Reports are that Melo is going to NJ for Troy Murphy, Derrick Favors, and 2 first-round picks.

If true, congrats - hopefully his convinced to stay for long-term.

As much as I rage because of how bad we are..I REALLY don't want to trade for Melo. Sure it adds a legit 1st option.. an all star that could be the face of the franchise.. but, we'll be a late playoff team at best. We won't beat Miami, Boston or the Magic, so why make a panic move and trade the youngest player in the NBA who just posted 10 and 13 off the bench.

As usual we're on the same page and I figure most of the rest of our long time and even newer posters will agree on this one.

I will reserve final judgment until next October, maybe even next trade deadline though.

Who knows, maybe we put together another huge trade and form a true Big 3 that is a legitimate contender?

I like Melo, I really do. Some people, especially posters on the trade board get the idea or vibe that I dislike him. This is not true. I'm just a realist. Melo is a legit star. He's a borderline superstar, but he is not one and his play has been wildly inconsistent over his career. His attitude is meh. He is a winner though for sure. The thing is, you don't overpay or even pay fair value for the first big piece when building a contender, you do it for the 3rd and final one. Obviously I'm not telling you, I'm just airing my frustrations again.

Can't say this won't be an interesting few months until the deadline though, can we? :)

Would be ridiculously impressive if you could land Melo, and then move more picks, cash, Harris, etc for Chris Paul and form your own "big three" with Melo, Paul, and Lopez.

RT @ESPN Sources: Denver Nuggets Trade Carmelo Anthony to the New England Patriots for Tom Brady and a 1st Round draft pick.

Lakers end up with Joe Smith. I thought he was out of the league long ago. Lakers give up a first rounder again. Why. Sasha is over paid and not a big loss. Just wish the guard that went to Houston came to LA.

I think the main point is that Melo most probably won't re-sign with new jersey. As a knick fan I hope he comes to us via free agency so we don't give up anything, but I'm pretty confident that they will trade him to a contender just to spite the knicks (eg. Dallas trades butler, chandler, beuabois, mulitple future picks), hoping that he will fall in love with his new team as they make a run for the title (ala Rasheed wallace with Detroit.) and then re-sign with that team in the offseason.

this is ridiculous all you guys saying you dont want melo. just watch him play, there isnt any swingman in the nba that goes harder to the hoop than melo. every time he gets down there he pushes people around and finishes through contact... hes also been one of the leagues best closers since he entered and people are calling his attitude lackadaisical? hes been in the playoffs every year hes been in the league and theres something to be said about that. i think the only other superstar in the league right now that can say that is lebron. melo has a winning attitude and that is highly contagious in an nba team.

not to mention the fact that just having him on the court makes morrow, outlaw, farmar, and lopez that much more dangerous since melo will be commanding the double teams and lopez especially will have much more room to work. morrow, outlaw, and farmar will be spotting up all day beyond the arc and have wide open shots.

there is not one negative thing that can come from trading for melo, even if it means giving up favors... who btw, sure, has the potential to be an amare type player, but also shows many signs of a stromile swift. melo is proven NOW, and is only 26... he still has 10 good years ahead of him

I have a feeling that myself, jeff and vc4p are gonna get into another good debate here. Jeff mentioned that we would be a playoff team that will be beaten by boston or miami. Which is correct, but dont you think its easier to make a team a contender when they are already a playoff team as opposed to a team that is struggling to get out of the basement of the eastern conference? When the Nets were a dominant team they didnt build their team through the draft and developing young players, they made a draft day trade for RJ and a few other pieces, and also traded for Kidd. The Kidd trade was the most important obviously. So now if the Nets can bring in Melo the team has a legitimate threat and a very good core to build around with Harris, Lopez and Melo (going off the original post, hopefully we can keep Harris). The glaring hole then would be PF which would need to be filled in the offseason or if this trade gets done quick enough before the February 24th deadline. And maybe for my birthday (which is the day of the deadline) the Nets can pull off an epic trade like they did for Kidd.

yeah but how are we certain he would resign? it would have to be a sign and trade or he would have to agree to sign an extension or something i doubt we'd give up favors unless there was a guarantee.

Its a given that he wont be traded unless he signs the extension first.
