Dampier
Charlotte is looking to deal Damp.. I'm not sure if we're allowed to deal Petro yet but I think we should consider Hump and Petro for Damp. It would be an upgrade at backup center, would clear a logjam at backup PF to give Favors the full backup role, and of course it would be a large expiring contract.

Re: Dampier
We don't need to package any more players/possible future trade assets for Dampier. He's the exact opposite of the kind of player that we want. Dampier has heavier feet than Okafor. He's way too slow for our uptempo and athletic team. We already have Murphy to slow us down at the 4 (but Murphy is a good player though), we don't need another big man to slow us. Also, you shouldn't worry about any logjam for Favors. While Murphy is the better PF, Favor is the Nets more prized possession and he's the main focus as far as development is concerned. Favors will get his minutes no matter what.

Where did I mention future assets? Humph and Petro are future assets?

If anything we're gaining an asset with the huge expiring contract.
I'd rather have a vet off the bench than Humph who is a black hole and thinks the offense runs through him for some reason. He will only hinder development mark my words.

Well, first of all. I said future trade assets meaning trade chips during the season or later on.
Humphries only has one more year anyway so technically he's expiring. You're saying that Hump is a black hole but I see him often as the only guy who is trying. For a 12 win team last year, I'd prefer someone who actually tries even it's a little too hard sometimes. Kiki was coaching back then and it was like madhouse since he had no coaching experience. Avery knows how to coach and wouldn't let Hump become the blackhole that you are referring to.
You only addressed the first sentence of my response and not the rest of the paragraph. Helps the team in no way at all. His playing ability is the antithesis of what we're trying to do as a team. Almost all of our guys can run including our big man. We don't need Damp slowing everyone down even it's with the second string. We are an athletic, uptempo team and Damp is not athletic and doesn't know the word uptempo. Maybe if we ran more halfcourt sets and had slower players who operated out of those sets he'd be a better fit.
Contract wise, we already have a big expiring contract in Murphy who is actually talented. Just because you have an expiring deal doesn't mean that anyone will take you in a trade. With Troy, we can still package other young guys that other teams will want. I still don't see the why would we want Dampier since he doesn't do anything for us a player and we already have a big expiring contract anyway.

Forget all the reasons why he's not a good fit, why in the world would CHAR want Hump and Petro. They will either try and lure a better player they can use or just let him expire rather than add pointless salary.

All of which begs the question -- why would Charlotte ever consider doing that trade? Answer, they wouldn't. Unless they really value Petro, which they don't.

Larry Brown appreciates hustle players. Of course, so does Avery Johnson but we need to make another run at free agency next off season.

I for one don't want damp on our team expiring or no expiring. With only 38.5 mill on the books for next season. (which includes team options for brooke and T-will. How exactly are not in the run for free agency next year already?

I have no interest in this guy...I'll take youth over Damp on our team any day, especially if they can bring some high energy ball in small minutes...did you take a look at Dam's FG%, these guys can do anything he can in small mintues and then some...
not happening even if we could...

Re: Dampier
Although Dampier would be a nice addition to our squad, we should stay put with our assets in case we're really working on getting Melo.

Re: Dampier
If NJN wants Dampier they should wait until he is waived by Charlotte or the team he is traded to. Dampier's value is in his instantly expiring contract, not as an overpriced player. Wait until he is waived and then sign him for the vet minimum. Then he costs you no assets at all.

Nets are waiting to see what happens with Melo. Turns out we will have 20 mill (according to some reports) Next year to sign him as a free agent. This is why you don't make knee jerk trades or jump at shadows
