o/t: places to live in/around union county?

Post#1 » by Pharmcat » Mon Jan 17, 2011 1:13 am

So a situation with a fam member has arisen, and need to find apt. housing in or around union county asap for them (details not relevant but easily deductible I suppose lol)

-price range: 1000 a month studio or 1 bedroom, willing to pay a bit extra, Ive done searching for hours today on apartmentratings.com and lots of places have bad ratings due to vandalism to car ( in north plainfield that I saw) or b/c apt building is too old and has lots of issues related to that
-fam member works in summit
-i saw this complex right of Route 22, Cypress Gardens (they have a few there), but they had terrible ratings online at said website and when there, they didnt even give a tour of the facility, took a $10 deposit and gave the key and were told to check it out ourselves
-obviously want off street parking so dont have to worry about that hassle

any recommendations of a apt???

thanks in advance

Your best bet is to look for a two family house rental in somewhere like Union, Springfield, Garwood, Cranford, or maybe Hillside.

I'd recommend Short Hills or Chatham, but you're not going to find anything there for a $1000. If you can't find anything in any of the places vc4pres mentioned, you might find something in Scotch Plains.

Scotch plains is half a hike from Summit though.

Oh yeah, you said it Rich, not finding a place in Short Hills or Chatam for less then $1200 in all likelihood and maybe as high as around $1500 or so.

I live in Scotch Plains. Well Fanwood, technically. Nice town, nothing too spectacular. There's a couple bars in the "downtown". But it's right down the road from Westfield, and you can find just about anything there. Also the Fanwood train station is right there, which takes you right to Newark for Nets games! Couldn't be any more convenient!!!

I'm surprised Pharmcat hasn't switched sides yet with the way they treat him on the Knix board.

Westfield is a pricey, upscale town, almost a little nose in the air, but they have some awesome restaurants in the center of town.

Yeah there's a little bit of that, but it's not too bad. As far as the restaurants go, I'd go to the city if I'm trying to spend a pretty penny on dinner.

Summit is 15 minutes minimum, 20 max. Easy to get there too.
