Bring Back Carter Next Year?

Post#1 » by iDunk » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:07 pm

Would you guys be fine by bringing back Carter next year if Melo doesn't pan out?

We would give him an MLE type of contract, 08/09 he showed that he was helping our young players grow not preventing them.

It makes no sense to waste capspace on a heavily declining 34 year old Vince Carter. Not only would it be a waste but it would take away PT from our young wings who are on great contracts.

Answer: No.

Don't see the point... I'd hate for the Nets to become like the Pistons and hang onto past-their-prime players just for nostalgia's sake.

Only makes sense if we are real contender and he signs for maybe $3 mill and plays a Ginobili Lite type of role off the bench.

This. This would be the only scenario in which I would welcome Carter back to the Nets.

If we're still rebuilding, he'd only lift us into mediocrity. If we can sign or trade for a legit superstar (or two... ), then I could see a reunion tour working out nicely for both he and us.

If you guys get Melo, would management be opposed to giving him the #15? Or was Vince just another dime a dozen players for the Nets?

That's a good question. Vince's stay here was short, but he made the playoffs 3 out of 5 seasons and set a lot of records. Not sure if they would retire his number, we haven't had many players worthy of that distinction. I'm sure they wouldn't retire his number any time soon though, but still an interesting question.

After all that, I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves though.

Eh, Vince left his mark on the Nets franchise he actually has a handful of franchise records but he wasn't that significant that the Nets would retire his number or prevent someone from wearing his old number.

i think They wouldnt give Melo #15 sure Vince wasnt a Legend here but he left his mark and the should be enough respect for the Nets to not just give away his number so soon.

To add to my question, if the Nets move to Brooklyn, and change names as Mikhail has mentioned before. Would the Brooklyn "Whatever" honor these guys like JKidd, RJ, Vince, etc? Like I don't think the OKC Thunder will retire Ray Allen's number. Obviously these team moves are under different circumstances, but I feel they're a bit similar.

LoL...no way they say no. Carmelo is your new prized possession, and if he asks for any number that is not on the rafters (or will be) or #5, you give him that number.

Stay away from Vince. He is a last piece to a championship player now. Not a build around player anymore. Just some advise from a Knick fan.

Vince is done. He was once an excellent player though and we should definitely retire is number.

Do you realized who elses number we've retired?

Bill Melchiono?

John Williamson?

Wendell Ladner????????????
