can't let the Knicks get melo

at this point I don't understand why they are reluctant to send favors and harris to get melo.
First: Farmar showed us last night how he can play. His play kept harris on the bench the whole 4th quarter. That might have been resting harris but lopez played in the fourth. Farmar has shown us that he can be our starting point if harris was to be traded. All we would need is to sign another point guard to back him up. That's not too hard.
Second: Favors has shown us nothing so far in preseason. Most superstar players show some type of their potential already. Not saying that all of the superstar players played like superstars in the first few games of their first preseason but they showed at least flashes of their potential. He has not shown us anything. Last night was the first time he had a decent game. He looks slow and tired all the time. Maybe he isn't in shape. But he would have shown us something. My projection for him would be at his top potential - Josh smith, worst case he is a major bust and doesn't even get off the bench the rest of his career. Melo is a proven superstar player and that's a fact.
Third and last point. If they knicks get melo for the crap they are giving up the nets are screwed. Forget trying to take the knicks thunder and fans. Melo + amare= fans. the nets will be left in the dust again. I don't even care if the knicks win a championship with that team they will still have the draw of those two players and the nets will have nothing again. At this point I don't care if the nets get melo as long as the knicks don't.

Despite Favors's play this preseason, I'd still take him, Harris and a couple of 1st rounders over Gallo/AR/Curry/1st

So you conclude that Farmar is good enough to run the team based mostly on 1 half of basketball yet you ignore that Favors played really good in that same game?
If this preseason has showed something its that Farmar is nowhere near starting caliber PG. Favors has not showed anything either for the Nets to becoming hesitant to trade him, so i dont buy that report what so ever. "Nothing is imminent" means noting is going to happen. These reports are even more bs then the ones before.
I agree that we cant let Knicks get Melo though, but i dont think they are any closer then they were a month ago. What has changed? They are willing to trade Gallo now? Really? WTF were they offering before they came to that decision? This isn't news, Gallo or Randolph were always going to the centerpiece of the trade, just like its no news that Favors is for the Nets, not Twitt, not James.

Lol right, his play kept Harris on the bench...
Come on dog, it's preseason, Farmar is new to the team and Harris is fragile and injury prone. Sure Farmar played well and Harris will have more accountability in general this season, so he has to watch his back, but it's not like Farmar is in competition for the starting spot or Harris' spot in the 4th quarter, he's just not that good...

yeah. have you people been watching harris this preseason. He is playing like the crap he did last season. So stop. it's not just this preseason its all of last season. He is not a point guard. He had one good season with the nets. One that's it. he has been here almost 4 years.
please. at this point I'll take farmar over harris. Can't wait till the season starts and you guys start bashing harris for his play again.

He's been here 2 years and a half. How is that almost 4?
And Harris is better than Farmar, c'mon man..

Like crap? If like crap means shooting 47% from the field I'll take it... People need to realize that Devin Harris at his best isn't getting you 20+ ppg he's getting you around 16 ppg efficiently while picking and choosing his spots to takeover.
I'm really looking forward to a Devin Harris who is going to play more like he did in Dallas.

Even if you don't like Devin that doesn't change the fact Farmar is a mediocre player and a terrible point guard. The people up in arms about Farmar right now are going to be eating their words and extremely disappointed if/when Devin gets hurt and Jordan winds up the starter for a bunch of games.

Farmar is at best a Derek Fisher - e.g. not a starting PG, a role player. It remains to be seen if he can be as clutch and effective as Fisher but in terms of skills they have a lot of similarities.
The newest offer that's apparently on the table is a straight deal with Den of Hump/Murphy/Favors, and 2 picks. IMO that is about right. Favors is the only piece that it would hurt to lose but for a signed Carmelo I would do it. The only other downside is losing a lot of cap room for this next offseason but considering there aren't really any max worthy players available I would take the chance that over 2 years we'd be able to peel off Devin, Outlaw, and anyone else necessary to have room available for Paul (or whoever) in 2012.
The way Outlaw has played at SF, shifting him to PF would be fine with me. At PF he is undersized at SF he is unathletic. Either way right now he is looking like a weakness we're just going to have to deal with. Hopefully he can play well enough to have a neutral trade value.
Harris/Morrow/Melo/Outlaw/Lopez - Twill/Farmar/Petro/James/Smith
In the East that's a pretty decent lineup and we'd have some flexibility to continue to make some moves.

I think giving up THAT much cap AND TWO picks along with Favors is too much.
Swap the GS pick for Twitt and throw Afflalo in the deal, maybe take out Humph.

^^ Yeah I'd do that deal in a heart beat ^^
It leave us really thin up front but all we need to do is find a way to package what's left of our assets to find a banger for the PF spot. A Haslem/Varajeo type guy.
I mean with Outlaw/James/Smith/Petro we should be able to hold down the PF spot until the deadline when for sure some more guys become available.
I wonder if DEN tries to hold off until Dec 15 if we could could snag Nene from them so they could go into full rebuilding mode. If we add T-Will, Ross, and a small contract like Uzoh the salaries would match.
Harris/Morrow/Melo/Nene/Lopez
that would be a sick lineup but I guess they could do better by trading Nene on his own then getting T-Will and two scrubs for him. Oh well wishful thinking so lets just try to get Melo here first before we start worrying about a PF since he's probably a long shot anyway.
Either way it looks like we have a high draft pick or Melo to look forward to so at least we have something to look forward to.

Yeah, people worried about mediocrity and a late lotto pick can relax, this team won be that good unless another move is made.
Trading Lee was such a stupid thing on so many levels. Not only that we could have saved a player and traded pure cap rather then Murphy (keeping Lee). And then with Melo went back to discussing trade 1 of the 3 SGs (you know who i'd want off the team) for a PF like Gibson, Thompson or Landry.
I also remember proposing something about trading Twitt for Varejao, of course that was met with ridicule but i'd rather overpay him then Outlaw. Man that Outlaw signing was SOOOOOOOO bad!!!
Thorn, Avery and King **** up this summer BIG time.

Knicks getting Melo would be a real shame...cause then they just might be able to form a big 3 of their own come 2012...But better them than us if the price is 2 draft picks, Favors, Murphy and Hump. That's just simply ridiculous for a Guy that wants out of a franchise. I'll gladly hang on to our probable high lotto pick if that's the case.

I've said this before. I would hate to overpay and 2 picks IS overpaying, but its a disaster for the Nets is Melo goes to NYKs so if there is absolutely no way out of it, its a price we have to pay.
With that said i see no reason how it would be the price to pay. All NY has to offer is Gallo OR Chandler in place of Favors, Curry in place of Murphy, and ONE unknown pick (giving up Douglas or Chandler wont get them a top lotto pick) vs TWO Nets pick, one of which will be a high one. I see no reason to even offer that 2nd pick.

Is the Golden state pick protected at all in 2011?
