Why?

Do you support this team? I'm a fan, but I don't even know why I am. I thought the Nets could be decent this year, not horrible like they are, but obviously not a good team. I figured T-Will would do well like he did the last month of the season last year. I thought we were going to end up with the #1 pick, but the NBA lottery is (Please Use More Appropriate Word). So...I ask you, why do you support this team?

This is a loaded question, but I understand the reason behind this thread.
I am not a fan of what's going on and honestly, with the disconnect with the current fanbase, I'm not sure how long I'll stick around if they change the name and the nomenclature of the identity...

I'm a fan because I believe in loyalty. It's pretty easy to jump on a teams bandwagon when they're good and jump off when they suck. It's much more rewarding this way. Though loyalty can only get you so far.. it's tough having to deal with an incompetent FO, Owner, Coach or "franchise player" for so long. I don't think I'll ever jump ship, but the Nets aren't making it easy.

I'm a fan at this point simply because they're New Jersey's team. When they move, and if they change their name, I'm not certain I'm going to stick around.

I'm a fan even if I'm miles away. Why? Because I want to prove that loyalty pays off (same as jeff1624)
If the time comes and we become legit contenders and earn the respect of other teams and the league in particular, I'll be proud to say I sticked it out with this team...

There's more to be had in the sports fan experience than simply revelling in success. The lower the low the higher the high. It's about the dynamics of human entertainment.

Same as Jersey Generals, because they represent the state I live in. They move to Brooklyn Im finding another team. It turns my stomach to think about it, but I might have to jump on the 76ers since Im already an avid Eagles fan. But Ill worry about that when the time comes.

I'm a Wolves fan since 1989 and enjoy this thread! We should have one of our own!! I agree with this statement. If you're a fan of basketball and have aligned yourself with a team, it says little of yourself if you jump ship when times are tough. There's always hope, there's always a chance.
It's hard to deal with ownership/FO that is simply terrible. It seems to me that the Nets are on the right track in that respect...
I wish you guys luck. Who knows? Maybe the 2013 NBA finals will feature the Wolves -vs- the Nets?

lol, this from a Knicks fan? You can thank Amare' for your high horse, otherwise you'd be in the same position you've been in as a fan since Ewing retired.

lol...wow. I dunno what to say..Enjoy your suspension I guess?
But yeah, I guess I agree with Jeff I think it's a loyalty thing. I really got into basketball right around the time Kidd joined the Nets because my uncle would watch them all the time and they were fun to watch...and I've never looked back since. As bad as the Nets are now I really haven't had any motivation at all to stop supporting them. The moving of the franchise and name change probably won't affect me at all either since I'm from Brooklyn myself...but I do prefer they keep the the Nets name!

I like going to the games with low expectations and just hounding all the bandwagon fans that show up for Heat, Celtics, Lakers, etc. They can't offend the Nets because I know they suck.

I have accepted the move to Brooklyn and maybe it came a little easier for me because it is physically so close to where I live and always loved Brooklyn.
What I will have a hard time accepting is a name change. I don't know if I'll be able to.
What I point blank will not accept is if they change the name to the New Yorkers.
I'm straight up gone if that happens. I will feel completely alienated.

I guess when it comes down to it, the NBA has taken a back seat to the NFL and MLB (personal opinion) for me this past decade. Moving from New Jersey to Texas, it was impossible to truly follow the team all this time. Even when times were tough for the Nets, there were never any constant reminders for me that they sucked so they kind of faded away.
I'm still a Nets fan for the fact I couldn't picture myself cheering for anyone else but my hometown team.
In two years I'll have to reassess the situation:
- Is our team sacrificing a great rebuilding project just for 1-2 players?
- Will my hometown ties still feel as strong when they change States and Team Name?
-and a great point by vincecarter4pres
- Could I honestly root for a team named the Brooklyn New Yorkers? Feels like a slap in the face to all the New Jersey residents who are/were upset with the move.
