I was just wondering what you guys think will happen next offseason or at the trade deadline. This could be what you want to happen or what you think will happen.
I personally think Melo will ultimately sign with the Knicks or be dealt there at the trade deadline. I think he just really wants to go there even if we have the pieces to land him. If he truly wanted to be here I think he would be here already so that makes me think it just not going to happen ever. Funny thing is I'm really not all that disappointed.
So where do we go from there then, we have a ton of cap space I think it somewhere around 22-24 mil (I could be wrong on that). Ultimately this is our last chance to make a splash in free agency with Brook due to make a big pay day with his stellar play. So who do we target with the only max guy out there off the table. I think we are set at C and PF for the future and Harris seems like he wants to keep his job. I guess we could use an upgrade at SG and SF. I think we will look BPA in the draft with serviceable players at every position.
I see us having around 30 wins so that puts us somewhere around 6-10 in the draft. I can't see anyone there cracking our rotation but they will be quality depth or a trade asset.
As for free agents there aren't many great ones. The one guy that catches my eye is Wilson Chandler. I think he's the guy we should target. With him most likely out for the Knicks with Melo going in they won't need him and he would come reasonably cheep say 8-10 per. No need to spend it all since maybe we could pull off that CP3 blockbuster next year (or anyone else for that matter).
Harris/T-Will/2 firsts and cap space for CP3. Of coarse they'll want Favors though.
CP3
Morrow
Chandler
Favors
Lopez
Is that a contending team? Either way Chandler is 23 and has a very well rounded game and would fit in nicely with our young team. Do you agree with Chandler as a target as long as Melo is truly off the table?

I wouldn't give up on Melo. The Knicks aren't good. There team is bad now and they don't look like they will get that much better with age. They don't have good draft picks for a while, even though they suck. And if Melo cares about winning at all he would realize that the Knicks are incapable of putting together a winning team on their own (they need someone like lebron or melo to decide that they will be better). I haven't seen them make one good move in the past few years.
The Nets on the other hand will have around the same record as the Knicks, but they are the youngest team in the league with a lot of potential. They have a good coach. Then after this year they will be in bk in only a year and maybe one more move away from competing for the championship. If Melo signs with the Knicks over the Nets its for personal reasons outside of basketball.
If it gets to the offseason we can offer the same amount of money to Melo, but a better future and supporting cast. The difference between the Knicks and us is that without Melo our future still looks bright while theres looks bleak.
Chandler is ok, but we have outlaw already. And I'm not sure he is better than outlaw. The new CBA will dictate a lot this offseason and Chris Paul looks like he will be happy in NO cause they are going to win a lot this year. DOn't forget we have two real good draft picks coming up this year as long as GS doesn't suck too bad. Pray every night that we get lucky and draft Harrison Barnes this year.
Don't worry about the offseason too much, instead watch as favors tears it up and brook gets like 25 a game. This team is headed in the right direction.

Chandler is 110% better then Outlaw thats for sure.
I haven't given up on Melo yet it just seems unlikely and I really think King could give up Favors for him at the deadline. I have a bad feeling about this.
Yeah we could use a little luck and get Barnes, but I don't think we have GS pick this year I think it's next year top 7 protected.

Re: Your Crystal Ball
I think we can consider Josh Smith as a consolation prize in case Melo really doesn't want to come here. He's still young at 24, uber-athletic and a defensive juggernaut.
With the Horford signing, the Hawks will be hard-pressed in keeping him. I'm not sure if he will hinder Favors growth but I do think they can co-exist. He can still play the 3 very well.
Having a front court of Smith, Favors and Lopez definitely has a lot of potential. We just need to have consistent shooters in the back court...
...But then again, this is a league of Superstars, we definitely need one to be significant again

Hell NO to Mel o. Get used to it will be slogan every time. Unless we move outlaw and murphy for him and maybe a pick. Now I know Sexual wasn't mentioned in this thread. But we all know that is what denver will ask for. So

Are we really giving him the nickname "sexual"? Anyway, why are you so adamant about staying away from Melo? Kid is still in his prime and has proven to be an offensive juggernaut which the Nets are sorely lacking outside of Lopez. With Avery at the helm you know practice is gonna be all about defense. The only way the Nets would be on the short side of the deal is if Favors turns out to be the next David Robinson, which even then wouldnt be that bad of a deal. Players like Melo dont come along very often you cant let someone of his caliber slip away if you have the chance to get him.

Harris and Humph for Smith (upgrade at pg and financial relief), Favors and Murph and picks for Melo
Farmar
Twill
Melo
Smith
Lopez
Atlanta will definitely ask for more, but hey this could be the blueprint.

Re: Your Crystal Ball
I think we need to absorb a bad contact to get Melo, rather than move Favors. Denver doesn't really like him (!), and keeping him would HAVE to improve our appeal to Anthony. The Nuggets like Gerald Wallace, Anderson Varejao and Andre Iguodala. We can take on Diaw, Jamison or Brand. Heck, those guys could produce for us.
Btw, Josh Smith was, is and always will be a PF.
