratner gets an unfair rap. He gets blamed for Kmart leaving which people never got over. But, we found out later...that wasnt his doing. It was the result of the investors at the time...anf the only way to get the sale done. But, int he end...didnt matter. As much of a fan fav as Kmart was...his contract was AWFUL and he NEVER lived up to it....not by a mile. Had the team never sold, and we re-signed Kmart...we would have been WORSE in the next 3 years than we were.

KMart for three first rounders was HOW we got Vince Carter. And that was one of the greatest trades EVER made by this team. And that deal was done during the Ratner era. From there, he gave RJ the huge extension rather than letting him walk...and he even gave Vince an extension even though the team was clearly on the decline. He allowed Rod to run the team way over the cap...right under the LTT despite being a small market franchise with declining revenues as he was hemoraging cash as he worked on Brooklyn.

Which brings us to the next thing. While I am looking forward to seeing what a big pockets owner like Proky can do....if it wasnt for Ratner...Brooklyn never happens. I dont think anyone could have kept attendance alive in the Meadowlands once Brooklyn was announced. NJ was already failing to support the team properly even when we were WINNING.

So Ratner didnt do anything wrong. He got blamed for one of our most popular players leaving and that set off a chain of emotions that were unfair to what really happened.

I appreciate what the guy did for us and now I am ready for the next guy.

That brought a tear to my eye, those years were the main reason I got into basketball. (Yeah, you can call it bandwagoning, but I live in the UK and I still support the Nets!)

Yeah, I was just saying that's how I felt at the time. All I heard was how Ratner wanted to dismantle the team. However, I was pissed that KMart only wanted a max contract and I kept saying that he's not worth it. I thought "what team in their right mind would give even a healthy KMart a max contract?" And as we always know, there's always (at least) one that does the dumb move. But yeah, I totally agree though. However, when you're pissed as a fan, its' kinda like breaking up with your girlfriend, you're not thinking straight and you try to blame anyone/anything. At that time, everyone pointed the fingers at Ratner so like in any breakup, you condemn who you perceive to be the cause of the pain.

Just add "-ness" to the end of practically anything and because of the 'ness", the new created word is defined as "the state of (the root word)". So "epicness" is the state of being epic lol.

Nice Video
Hopefully these nets can bring back the old nets style of play and excitement and fans
People say we dont got any fans thats a bunch of B.S. i was watching the nets vs bobcats gm the games back in april that i recorded and before the 3rd quarter began the nets annoucers were talking about this favorite moment and they showed a moment when the nets played against pacers in the playoffs in 01 i believe and all i got to say is that place was packed and the arena was rocking, that shows we do got fans its just we dont have the talent for people to waste money on

Return to Brooklyn Nets
