What is wrong with the offense?

Post#1 » by Lamak » Wed Dec 1, 2010 5:24 am

-We have the 2nd worst offense in the league point wise.

-We have arguably the best young offensive center in the game, an accurate 3 point shooter, a borderline all star point guard, and many other role players who can put up points.

Why isn't this offense clicking?

Devin Harris is the only small on the team who can consistently attack the basket.

Outlaw pulls up for the jumper and doesn't look to dunk anymore, Morrow has tried attacking the basket but doesn't have the footspeed to get all the way there so he always ends up taking a mid-range jumper, Farmar has the speed but not the intelligence and too often gets caught overhandling, Damion James... The verdict is still out on him but his handle doesn't look tight at all, etc.

It also doesn't help that there don't seem to be any secondary sets when the initial play breaks down...

I keep throwing his name out there but this team need should go after Corey Brewer. It needs a player on the wing who will relentlessly attack the rim. None of this pull-up **** (shout out to T-Will!), just straight drives into the heart of the opposing team's defense...

The team's just not very good. It's that simple.

We are not interested in a troll's opinion...stay off the Nets board, you've been warned before...

Yea we need wing players that can slash their way to the rim and dunk the ball or get to the line.TWILL fits that mold but he's playing to much like a pg this year.

Eh I honestly don't think T-Will fits the mold... For someone with his athleticism he doesn't attack the rim hard enough and as much as I'd like to say otherwise I honestly don't feel like that can be coached out of him.

He loves his floaters like VC loves Kyrie Irving.

We need a RJ (no homo!)...

i would have loved to see NJ pick up Matt Barnes during the off season. Slasher, good rebounder/defender, and a decent 3 point shot. Could have started for NJ, instead decided to take a bench job with LA.

Devin Harris and Brook Lopez are our only source of offense, the rest can't make for themselves, they need to be spoonfed.

lets be fair...I'm not saying I want to see Morrow making plays off the dribble, but he has developed a nice floater-pull up off the drible...its not perfect, but he's getting there...Outlaw scares me more off the dribble, good as a cutter or catching a pass slashing to the basket...

but your definitely right as far as our limitations...we are who we are right now, that has a lot to do with our offense...

Yeah, it's developing, but you kind of just said it there. We don't want to see Morrow (or Trout) play off the dribble. The fact that our fanbase cringes whenever somebody besides Harris (and sometimes T-Will) bounces that ball even once, I think proves that we have nobody besides Harris and Lopez. (Even Lopez struggles to get others involved)

wait what ???

lopez getting others involved? if he gets doubled in the post, 1 of 3 things happen:

1. Ball is stolen
2. Slingshots the ball at the basket with a 50/50 chance of it going in blindly or Dribbles to the middle of the lane and THEN slingshots the ball
3. He Travels

if he catches it at 15-20 feet facing the basket, he's shooting it. Rarely does lopez ever bring the ball back out and never gets other people involved.

I blame Avery. Last year lopez passed out of the double team despite having zero shooters on the team. If he's not doing it now it's on the coach.

i wasn't a nets fan last year, so assuming what you are saying is true, I fully aggree :D haha

was he getting doubled as much last year as he is this year .... or have teams found his ultimate weakness?

if lopez learned how to keep the ball higher instead of dropping it down towards his knees/ankles every time, I think he'd be a lot more successful. that, and have kareem teach him the sky hook would make brook an instant hall of famer ;)

On another note, besides Lopez having a strange start to the season and this being Avery's offense...even setting aside our limitations, I'm still waiting for the Nets to collectively have a good offensive game...From starters to the role players, is it possible for everyone to show up on a given night...Clippers game was probably closest thing to it, but Devin got suspended in the first half....
I really believe this has a lot to do with our offensive production and it would be nice to see all 8-9 Nets show up on the offensive end in one game...Consistency is everything and we cant find that offensively...

Was it the 12 win season or the addition of Stephen Graham that made you switch over? :-?

So out of curiosity, who were you a fan of and why would you decide to be a Nets fan after a 12 win season???

haha ....

i'm actually a fan of the Farmstar himself ;) I went to high school with Jordy, and I enjoy keeping track of how he does professionally. same holds true as to why I am a NY Giants Fan -- Went to High School with Steve Smith :)

i am a die hard UCLA and LA Lakers Fan, but am now a NJ Nets fan as well :)
